How to Read a Tree
How to Read a Tree: Clues and Patterns from Roots to Leaves | Tristan Gooley
8 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 7 to read
Each tree we meet is filled with signs that reveal secrets about the life of that tree and the landscape we stand in. The clues are easy to spot when you know what to look for, but remain invisible to most people. In How to Read a Tree, you'll discover the simple principles that explain the shapes and patterns you can see in trees and what they mean. And you'll learn rare skills that can be applied every time you pass a tree, whether you are in a town or a wilder spot. As the author of the international bestsellers The Walker's Guide and How to Read Water, Tristan Gooley knows how to uncover the phenomena worth looking for. He has been instructing people in the art of reading trees for two decades and this book includes signs that will not be found in any other book in the world. Once you have learned to see these things it is impossible to unsee them. We will never look at a tree the same way again.

What happened to September? TBH, I'm still reading The planet in a pebble, which is fascinating.

bookwyrm7 I'm enjoying "How to read a tree" so much on my Kindle that I've ordered a physical copy of the book as well (along with the book for November, which seems just as wonderful). This is the kind of book that I like to underline, write on and mark passages so I can access the information quickly. 1mo

Tristan Gooley, yet again, deftly gives us a knowledgeable & enjoyable book, demonstrating his expertise, this time with trees. He skillfully draws your attention to the minutiae of a tree's shape, health & development, enabling the reader to absorb information to put into practice in the field. It certainly makes you pay attention, looking more carefully at what is growing around you.

chatty, friendly manner. It offers the reader insight as to what it would be like to take a stroll with him through England's fields. Highly recommended.
