Coyote and her dad take us on a road trip full of ups, downs and a wonderful cast of characters. The sequel, Coyote Lost and Found, is wonderful, too.
In honor of Fathers' Day yesterday, let post books that feature dads. I'll start with this one about a girl and her dad traveling and grieving the loss of their family together. Has anyone read the recently released sequel yet?
All are welcome to play along!

This was recommended to me a few years ago, but I never got around to reading it. The sequel came out recently, and I finally decided to read this one and I absolutely loved it. All of the characters were great and the ending had me on an emotional roller coaster and I just loved it so much. I can‘t wait to read the next one.

(2024) Reread in anticipation of the second book coming out in early March. I have recommended this book endlessly the last few years and for good reason.
(2018) First read as ARC. Screams to the whole world to drop everything and read this book. Awards received throughout the following year.

This was the first book that came to mind when I saw this question. A beautiful story of a father & daughter traveling in a school bus. Their story, the stories of those they meet & the lessons learned are wonderfully written.

This is an excellent MG book of a father and daughter trying to outrun their sadness. They meet lots of fun characters along the way!
This book made me ugly cry right before work. It is such a beautiful look at found family, friendship, acceptance, and grief.
Just picked this up at the local public library. September is #librarycardsignupmonth #publiclibrary #inthishousewesupportlibraries
This is middle grade magic 🌟💫 A perfect, sweet, thoughtful, lovely look at found family and life and loss and grief and running from the things you don‘t want to face. It‘s not cheesy, it‘s not silly, it‘s just the absolute best kind of middle grade book. I loved it ❤️ (Thinking of using it as a read aloud or lit circle choice for my kiddos this year) #teachersoflitsy
“Sometimes making friends is tough, and sometimes it‘s as simple as finding someone who loves books and kittens as much as you do.” In my world, “kittens” needs to be replaced with “puppies,” but no truer statement has ever been said. Looking at you, @Allyneedsbooks 🤓🤩🤗❤️

Read both with my daughter. We really enjoyed Coyote Sunrise.
I really thought this was a great book. It reminds me of Kate DiCamillo.
My daughter is #fangirling over an author comment
Since her mom and siblings perished in a car accident 5 years ago, Coyote and her dad Rodeo have been crossing the country in an old school bus…

This RF novel follows the journey of a daughter and father who have an anything but ordinary relationship. Along their journey they meet several people, who all have an impact on Coyote. This novel is great as a LC book, following the objectives of http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/literature-circle....
“The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise” by Dan Gemeinhart
Sunshine State Young Readers Award
Coyote and her free spirit of a father Rodeo journey across the country in their school bus home. Their journey is not only a physical one, but also an emotional roller coaster navigating loss, family, and relationships of the additional chosen family in the characters introduced to the traveling crew.

Couldn‘t ask for a better setting to read on this crisp February afternoon. Go Knights!
Times are wild, today. The news is a pit of despair. And the chaos seems neverending. Please remember to turn it off at some point, and curl up with a drink of choice and a good book. Tonight, I'm steeping lemon ginger tea and reading a heartwarming number (tagged) that gives me good feels.
Be safe all.
I read much more in December than I expected, and it actually included more print than audio. It was an interesting mix of books, but I especially enjoyed some holiday listens, some Jane Austen related books, and several middle grade reads.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of Coyote and Rodeo‘s road trip lifestyle. It is very much a story of grief, good and bad ways to deal with it, and family. The characters in this story were also wonderful, including the cat and the goat.
This is also the reason I don‘t post book stats until the last few days of the year. Yesterday, on December 30, I finished one of my favorite #MiddleGrade reads of the year.

Last one (although I could happily go on) of 2020 favourites!
I‘m pretty happy to have discovered so many new authors - although for someone who is series shy... I seem to have committed to more than a few 🤪 oops
One recommended to me by my librarian friend ❤️ cute sweet read. Very easy to keep up with. I loved the free spirit of coyote and her journey to reconnect with her past. I love how it shares her heart for others. Definitely recommend for older middle school children because of some deeper subject matter.
Author : Dan Gemeinhart
Genre: Realistic Fiction
The remarkable journey of Coyote Sunrise was a tear-jerker if there ever was one. This book takes you on a roller coaster ride and you never want to get off. This Realistic Fiction (RF) if just perfect for Independent reading (IR), students will quickly be hooked and won't be able to put the book down. There is a lot of talk about crossing the US map and going from one state to another it would be
Another tear induced read. The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart is a RF novel about a girl who is trying to find her herself after loss. Coyote and her father live in a world of “once-upon-a-times“ and adventure, but it is not all that it seems. They are escaping a tragedy and loss like no other. They make friends along their journey that bring out the best traits in each character. #UCFLAE3414SU20
Tears... so many tears!!! This RF novel by Dan Gemeinhart is guaranteed to make you call your entire family and tell them how much you love them. This story revolves around the life of a young girl and her father, who have been traveling for 5 years in their mobile home. Where are they traveling to? There is no destination... This book makes for the perfect LC because students can share this book using various roles! #ucflae3414su20
This book is just as the title says it is, remarkable! The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise a RF novel by Dan Gemeinhart, is a heartwarming story about a 12-year-old girl (who goes by Coyote), her father (who she calls Rodeo) and their journey in the big yellow bus. The book takes place 5 years after Coyote‘s mother passed away and goes into detail of their journey all across the states and back to where they once called home. #ucflae3414su20
*The remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise* By Dan Gemeinhart. This MF book is one of this year‘s Newbery Award winner! This is a great LC book to engage students in thoughtful discussions about the events taking place. The story is about a young girl named Coyote who lives on a bus with her father. She gets some news that changes everything, and is determined to head back home. To find out how her journey ends, you‘re going to have to read it!
Book 82
I listened to this juvenile fiction story about a 13 yo girl, Coyote, and her dad driving around the country in a school bus, evading the heartache caused by the death of the rest of their family. The main conflict requires the suspension of an inordinate amount of disbelief. I take the fact that I wanted to yell all the easier ways to a resolution a good sign that I was invested in the dynamic characters. A great book for a family.
Five years.
That's how long Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, have lived on the road in an old school bus, criss-crossing the nation.
It's also how long ago Coyote lost her mom and two sisters in a car crash.

Oh my! Through many tears, I finally finished this lovely book. It is going to be a choice for literature circles this summer. Hopeful, heart wrenching, adventurous...and so much more! “I held that - and every the end and every once upon a time...”❤️📚#ucflae3414su20 #ssyra20-21
I‘m not crying, you are.
I‘m not sure what it is about stories about brave girls on buses determined to get the answers they need to flourish but they‘re so good! I stan! This is only the second book I‘ve read that fits that category but - hopefully not the last.
I was holding onto this book for a friend - but it beckoned to me tonight and I‘m so glad it did. A beautiful, heartfelt book.
“I haven‘t read that one.”
“Well, then, you‘re gonna. Nonnegotiable. I‘ve got the book, I‘ve got a reading light... you can start tonight.”
AMAZING... sweet, sassy, sad, break your heart and mend it up again book. Seriously..i ugly cried.
I read 43 books in 2019! A few chapter books with my 7 year old and I tagged my favorite of the year. Happy reading to y‘all in 2020!
Amazing story . Probably my favorite middle grade book I read in 2019. I HIGHLY recommend 💙Last read of 2019!
This is a perfect book. It has everything: heart, smarts, and adventure! Everything came together, but in surprising ways that I did not see coming. Every character was unique and added a layer to an already interesting story, making it that much better. I loved the capacity for love, kindness, and overall goodness the story share in the wake of tragedy, but more importantly: in mundane every day moments. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Next up! A friend told me this was her favorite book of the year, so I have to give it a try!
I‘m getting caught up on like a week‘s worth of posts, as I‘ve gotten a little behind... please, bear with me

My copy of Coyote Sunrise made its way back to me - thanks Adina! I‘ve been enjoying reading everyone‘s comments!
I didn‘t get a picture of this one before I sent it off yesterday, but it‘s finally in its way back to you, @Johanna414 Great #lmpbc pick! This was really emotional! I had to read it much slower than my normal pace just to process the feelings it stirred up. I won‘t say everything about this worked for me, but I LOVED Coyote‘s voice! And any book that can make you cry more than once or twice has something special going for it!
