4.5 Stars • "False Witness" by Karin Slaughter is a gripping thriller that explores the story around sisters Leigh and Callie, who share a dark secret from their childhood. Leigh has become a successful lawyer, while Callie has struggled with addiction and various personal issues. The plot thickens when a long-buried crime resurfaces, threatening to destroy the life Leigh has built.
4-7-24: My 8th finished book of 2024! Wow, every trigger warning is in this novel. Drug abuse-especially heroin use, molestation, rape, murder, suicidal ideation, the list goes on and on. It was a really rough read but overall very good. Young Callie and Leigh, have done something horrific for good reasons. Years later, as adults, their secret begins to resurface and they must try to deal with the fall out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣8️⃣
4/5
The first chapter drew me in, and I was definitely invested in the characters and storyline from the beginning.
TWs: In typical fashion, this novel by Slaughter is quite graphic, including violence and SA.
"It's not about making good choices. It's about having good choices".
This was my last read of 2023.
I enjoy Slaughter. She is a good to for me. I can usually figure out what is going on/what happened but the story is still good. I like her writing and story telling skills.
3.8 ⭐️ only because I figured it out lol
Recommend if you like slightly twisty thriller/mysteries.
Discount book find of the day! Always ready for a Karin Slaughter book! #Meijer
Hey everyone, been in a big hole lately but I‘m climbing back out slowly!
I wasn‘t a big fan of this standalone by one of my auto buy read-as-soon-as-it‘s-in-my-hands authors.First time I‘ve ever not been happy with one of her books! Not sure why, I didn‘t like any of the characters and even the plot, which she‘s normally a master at, didn‘t really thrill me. I was worried she was being a Cornwall but her recent ones have been great. Thank god!
I had taken a break from Karin Slaughter because the Will Trent series was driving me bonkers - the new show didn‘t help matters either. So I decided to pick up one of her stand-alones that has been hanging out in #TheVault. I don‘t think any other author writing today gets me ripping through 500 page books quite like she does. She really is a master. 👍🏼
All my holds are coming in around the same time. I got alot of reading to do.
Just getting around to posting this after the craziness of last night. Talk about finishing it in the final hour lol
Overall, this was just a so-so for me. It kept my interest but I‘ve read more gripping thrillers with better characters. I do appreciate the detail the author put into the characters though

Final #Scarathlon points and wrap up!
I earned 35,743 points for week 4, bringing my total points for the event to 61,023. The week 4 games and adding up all my bingo lines and movie/tv/podcast consumption really helped to make this week a strong finish!
Thanks again for hosting @Clwojick (and happy birthday!)!

Autumn skies and final scores for #Scarathlon. This was my best week. Managed to read 16 books and around 100 hours across the whole month. 16,583 points for week 4 #TeamSlaughter. Thanks for being a fab captain @Clwojick . Well done all on both teams. Always lots of fun.

I read these 12 books for #scarathlondailyprompt and #OminousOctober and read them earning some extra points.
My last Karin Slaughter. Pieces of Her was a good story but I had so many problems with this one. It felt too prurient with its pedophila/child rape storyline. It really needed an editor. So much repetition, unnecessary overly long explanatory passages. Yes, author, we get you know a lot about a variety of topics related to crimes and cops. #TeamSlaughter #Scarathalon @Clwojick
@The.Great.Catsby I an stoked about these books. The 🎃 sock are in use. Thank you so much!! @wanderinglynn #HHS Happy Halloween!
#Scarathlondailyprompt #guilt #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick
There‘s plenty of guilt being felt in this one!
Several times the characters in this book say, "There's only one thing we can do now," and I think, "Yes, go to the police," and then they proceed to outline and carry out some complicated vigilante plan. The violence, especially against children, is graphic, extreme, and relentless, but there are some redeeming characters here (the veterinarian, the one police officer).
#TeamSlaughter team read, just under the wire! 12 hrs, 171 pts. #scarathlon
I had a love/hate relationship with this one. The story was fantastic but I knew in the first 200 pages that this was going to be at least 100 pages too long. Slaughter either breaks the bank or writes like she needs filler for her 500 word high school essay. This book was the latter. So many words and they were all the same 🤦♀️

4✨ n 1998 Callie is babysitting until his dad come home. That is when the trouble started and someone winds up dead. Flash forward to 2021 when things were just opening up again after the pandemic. Leigh is a defense attorney hired to an alleged rapist. This causes it all to flood back. It was an amazing read. It did have several trigger warnings for: rape, pedophilia, drugs, and abuse. #TeamSlaughter buddy read #Scarathon @Clwojick
Not super pretty, but having pumpkin spice dipped apples for dessert today while reading the tagged. I‘ll be updating the last few things from last week shortly. #scarthon #teamslaughter @Clwojick
I liked this, but I just felt like it was unnecessarily long.

I finished these 12 books during #OutstandingOctober. Thank you, @Andrew65 for hosting. 🤓
Nope. Can't do it. And I only feel bad because it's the #teamslaughter #buddyread. Turns out I can't handle this type of thriller. Honestly, I almost stopped after the first chapter. Oh well.
Do #wordsearch words count for books you #dnf?
#scarathlon2022 @Clwojick
The love and pain shared between sisters Leigh and Callie make this thriller stand out. Icy rich boy rapist Andrew is a creepy villain. Minor characters have a few tricks up their sleeves as well. Enjoyed this one even more than “Pieces of her,” I think because of the strong sibling relationship. #TeamRead #thriller #Scarathalon22 #TeamSlaughter #31by31

Also did the word search on team read, False Witness. That yielded almost as many points as my 1st week total tally!!!

Finished one of my #TeamSlaughter #teamreads. I love Karin Slaughter. I especially love Karin Slaughter narrated by Kathleen Early.

Bk9 of #Scarathlon & Bk4 of #OutstandingOctober #readathon is done! My 2nd time reading the #TeamRead & it‘s still not my favourite Slaughter unfortunately. I found most of the characters awful & annoying(I feel like a traitor just saying it!)🫣 #WordSearch #BodyCountBingo ##PromptMaze #31x31 #Spookaween #Pointsathon #AutumnBingo #StabbyBingo #BooktrovertBingo #ReadLikeHellathon #OctoberBookBingo #BookspinBingo #Pop22 #TeamSlaughter 👇 3,681pts
Nothing says happy anniversary like my husband getting teeth extracted and me being left alone to finish this team read. Really though, I‘m not complaining.
My skin crawled. My stomach churned. I‘m pretty sure I said “wtf” out loud on numerous occasions. What a whirlwind of a book. First time reading this author, won‘t be my last.
10/15‘s #ScarathonDailyPrompt Read, #TeamSlaughter team read and team theme book. +81 for that alone. 👏🏼
Just finished the #TeamRead of #TeamSlaughter for the #Scarathlon #readathon! But it‘s 4am and there‘s no way my tired eyes & brain will work out the prompts & points right now, so I‘ll post my review tomorrow(well, today really🥱)when I won‘t fall asleep over pencil & paper! Night😴 1pt
Currently reading the #TeamRead for #TeamSlaughter in the #Scarathlon #readathon I first read this when it was released, wasn‘t my favourite Slaughter by a long shot, let‘s see if I change my mind! About two sisters, one a lawyer who‘s blackmailed into representing a man she knows is guilty.
My first Karin Slaughter and I get what all the fuss is about! A dark, gritty thriller with strong characters and a gut-wrenching plot, this is not for the faint of heart. With a name like hers, it‘s no surprise that Slaughter holds nothing back-trigger warnings abound. However, this never feels gratuitous and the cat and mouse game is great reading. Ultimately, this is a story of revenge, redemption, and an enduring bond between two sisters. 4⭐️
And I finally got a bingo!
#bodycountbingo
It‘s Not What You Think - Verity (still dont know WHAT I think)
Revenge Plot - The Getaway (I think most of these were a revenge plot, but… this was a doozy)
Free Space -False Witness
Something Spooky - Empire of Wild (it‘s werewolves)
Philosophical Pondering - Just After Sunset (a few of King‘s stories in the collection are about life after death, seemed fitting)

#Scarathlon2022 #TeamSlaughter
Great thriller.
The dynamic between Callie and Leigh was superb. Great set up and side characters. There were some plot points that seemed implausible, and I definitely saw a couple of the twists coming. But overall, it was dark, it was gory, the pacing was immaculate. Everything I have come to expect from Karin Slaughter.

Lots of words collected in the week 2 game, finished our team read, and racked up some readathon hours from audiobook listening. Looking forward to week 3!
So, this deals with darker themes than what I usually read, and it was very stressful, because the bad guy was really awful and in control of the story for much of the book, but I had a hard time putting it down.

I actually enjoyed this book. I was a little hesitant because I don't do well with gore. Yes, there were some graphic scenes about rape, drugs, and abuse but it did not deter me away from the story. I really wanted to know how the sisters were going to get away from the bad guy that I kept listening until the very end.

The priority is the #teamslaughter #buddyread False Witness, I got a 1/3 or so of the way in but didn‘t have the time to devote to it this week, so hoping to have some time this weekend. I‘ve got about 4 hours left on the St James, I still don‘t know how to feel about it. The others I haven‘t started yet. #Scarathlon2022
