I like this one! It's twisty and turny with smirking references to the genre. The characters are richly portrayed and maddeningly (but realistically) imperfect. And now I feel all ready to see the author and get her latest release later this week!

I think this one was pretty weak compared to The Girl on the Train.
Characters weren't likable and everything was just so ugly in this book. I still would say characters were well fleshed out.
This wasn't something I really enjoyed, this didn't make me feel good. But I don't think this was ment to do that either.
This didn't have any good twists that I love in mystery books and wasn't really intriguing to read either.
I know this book has gotten a lot of bad reviews, but I really enjoyed it. A young man is found dead and 3 women are connected to his murder. The how and why those women are connected to the man‘s death unfolds slowly, but the story is interesting and kept me turning the pages. Hawkins is so good at writing flawed characters!
The slow burning theme was very relevant 😂 the build up in the story was very intriguing and had twists throughout! The plot was a little disjointed and had a non-linear timeline. Some aspects were difficult to follow, but like most crime novels, all the details came together.
I loved the slow burn! 😂🤣
I have a question which the answer might be a spoiler. I‘ll post in comments.
Finally getting to this one and it‘s starting just as the title suggests.

So I really liked Girl on the Train, this book, by the same author, was ok. If you‘re looking for a good mystery, this might be up your alley.
Book 75
I listened to A Slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins; it's a mystery about the death of a young man on a boat. With his complicated past and multiple suspects, it isn't easy to ascertain who did it. It was enjoyable enough to listen to and had a twist, but overall forgetful. 3.5 stars
Anyone else crave a good mystery in the summer? “A Slow Fire Burning” was pretty good. There are three deaths, two of them closely connected. The reader finds out the premise and murderer of each. This book definitely engaged me, and it was a quick read, it was just a bit confusing. With five perspectives and three murders, it was hard to keep track of at times. Overall: 3.5 stars
I‘m not sure why this hasn‘t got many good reviews. I thought it was really good. It was gritty and disturbing and also compulsive reading. The plot was interesting and the characters were well written and believable. I thought Laura‘s erratic behaviour was particularly well done. Hawkins is great at portraying characters who have difficulties with mainstream life. I thought she did this well in Girl on a Train too.
I‘m sad to see this book get so many bad reviews. Yes, there are a few characters to follow and the book jumps from the past to present in parts but in all the story kept my ADD brain following and interested. Three woman are intricately woven into a young mans murder and how they are all connected slowly unfolds throughout out the story. Hawkins has a way of writing about deeply flawed characters and this time she nailed it with all three!
When she introduces 15 characters that I‘m supposed to keep track of in the first 5 chapters, I just can‘t. If I miss who‘s POV it is, I‘m completely lost.
I totally forgot someone told me not to listen to this on audio 🤷🏻♀️. I needed an audiobook and it was available. Maybe I‘ll try again in print. It was supposed to be my thriller for #NoShameReadathon
Onto the next one.
Gratuitous "sad" puppy photo.
This book was interesting, not the best, but definitely enough to keep you interested. A few times I was worried it would get a little too gorey but it stops just before that line (for me anyway). I feel like I at least half knew what the outcome of this was going to be and also that my compassion for pretty much all the characters was low, minus one or two.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I savored the slow burn of this emotional, character-driven mystery about how damage can affect people. Rosamund Pike‘s performance is phenomenal - she brought even more humanity to the already well-developed characters, and I felt the sentiment in every word.🎧
I wasn‘t sure at first about this one from Hawkins, but at the nearly half way point I‘m hooked. It‘s complicated (obviously, it‘s a psychological thriller) but Rosamund Pike is one of the BEST narrators. She‘s adding so much depth to the otherwise shaky story. #Booked2022 #MurderMystery
I found that you either love or hate her books, I have loved them. About a quarter thru this one and again another page Turner for me at least. I should get thru this one rather quickly
I should have bailed on it, but I finished it hoping the twist at the end would make it more enjoyable. It did not.
The three potential female murderers each had their own stories to tell. As the mystery unfolds having some mention of what was happening with the police investigation would have helped develop the story more, but the author chooses just to focus on the women. It felt sensationalized and unbelievable.
Catchy, intriguing, easy and quick read... Enjoyed the book.
Almost halfway through this audiobook. I like it a lot so far. Rotating perspectives and just starting to see how they all intertwine.
A young man is found dead in the boat he lives in. We follow three women, Laura, Carla and Miriam. Laura was seen near his home at the time of his death and has a history with violence. Carla is his aunt. Miriam is his neighbor, living in an other boat and is the one who finds him.
We get these women‘s stories and we are not a part of the police investigation. And I‘m not sure I liked that way of telling the story. Also I didn‘t care to find

1. Yes! Earlier this year I finished the Popsugar Reading Challenge and #booked2021. I also reached my GR goal of 85 books.
2. Yes, the tagged book. I hope I can get to it by the end of this month because on Dec. 1, I will be all about holiday reads and #wintergames2021!
If you want to play, consider yourself tagged! 🤗
Well, the book is definitely a slow burn… I think there was a bit of a leap in believability for how Irene‘s story wrapped, I just didn‘t quite get there with her development throughout the book but otherwise, the character development in this was very strong. But there was a lot happening, I think this easily could have been longer to have a bit more depth.
A whodunnit with multiple perspectives and tragic backstories. Several viable suspects with intertwined relationships. How did a body end up on a houseboat? Was it the last person to see the dead man? Several familiar troupes are featured including the meddling older woman. There‘s another vein running throughout, sort of a mystery within a mystery that didn‘t work for me. While I wasn‘t totally sold on this, I was entertained.
Hmmm I was very disappointed in this book. Wasn‘t quite my kind of read. Yes was some unknown parts but wasn‘t the best story line.

2nd book read
In this book everyone is a suspect because everyone is unlikeable or disturbed enough to make for a viable killer. It worked for me. The only likeable character is a nosy, old Ms. Marple type, but I liked the fact that I didn't like the others and I felt sorry for every one of them. It made for an interesting dynamic.

This book is everything a good mystery book should be. Good, twisty plotting and interesting characters. I am a slow reader but I finished it in two days. Grab it and enjoy! Five big stars.
What to tag!? Four books tied at my highest rating of a 4.5 (A-). Tough choice but Wen with the tagged because I had fun reading this mystery unfold.
5* = Loved It, want to shout out loud about this book! I do/will own/keep a physical copy. A+
4*= I liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3*=Meh, no need to discuss. Average C
2*=Nope D
1*=DNF F
I had pen and paper in hand as I read this so I could track the characters and their connections to each other. I‘m glad I did this because it helped me stay focused on the many aspects of this story. Every character had their part in how this tale went down and I enjoyed it!
I was disappointed with this book. There were some intriguing characters, (especially Irene and Laura), but I think they book eventually fell flat. I loved Into the Water and enjoyed Girl on the Train, but there were too many story lines that weren‘t properly developed.
I could list many trigger warnings, but in particular there‘s a completely unnecessary scene of extreme animal cruelty.
Essentially, I think it‘s a sadly forgettable book.
If you don‘t expect “the girl on the train” then it‘s still really good. Nothing will ever compare though 😌
Even though I read a hardback copy of this one already I really wanted to listen to the audiobook as well, and I was not disappointed! Rosamund Pike narrates and does a FANTASTIC job! I love her voice. I think I actually enjoyed the audiobook better than my own reading, which isn‘t always the case. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 16 points for #scarathlon2021 #teamslaughter
"That again. What it always comes down to. You couldn't understand. You're not a mother. You've never experienced love, not really. You don't have it inside of you, whatever it is, the capacity for limitless, unconditional love. The capacity for unbounded hatred, either."
The writing in this is just amazing, and the title is perfect for the characters that are less than stable!
**Violence against an animal TRIGGER though. 😤
“Blood-sodden, the girl staggers into the black.”

#two4tuesday Oops…I forgot to post yesterday! 😱
1. No, I‘m not much into horror!
2. Tagged. I loved the author‘s previous books!
Not great, not terrible
Eh, it was ok. I didn't necessarily have high expectations going in, so I suppose in a sense it wasn't all that disappointing. It just seemed to be lacking something. Suspense maybe? Perhaps the fire burned a little too slowly. Though it's moments like this where I'm particularly grateful for the library, I would be more bummed if this had been a purchase!
My reading buddy on the other hand - A+ 😸
