False Witness | Karin Slaughter

Pickpick

I had taken a break from Karin Slaughter because the Will Trent series was driving me bonkers - the new show didn‘t help matters either. So I decided to pick up one of her stand-alones that has been hanging out in #TheVault. I don‘t think any other author writing today gets me ripping through 500 page books quite like she does. She really is a master. 👍🏼

So remember AGES ago when I said I was going to focus on books in #TheVault? That‘s what I call my Kindles because many times the books are “outta sight, outta mind.” Yeah, that didn‘t happen. In addition to those, I‘m making a concerted effort to tackle books that have actually been staring me in the face for years too. This is one of those books. It‘s a CHONKSTER. Over 500 pages and the font was like 8 point. My bleeding eyes. 👇🏼👇🏼

MicheleinPhilly Anywho…the synopsis for this is a bit misleading as it reads as though there is a mystery at the heart of it but it‘s really of no consequence. This is actually a sprawling “autopsy” if you will, of a particular London road and its inhabitants in 2008. I got a bit of a Casual Vacancy vibe from it. Perhaps a smidge too long but thoroughly enjoyable. 👍🏼 2y
rockpools I think I might have this in my vaults (if it was on my shelves with 8 point type, it‘d never get read, I‘m afraid!) You‘ve made me want to actually read it! 2y
MicheleinPhilly @rockpools My reading glasses got a good workout. I seriously don‘t understand the point of these microscopic font sizes! 👵🏼 But yes, I recommend it. 2y

rockpools @MicheleinPhilly Even with reading glasses, I object as a matter of principle, so much respect to you for getting through it. But I do have it on kindle, so 🎉 2y
BarbaraBB I still have this on my shelves as well 2y
Suet624 I‘m currently doing that thing that I find myself doing every year, despite saying I won‘t. I decide to read every book in all of the five libraries I frequent instead of reading the books on my shelves. I‘m a little bit disgusted with myself. Congrats on getting through at least one of yours. 2y

I have no idea when or how this ended up in #TheVault but I am oh so glad it did. A wickedly delicious satire of the beauty/fashion industry and social media/influencers. I was really pleasantly surprised by how sharp this was. 4🌟

EvieBee I remember this one on the All the Books podcast in like 2016 or 2017. It‘s in my vault, too lol! 3y
squirrelbrain Sounds fun - stacked! 3y

TrishB 😁 I don‘t remember half the stuff in mine! 3y
Cinfhen Same!!! 3y
MicheleinPhilly @EvieBee @TrishB I have an “e-books owned” shelf on Goodreads. I like to take a spin through it every now and again to laugh at myself. 3y
EvieBee I think we‘re in the same boat. I‘m over 3k on owned Kindle books. Sheesh… 3y
batsy @MicheleinPhilly This cracked me up. I definitely need a shelf like that on my GR, as well. 3y
DivineDiana I follow this author on Instagram, and was so happy to win this when it was first published. A fun read with some serious topics. Also going to steal that Goodreads idea! (edited) 3y
Christine Ooh yay, thanks for reminding me of this one! 3y

JennyM I read this in two sittings a few weekends ago. Very twisty and clever. Kept me on my toes! 3y
TrishB @JennyM it was your comments that convinced me 😁 3y

Another one from #TheVault. (That‘s what I‘m calling my overflowing Kindles.) A very light pick. I figured out the twist pretty early on and found the resolution to be too hasty. Still it was a quick, entertaining read that was more courtroom drama than murder mystery.

TrishB Great name for it 😁 some of mine have been on there for a looooong time! 4y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB I have some that date back to when I first got a Kindle. So essentially, the Dark Ages. 😬 4y
TrishB Me too 😁 4y

rubyslippersreads Great name (though for some that have been on my Kindle for years, #TheTomb might be more appropriate. 🤣) 4y
MicheleinPhilly @rubyslippersreads 🤣 I like to think that I will get to all of them but I know there are some I won‘t. For instance, years ago I bought this Bob Woodward book on its release day. I am NEVER reading it now. 4y
vivastory The Vault is a good name 😂 I was looking up a book on Kindle the other day & it rudely reminded me that I'd already purchased it. 😂📚 4y
MicheleinPhilly @vivastory Those reminders have saved me hundreds of dollars! 4y
