I was a long time away from Litsy because the app stopped working on my phone. I hope it will work on my new phone now.
pick4.2⭐️ I‘m not really into Syfy, but this was fun. Sure there was some pointless murders and tons betrayal, but it was still fun.
This is on my TBR for the month… but the #stars were perfect for #LuckyInLove tag for today
pickIt‘s been a while since I‘ve devoured a book like this. Absolutely loved it, excited to see there is a film in the works…. Great blend of science, politics, and the messiness of relationships, ordered the other 2 books in the trilogy before I was 2/3 off the way through as I knew I would be desperate to continue the story!

so-soThe format of this book made it hard to be emotionally attached to characters. They felt individuals but I think like something was lacking at the same time.
The beginning was interesting & mysterious but at some point I got tired with this format - I had thought that only the beginning would have report format.
This was surprisingly intriguing to read but the last quarter lost me. Ending was awesome!

pickEnjoyed this reread, as ever. I was so confused recently by reading a review where someone said the anonymous interviewer is a cookie cutter bad guy. He's not a good guy... but bad guy isn't quite right, either. He's nothing so simple.

Rereading (again) with the hope of finally finishing the trilogy this time! I can never read this without thinking of the interviewer as Agent Coulson from Avengers.
The Themis Files trilogy is accessible science fiction told in a sort of epistolary format.
Very close runner up #letterT is The Time in Between by Maria Duenas.

pickOkay, it was touch and go there for a while, but that was brilliantly wrapped up. Intense! I guess this is where individual definitions of what constitutes robot books comes in. There is a device that is consistently referred to as a robot but needs humans to operate and this story was all about scientific discovery, politics and interpersonal relationships. Which are all things that can be in robot books, but usually the robot is not just a prop.

My first Re-listen of the year…and I‘ve decided to tackle The Themis Files. While the book is not without its flaws, I still honestly loved it anyway. Character development may have suffered because of its unique format but it sure doesn't lack in sarcasm or intensity.
pickI really enjoyed the first book, the story was really original. The second book not so much. I won‘t bother with the third.
It was my pick for my bookclub. We have never had a science fiction book before. They all hated it! 🤷♀️
Onto the next. I am so intrigued by the case file style of this book and it including interviews as it‘s method of story telling. Fox (Mulder) seems excited with the paranormal/extraterrestrial vibe to the synopsis.

pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Engaging and inventive, but I felt like I didn‘t know any of the characters—also not sure the interview format really works for this story. I felt removed and distant from the events, which is not something I like in my sci-fi. I‘m not sure if I‘ll continue the series yet.
pickLots of fun! A strong, tightly paced sci-fi thriller. Very high concept & cinematic. Looking forward to the sequels & to answers to such questions as: who is the mysterious narrator/interviewer? who is the mysterious stranger that contacts the interviewer & how do they know what they know? And other stuff I won't spoil here.
My unofficial reading theme for September is BIG science fiction (space opera, big ideas) & this kicked things off nicely.

Book 1 of 3. LOVED it, but everyone seems to agree the last book is terrible....do I skip the rest of the series never knowing how it ends, or keep reading & risk disappointment?! 🤔

pickThis was great! Def out of my usual go to genre but it was written so well! I also enjoyed the interview/journal format it was written in. The ending was 😲. Now to decide if Im going to read the rest of the series.

so-soI really enjoyed the interview format of the book but did not enjoy where the story went in the last quarter or so. I‘m not a huge fan of sci-fi but isn‘t wasn‘t so far off that I couldn‘t follow it. I loved the unidentifiable narrator and his snarky attitude. This is the first of the trilogy, and I‘m glad I read it. I don‘t think I‘ll be reading the remaining 2 because the storyline just really wasn‘t for me. It‘s a fast read #litsyatoz for N

Best way I can think to describe this trilogy is pieces of a giant alien automaton are found buried on Earth and what happens when humans try to use them. Told in a World War Z style format. Really interesting story telling
so-soWow this book was a test. On the one hand I love the concept. Ancient alien tech that we have finally evolved far enough to sort of understand and stumble around with. But the format just killed me. I was reading this as an e-book and what worked really well in the Illuminea files, did not work for me here. Half the time I had to work out who was talking and I took ages to read this. Think I will try the audio book for the rest. 3/5 Stars
pickI saw this book featured in a list of great audio books and I would have to agree. It is a series of interviews, transcripts and articles read/performed by a talented cast of narrators. A giant metal hand is unearthed and solving the mystery of the artefact becomes a global puzzle. This is part 1 of a trilogy and I have to keep reading! 😊 🌟🌟🌟🌟
pickI‘m not usually a fan of this genre but was pleasantly surprised! A well told story with elements of mystery, history, science, romance, politics and relationships. All great ingredients for a story. I listened to it on audio and highly rate the quality of the narrators, I specifically liked the characters of Kara and the unknown narrator. I will definitely be tuning into the sequel.

pickI chose this book barely for a challenge. The synopsis didn't sound that interestung to me. But WOW this book was a big surprise, a really BIG surprise.
I'm still impressed how Neuvel manages to put so much soul into his characters, even though you only meet them via documents. How great is that?! Other authors can't get their characters right with a normal writing style... 😅
This is the pick for this month‘s postponed sci-fi and fantasy book club. It‘s great so far and I‘m sad I won‘t get to discuss it for awhile but happy to do what needs to be done to get the craziness under control!
