“All this time, I thought, I may just be able to do this! I may just have a writer's soul after all! But what am I, really? Just a girl, sitting in a coffee shop, who's completely deluded herself.”
“All this time, I thought, I may just be able to do this! I may just have a writer's soul after all! But what am I, really? Just a girl, sitting in a coffee shop, who's completely deluded herself.”
Who doesn‘t love a quirky romance filled with literary talk?! An inspiring novelist, a new boss, and a ghost editor all combine for a delightful read. Note: I use the term ghost editor much like that of a ghost writer; there are no ghosts in this story.
This was light, adorable, clever, and funny! Cute rom-com!
Cute story! Not a ton of substance but I found myself footing for the characters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Savannah is an assistant publishing editor, and accidentally drops her own manuscript that she's been writing. The new boss picks it up, which wouldn't be so bad except that the publising house only publishes nonfiction and she's writing a romance novel. She hides the manuscript in a secret room hidden behind a filing cabinet, but discovers that someone else knows about the room and starts editing her manuscript and leaving notes in the margins.
This was cute but didn't quite live up to its potential. Savannah and Will are both good characters and so are Lila and Sam, minor as they both were, but Savannah's family were a nightmare. I mostly enjoyed this but probably won't remember it in 6 months. Spoilers below.
Cuteee! I really liked how *not* complicated this book was. There was no unnecessary drama, & the focus was 100% on the problem & the romance🥳 it did get a little wordy at times, but I liked the author‘s eloquence overall! 💜✨ (also the epilogue had me 🥰)
3.25⭐ This was an enjoyable book to listen to while completing chores and crafting. The characters were likeable enough to cheer for them, and the premise of falling in love through the editing process was clever--though, as an editor, I know I'm biased. It probably isn't for everyone, but it was a fun listen.
This was my #BookSpin #BookSpinBingo choice for February.

This came to me from @BennettBookworm on her #AuldLangSpine list. I‘m glad she included it since moved it up my TBR list. A book about book people & romance. It also checked off prompts for #ISpyBingo and #2023ReadySetRead.

Couldn‘t put it down!
Savannah works for the slowly failing Pennington Publishing house that produces only the highest of literature and non-fiction. The owner‘s son William come in to try to save it among firings and cutbacks. Meanwhile Savannah is trying to get her romance novel published by another company and is getting help from a mysterious editor at Pennington whom she starts falling for.

I read 13 books in February and 3 were 5⭐️ picks for me.
I adored this one. Great characters, sweet story. Just all-around wonderful. 💙
Honorable Mention: One Night on the Island, Josie Silver

I enjoyed this book but I had hoped for a bit more. Delightful premise but let me down a bit in the execution. Loved the setting in Nashville and the publishing world. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
The premise seemed super cute. Sadly, I had to DFN‘d it ~40%
I found it ironic that when she starts reading the mystery editor's notes in the margins, the editor notes read: “Slow beginning. Get to the meat. Give the readers a reason to stay. If you bore them, you lose them.”
Hmmm . . . yes, that pretty much sums up my feelings: Slow. Dragged. Bored. And, annoyed. The MC really needs an intervention & some cord cutting, not a relationship.
A soft pick, this one was fun but not particularly memorable. The MC works for a small publisher that focuses on serious, educational books, but is secretly writing a romance novel that she wants published. Through a series of events, someone else finds her manuscript and starts leaving editorial notes that actually are helpful, and soon she is working with her mystery editor. It's a romcom, so it's pretty obvious who the mystery editor is. I was⬇
I patiently awaited my turn for this bookish rom-com. . . . Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#meet-me-in-the-margins
So instead of some checkmarks, I just thought I would post a pic of the pile of books read this week for my #BookReport 😂 I finished the Lunar Chronicles, including the two graphic novels and all the short stories in Stars Above - absolutely LOVED this series!! The Nora Roberts book included two novels she wrote in the early 80s that were pretty lame but checked off two years for #19822022 so there's that LOL The tagged book was fun but ⬇
This book is delightful and full of quotes like these. I‘ve thought this so many times when reading novels! 😄
I need a fun, light listen to offset the Hungarian revolution, 1960s Congo and the murder of the General Secretary of the UN, and a graphic novel on tyranny. I do this to myself. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
This listen is fun and not at all serious! ❤️
So if you dated someone for 8 years, broke up, and he was engaged to your younger sister within 3 months, and your parents told you to be supportive, you‘d be living our heroines life. The publisher she works for doesn‘t do “genre” and she wants to write romance novels. She‘s also kind of jaded about relationships right now. Predictable, but also sweet, fun, and hopeful. Enjoyable, lighthearted read overall with some self discovery and growth.
Borderline pan for me, but I know this will appeal to some readers so going to leave it as a so-so. The premise was cute (romance develops through editing notes in the margins of a manuscript) , but the execution just wasn‘t fully there. I don‘t believe the MC‘s age is ever given, but she seemed immature and unprofessional given her work position and life situation. The slow burn romance is not effective enough to make the ending satisfying.
Some fun for tonight:book editor for small niche publishing house, wannabe Romance author, interacts through notations “between the margins”of her manuscript, with a mysterious, shadowy, editor. Delightful with comical moments so far.
Really loved this one! The humor, the secrets, the meet cute, are so adorable! Very wholesome, and love the flourishing feelings
#romance
I can‘t resist a book about books even though I‘m not going to love every story I get my hands on. This HEA ending was obvious up front but still fun to read the story unfold. One issue for me though was inconsequential filler characters superfluous to the story. ↓
I LOVED this. Start to finish, didn‘t want to put it down. All the warm fuzzy feelings alongside substance and originality. Lovable and believable characters. I also think the author had such clever ways of breaking the fourth wall! It‘s something I‘ve seen other authors try but she actually succeeded 😍
Cute closed door rom-com. You've Got Mail (One of my favorite movies) meets Attachments (Rainbow Rowell, one of my favorite authors) so this one was a sure bet, a great palate cleanser among heavier reading. Bonus points for having a book on the cover An Expand Your Horizons task ❣️
This isn't a revolutionary story - nothing ultra-special happens, but it's cute, delightful, romantic. Just Savannah seems like a doormat... Nevertheless the book is enjoyable well enough.
Finished this lovely book this weekend. It‘s a great story about an aspiring romance writer who edits for a strictly non-fiction small publishing house. The romance is light, but believable. My favorite part is the hidden room with all the bookshelves. I would love something like that!
I was sucked into this book. None of the things I needed to get done today were done. I lost track of time while reading. I had to keep reading to find out what happened next. I became emotionally invested in these characters. I don't know when it happened because when I started the book, I wasn't too sure about them. I didn't quite believe that they would work together. But, by the end, I was desperate to see them finally figure everything out.
I love romcoms. And Melissa Ferguson proves once again that she is a queen in this genre with her newest book. The author skillfully combines delightful banter and sweet enchanting romance through the written word with the chaotic, almost circus-like comic daily happenings at a small publishing company. It‘s truly a perfect romcom to curl up with on a cold, lazy Saturday morning.
I received the book from the publisher and opinions are my own.
In not-knowing land, there was still hope. There was still a chance that things would work out for me. In knowing land though -- if I step into the Land of the Know -- I'm going to know without question. And if the answer isn't what I want, I can't strap hope back onto my back for safe keeping. No, hope is for those who stay in the Land of the Not-Know.
This was the perfect light read I needed in between serious books. I was rooting for the main character right from the start, and she did not disappoint. This book just had so much I really like reading about: books; writing; and romance without too much drama manufactured for it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you for the e-arc, Netgalley and Thomas Nelson -- FICTION!
1. Candy (chocolate please 😂) or books
2. Tagged. But I just finished One Night on the Island, and I have to agree with @Andrew65 …it‘s a great one too! ❤️
Thanks for the tag, Andrew! 🤗

I. Adored. This. Book. Oh my goodness, I smiled through all 300+ pages and was sad to have it end. Savannah works for a small publishing house (which is literally located in an old Victorian house) in Nashville and dreams of having her romance novel published. Will is the new VP of her division (from NYC) and happens to be the son of the CEO (who is dead set against mainstream titles, especially romance). The premise here involves a secret room,🔻
4/5
This was a cute, very slow burn romance. Savannah is an editor at a publishing house that absolutely does not deal with commercial fiction, so when her brand new publisher, William Pennington, sees the first page of her secret romance manuscript she's certain she's about to be fired. Instead she finds a secret editor at the company who helps her polish her manuscript in secret all while the two get closer together over their notes.
