A Drop of Corruption
A Drop of Corruption: the gripping sequel to The Tainted Cup | Robert Jackson Bennett
6 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
The brilliant detective Ana Dolabra may have finally met her match in the gripping sequel to The Tainted Cup - from the bestselling author of The Founders Trilogy. An impossible crime has occurred. A Treasury officer has disappeared into thin air - abducted from his quarters in a building whose entrances and exits are all sealed. The brilliant and mercurial investigator, Ana Dolabra, and her assistant Dinios Kol have been called in to crack the case. Before long, Ana discovers that they're actually investigating a murder. Worse, the adversary seems to be able to pass through warded doors like a ghost, and can predict every one of Ana's moves as though they can see the future. Ana's solved impossible cases before. But has Ana finally met an enemy she can't defeat?

Ana and Din are in Yarrowdale to investigate the disappearance of a treasury officer. What seems to be a locked room mystery that might be solved relatively easily, given Ana's skills, turns into more victims and a case of political intrigue.

The world-building continues to be good. Yarrowdale is not part of the Empire, but the Treasury officers working there are, which is why Din and Ana had to be called in. This means that there are some ⬇️

julesG issues of jurisdiction that might complicate the investigation. Furthermore, we get to see a different part of the fantastic world; different people, different languages, and different socio-economic and political problems.

I liked this sequel to The Tainted Cup, although I could see some of the twists long before they happened. Maybe I am too much of an armchair detective.

Sitting outside her feline highness #GhostCat sits on my leg. I only have my phone, but it has a few books on it. It's just that I don't like reading on my phone. 🤦🏻‍♀️ First world problems.

Exciting times! Just got approved for this on Netgalley. It's probably not my next up, because I have some other eARCs I want to get to soon, but I hope to read it before too long.

Clare-Dragonfly I recently heard The Tainted Cup described as “Sherlock Holmes in a fantasy world” and thought not only did I want to read it, but it sounded like a book you would really be into. Seems I was right 😆 2mo
shanaqui @Clare-Dragonfly It's really good! And that is an apt description. 2mo

This is a fun fantasy mystery series. This is book 2. I would recommend starting with the first book.

A thrilling, fantastic, amazing continuation from the first book, with an even higher stakes case to be solved with an enemy smarter than even the illustrious Ana. the dangers are intense, the suspects are ever growing, and the body count is getting higher. I am already desperate for the next book, and this will absolutely be on my re-reads list!
