Meh. I was hoping for more functional advice for the average Joe from his Navy Seal days. Mostly, it was a short book on some of his Navy Seal training.

This is a re-read for me. I feel like life has made me into a sugar cookie a lot lately (he‘s referring to unpleasant failure) and I could use some motivation on how to move forward. Enjoying this the second time around too.

This book is quite short. I read a chapter a night to better absorb the snippets of advice, but I must admit the “life isn‘t fair” chapter irked me a bit and dimmed my enthusiasm for the rest of the book. Still, a mild pick. I was also disappointed the cat was absent from the zoom book club meeting this month.

I meant to finish this Friday, but the evening got away from me. So I left it until Saturday and let it be book 1 for #JoysofJune

Fantastic short, quick read from Admiral McRaven and the speech he gave in 2014 to a college graduating class. Ten great anecdotes with lessons at the end that are inspiring, motivating and to the point. Everyone should read this book. #litsyAtoZ challenge for “M“. @bookishmarginalia

A great read for anyone wanting some practical easy to implement steps they can start taking to help you feel a sense of accomplishment in every day. It's true how something as simple as making your bed everyday can be a satisfying way to not only start each day but how returning to a made bed at the end of even our worst days can take some of the edge of how bad our day feels. An inspiring read. ⭐⭐⭐ #makeyourbed #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads

Brilliant motivational work, I was brought to tears at the end of it. Simple but such meaningful and impactful life lessons that is narrated from such an interesting perspective. The impact of this book is probably even more heightened when read during a global pandemic. Absolutely loved it. One to remember.

"Courage is a remarkable quality. Nothing and nobody can stand in your way. Without it, others will define your path forward. Without it, you are at the mercy of life's temptations. Without courage, men will be ruled by tyrants and despots. Without courage, no great society will flourish. Without courage, the bullies of the world rise up. With it, you can accomplish any goal. With it, you can defy and defeat evil."

"It matters not your gender, your ethnic or religious background, your orientation or your social status. Our struggles in this world are similar, and the lessons to overcome those struggles and to move forward changing ourselves and changing the world around us will apply equally to all." I just listened to a speech he gave... very inspiring and motivating...

It‘s not life altering revelations but reminders of little things to remind yourself during the day of how to be better with little things which will put you in a position for bigger things. Easy and quick read.

The author here draws on his time as a Navy SEAL, particularly the lessons he learned in his training. Most of the lessons are things we should all already know. I liked the look into some of the SEAL training techniques, which I knew were tough, but I don‘t know how taxing it really was. Also, despite his obvious success in one of the most challenging branches of the US military, his humility and kindness still comes through in the text. 3⭐️

As an motivational read, this was quite good other than the recap for the last twenty-four minutes. I also personally could have done without the sharky bits which, more than any other part of the book made me doubt the Author‘s sanity (and believe me that‘s saying something).

This is a basic halftime coach‘s pep-talk, but military style. And “make your bed” is basically starting your day with any task you can successfully accomplish. This sets you up for a series of successes throughout your day. Got that? No need to read the book. I just gave you an hour of your life back.

I can see how some people would find this approach inspiring, and hey - each to their own. For me this felt narrow and dismissive. I don't understand the military culture and approach - I know people say it builds discipline and weeds out those not cut out for service, but just because something's always been done a certain way doesn't mean it's the right or best way. On the whole, not for me.

It was okay... admirable stories and inspirational, but a little simple. I can see how it was a good commencement speech.

So glad I stumbled upon this book. A very short, but powerful read. A Retired Navy Seal shares his insights of everyday life lessons he learned while in Seal training. The book is an expansion of his commencement speech at the University of Texas in 2014. Will likely buy a physical copy for reference and re-reading. #ReadingUSA2019 (so hard to choose a state...Texas? where the speech occurred. Or, North Carolina? where he was born...)

Librarybelle Definitely a hard choice...either way works well! 6y

I've been working long hours and getting very little reading done, but I have been reading about a chapter of this a day, and I'm loving it. Practical advice from a Navy SEAL perspective, but the writing is extremely engaging and enjoyable.

//⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️// Make Your Bed is an incredible gem packaged tightly into a small book that lends itself well to an easy and quick read. This book offers tidbits that are simplistic yet powerful no matter your station in life. I am confident that every person who reads this book will walk away inspired by at least one little thing to make a change in their life and then maybe, quite maybe, the world. Read: 12/15/17

This small volume (can be read in one sitting ) expands on a graduation speech given by Admiral McRaven, a Navy SEAL. Now I make my bed daily! "If you make your bed daily, you will have accomplished the first task of the day." It sets the tone for the day, and if you happen to have a bad day, a made bed helps you feel like tomorrow might be better. His other advice he shares is pretty solid, too. We also learn how tough it is to be a Navy SEAL.

When you get stranded at an airport for hours it's a great opportunity to catch up on your reading 😊
This was a good inspirational read with great life lessons taken from Navy Seal training but that can apply to every facet of daily life. And I agree, when I make my bed I do feel better mentally, though I don't think I would pass the coin toss...
If you find yourself feeling down and discouraged read this little book, it will lift you up
