I was surprised with this book. I was reading along a nice little romance waiting for the inevitable problem them bam. The little problem was a HUGE problem and changed the entire premise. I liked it. It was unexpectedly emotional. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good. Nice romantic story. Even though by the end I was left with more questions than answers as the main reason for the story was never revealed to you and another storyline was introduced half way and never got resolved, it was still enjoyable.

I had one 5⭐️ for Feb ‘24 and a bunch of really good 4.5s rounded up.
My 5⭐️ was a first for me from Rebecca Serle but definitely won‘t be my last.

I don't know how to start this review.
I picked up the book because 1) it was all over the place and 2) once I looked at it, the premise sounded interesting but this one wasn't for me.
The FMC came across as flat, a bit one dimensional as the book in her POV talks about her outfits, her apartment, these pieces of paper, and high scale restaurants and bars in L.A., which I didn't care.
A booktok raved book has failed me again.
My life has been filled with magical moments, I was just so busy waiting I didn‘t see them when they were here 💫
Protection and love are not the same thing. Love says, I will try and I will fail. Love says, Despite. Love says, And yet and yet and yet ♥️

Finished last week & gets a soft pick from me, I liked it well enough, but didn‘t love it. This is the first book from this author I‘ve read & I liked her use of magical realism & the idea that the MC bases her relationships on the slips of #Paper with “expiration dates” that magically appear when she meets them. (fits for yesterday‘s #SchoolSpirit prompt) It had the easy predictability of a rom-com but went a little deeper.
A little later in the week than my usual Hilo visit but I get the added “fun” of being filmed for our company monthly update.🫣
Fueling up & trying to cram this one in as it goes back to the library today.
Daphne gets a note with a name and number of days on it - it is how long that relationship will last. Then she gets a note with Jake and no days - is he her long term love? We learn about Daphne, her bff Hugo, her work mates, and family along with past dates as her relationship with Jake progresses. ⬇️

Scored 70% on this one 🎉
My three:
1. The shark (Jaws)
2. Mrs. Danvers (Rebecca)
3. Nurse Ratched (One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest)
Make a great day everyone 🦈
I think I liked it - the premise was interesting, but felt undeveloped. The story had emotional pull, but the conclusion of the book was weird. Magical realism was very down to earth, but reasoning was vague.
This is a short, sweet story about a dating woman who comes across papers that tells her how long they‘ll date. I liked how she is 30 years old, as it brings a different perspective on dating than I‘m used to reading. Especially with her experiences. The prospect is very well written between her past relationships and how nonchalant she felt with those versus present time relationship. Which is where the ending fell through for me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Loved all the magical realism and romance this book offered💖
Oh I loved this! Very fun plot and writing that made it hard to put down. I can‘t imagine trying to live a normal life having the knowledge Daphne gets with each relationship. I was rooting for the ending.
Book #53 in 2024

Went with real titles from my “no expiration date“ TBR:
Man or Mango (Ellman)
Still Life with Bread Crumbs (Quindlen)
Make a great day everyone 🙂
"Real love, the kind that makes you want to grow old together, makes you not just unafraid of all that time with one person but electrified by it."
Expiration dates was an unexpected delight for me. I really loved the different things (fate vs choice) that is brought up for discussion, especially at the end. It never once occurred to me that the thing that happened at the end would have been done, but it does make sense and I'm glad it happened because Daphne needed the wake up call. I loved how it ended and it was the warm fuzzy book I needed to read right now.
Really liked this story about Daphne who gets a note about how long the relationship will last, every time she meets someone new. She‘s so real, never a false note in her conversations with guys, friends, her family. In fact, a conversation she has with her dad near the end of the book made me cry. It‘s a book about the power of love and friendship and living the one life you‘ve been given.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I picked this book up on a whim last time I was at the library. Thought the cover was eye catching and the blurb, in turn, sounded cute. Never had read or heard of the author before, but decided to give her a go. So glad I went with first impressions because this book was amazing! With the exception of a quick pause to run to Starbucks with the youngest for a weekend treat, this was a read it one go book. So good I could hardly put it down.
Loved this one! Serle is an auto-buy author for me and she hasn‘t disappointed me yet!

It‘s overcast and chilly here, which is all the excuse I need to stay inside and start this one.
First Rebecca Serle and I loved it! This was a very unique concept for a story and it was executed so well.
Loved that I did not see the twist in the story coming at all, and the ending was perfect.
Can‘t wait to read her backlist!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
New audiobook…I‘ve seen so many mixed reviews about this that I‘ve been looking forward to reading it to see how I feel about it.
Y‘all my heart is RACING! 😱😱😭😭😭😍😍😍
I just flew through this in one sitting and I am floored. The TWISTY genius of Rebecca Serle. For such a fantastical premise, this story still felt so grounded and relatable and real. I cried and laughed and cheered alongside these beautiful characters. Clearly I need to read more from her. I will be thinking about this for a LONG time!
4.25⭐
While I wasn‘t always a fan of the constant timeline switches…I still found this to be another solid heartfelt contemporary romance from this author. I like how this author writes a story…she doesn‘t add extraneous unnecessary details and makes magical realism fun and oddly believable. The narration by Julia Whelan was fantastic.
Being single is like playing the lottery. Most of the time all you‘re left with from that trip to the convenience store is a bag of chips and a six-pack. But then there‘s always the chance. There‘s always the chance, however slim, that with one piece of paper you could win it all.

From the New York Times bestselling author of In Five Years and One Italian Summer comes a love story that will define a generation. Being single is like playing the lottery. There‘s always the chance that with one piece of paper you could win it all.

If this were the first Rebecca Serle book I‘d read I‘d say it was wonderful. I love the magical realism in her books, and this is a good one to pull you out of a slump. However I read One Italian Summer first and I loved it so much that this book paled a bit in comparison. While I would read them both again, if you haven‘t read any of her books I adored One Italian Summer.
Daphne‘s love life is complicated…each time she begins a romantic relationship, she receives a note with a number of how long the coupling will last. She chooses and evaluates her boyfriends based on this. It‘s all tied up with a secret only she, her parents and a couple friends know…

#botm and #aardvarkbookclub both dropped their books today. I picked four total. Dragonfruit wasn't on my radar at all, but loved the cover and book description. So I ended up with two romances and two young adult books
I feel like Serle kinda moved the goalposts halfway through the book? I definitely didn‘t like the ending at all but there was enough in the rest of the book, even with the game-changing “reveal” that this was a nice book to spend a few hours with.
This was a cute story that did dive deeper, which was great. But I didn't feel as much magic in the notes, which made me wonder when the explanation would come. It was still a pick, but I feel something is missing.
Rebecca Serle is an author that when a new book is coming out I don‘t even have to know what it‘s about, I just know I‘m going to read it. This is another amazing novel from her. This book had me feeling a range of emotions and I couldn‘t get enough. This was a definite five star read for me.
I loved this. A rom-com with some magical realism but Serle does an excellent job of weaving a fun, layered and touching story.
Oh, this is a good one. It starts out and carries on as a fun romcom with a touch of magical realism that fits the story so seamlessly it‘s like yes, of course, some people just receive notice of how long a relationship will last. But this is Rebecca Serle and her stories have delicious layers making this so much more than a romcom.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐Another easily accessible, thought-provoking read from Rebecca Serle that asks us what we would do if our future was decided for us, and then what would we do if that changed.
Since her debut novel, I‘ve been a fan of Serle‘s writing and the almost no-nonsense magic that she brings about within her stories. Here Daphne always receives a piece of paper of some kind with the name of the person and the duration of their relationship. The book opens with the first paper that doesn‘t have the time limit. In this quick, emotional and unexpected read, I really enjoyed it and can‘t wait to see what Serle writes next!
My first Serle book, it definitely won‘t be my last. It‘s a bit romantic comedy, friend fest, introspective deep dive, all tied up with a paranormal twist…wow, never thought I‘d put those descriptives together.
Daphne Bell, for over 20 years, has been living her romantic life through a series of slips of paper that mysteriously come her way. With each slip comes a first name and a timeframe…the exact period of time they will be together. As 🔻
#FirstLineFridays @ShyBookOwl
The paper is blank save for the name: Jake.
This one had me weeping at the end. What if you knew exactly how long each relationship in your life would last (2 years, 3 months or maybe just 7 months)? Daphne finds random notes that give her these details but should she trust them or just fall in love and trust the universe? Such a fascinating premise that kept me gasping for breath!

Perks of working at a bookstore you get gems like this before they release. This author is always a go to for me when I want a sweet read with all the feels. This is one of the highly anticipated first of the year releases for a reason. Keep your eye out for it.
