In addition to the physical history, Roland also discusses how notebooks were used throughout history - in accounting, art, natural history, writing, etc. and various ways notebooks were perceived. I.e., in the 1200s when clergy refused to use anything other than parchment being suspicious of paper's novelty and its infidel and recycled origins: “one opponent fulminated against the idea that the word of God could be written on menses-stained rag.“
#ReadAway2024
Finished last week & gets a soft pick from me, I liked it well enough, but didn‘t love it. This is the first book from this author I‘ve read & I liked her use of magical realism & the idea that the MC bases her relationships on the slips of #Paper with “expiration dates” that magically appear when she meets them. (fits for yesterday‘s #SchoolSpirit prompt) It had the easy predictability of a rom-com but went a little deeper.
#SchoolSpirit Day 28: This Cut #Paper Book Aladdin is hands-down stunning. The primary focus, here, I believe, is making the story come alive through the shadowy edges, the fine lines, and the intricate lace-like edges that are enough to make any bibliophile sigh in delight – and for that, I commend Agnese Baruzzi‘s vision.
