Behind the Horror: True Stories That Inspired Horror Movies
Behind the Horror: True Stories That Inspired Horror Movies | Lee Dr Mellor
Uncover the twisted tales that inspired the big screen's greatest screams. Which case of demonic possession inspired The Exorcist? What horrifying front-page story generated the idea for A Nightmare on Elm Street? Which film was based on the infamous skin-wearing murderer Ed Gein? Unearth the terrifying and true tales behind some of the scariest Horror movies to ever haunt our screens, including the Enfield poltergeist case that was retold in The Conjuring 2 and the serial killers who inspired Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. Behind the Horror dissects these and other bizarre tales to reveal haunting real-life stories of abduction, disappearance, murder, and exorcism.

This book is a two-fer. You get a synopsis of a movie plus a detailed account of the criminal and the crimes that inspired the film. Starting with “M”, made in 1931, the book includes movies such as “Psycho”, “The Exorcist”, “The Silence of the Lambs”, “Scream”, and “Poltergeist”, to name a few. If you like scary movies, you might enjoy this book.

An excellent commute book for any horror buff. Each chapter summarizes a horror movie and then gives details about its real life inspo. A bit more interplay between the two would have been welcome. Wolf Creek was the only movie in the book I hadn‘t seen so… plans!

jitteryjane724 This is lovely that you made out well in a swap! I put a lot of effort into a Christmas swap a few years back and all I got in exchange was a pair of plain black shoelaces... 😬 2y
Chrissyreadit @jitteryjane724 I‘m sorry to hear that! We try to be very on top of things for litsy swaps including tracking how people participate. Sometimes a bad swap happens but usually they can‘t participate again. 2y

THANK YOU to my #CreepyChristmasSwap match @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego 🖤
My package made its second trip out of Canada and got to me in #Seattle today (by way of San Francisco for some strange reason..who comes up with these mail routes?).
It was sad to tear through the cute wrapping paper, but the goodies are fabulous; I‘m especially excited for the tagged book and smelly bath bomb.
Happy New Year to you and thank you Danielle 😘

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego It took the extra long route, but hopefully it was worth the wait. 🎅🏼☠️🖤 3y
TheRiehlDeal Mail routes… tell me about it! 🙄 It seems like these past few years they‘ve been out of whack. Here in NY, sometimes when I order something, the tracking will say it‘s near Syracuse, then later it‘ll be out in Rochester, and then it‘ll come back to Syracuse. Like that‘s a lot of wasted gas for the delivery trucks. 3y
LeahBergen What a great parcel! 3y

Really enjoyed this one. I feel like this will make a great coffee table or guestroom book so that if someone would like to read just one second. I am not a “short“ story type of person, but it was enjoyable to read the “real life“ behind the scenes story. (although a lot of the stories I know they went into more detail) #FallTBR #IPromiseToRead

Finishing up this fun little book. A lot of information I already knew & an equal amount that was new to me. Highly recommend for the horror buffs.
