This modern masterpiece of military fantasy seamlessly blends intricate storytelling with historical inspiration, immersing readers in Fang Runin's transformative journey from a war orphan to a powerful shaman. Kuang skillfully navigates the complexities of war, trauma, and revolution, drawing parallels to the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War. I mourned each chapter as it brought closer to the inevitable, gut-wrenching end.
The Poppy War trilogy is a masterpiece and a modern classic of military fantasy—and every book will leave you in awe and in pain. Follow Fang Runin from poor scholar to powerful shaman, from war orphan to war criminal, as she takes vengeance on the rulers who‘ve abused her, on a war path inspired by the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War, and delve into war and trauma, rage and revolution, in detail not only horrific, but historic.
I went from An Echo in the Bone to a Court of Silver and Flames. I guess I might as well keep up the "big book" trend and finally finish this series.
Dang!!! This book was as an awesome conclusion to a series that was such an awesome read!!! With an ending that I didn‘t see coming. I lover this book as the conclusion to the series!!!
Here‘s my review for it!!!

This whole series is so traumatizing, and #TheBurningGod really takes the cake! I can 100% understand if people don‘t like this series - it‘s gruesome, violent, unflinching and full of war crimes. At the end, I was close to throwing my book around the room. Reading this trilogy was incredible and RF Kuang has my heart for forever.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

#TwoForTuesday Cannot believe we are almost through August, but I am very ready for some Fall weather and vibes!
1. Tagged book was my favorite of the month wrapping up the amazing Poppy War trilogy.
2. The story, the flawed but fascinating characters, the action and magic system.

A fantastic and heartbreaking end to this epic historical fantasy trilogy. I can‘t go into detail because spoilers, but I loved this story and can‘t wait to read more from this author. 5⭐️

#20in4 #Readathon first book done!
Well I listened to all 24 hours and it was an incredible journey. Kuang did a good job of backing Rin into a corner so that the ending was inescapable. However, this wasn't the ending I would have liked and I found myself cringing during the epilogue. I can see why this series is as hyped as it is as the story telling and writing style is fantastic. And the audiobook narrator (Michelle Woo) has become a new favorite.
Was severely disappointed when I finished this series, it became apart of my day and now its done. Really looking forward to seeing what comes next.
A great finish to an interesting series by a young and extremely talented woman.
I've been super swamped lately but I'm taking this Sunday to drink some spiked Mexican hot chocolate, get some reading done, and post some quick reviews. Happy Sunday!

As a reader, 2021 was not a good year for me - I only read 14 books! It's sad because I used to read over 100 books a year.
So this year, my goal is to read at least 50. I think I'm off to a good start! ☺️

Does this mean I can‘t read it 🤔
Rin, what the FUCK?
I feel this quote best encapsulates the entire trilogy. (Which was wonderful and traumatic and frustrating and amazing.)
I didn‘t read so many books in May, but these three books were my top reads.
Fang Runin.
What a growth for this character.
Everything about this book and closure blows me away. I‘m a total wreck. The brilliance behind how the story is weaved and taken after actual history is downright brilliant yet so very brutal. I will need some time to recover from this.
I'm still processing the ending but really excited to see what Kuang does next.
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 64.

Worth the ride! This was the perfect ending for a fantastic trilogy. I was anxious from thinking of potential ways it could be screwed up. I was so relieved, satisfied, yet sad that this saga has concluded.
Okay, finally finished and admittedly feeling conflicted. The last 100-150ish pages were amazing. The pacing leading up to them could often feel off for me. Part of which may have been a less central focus and a perceived drawing back from the characters and their relationships. Kuang‘s voice remains incredible and I still love the series.
Yes, I have potentially been reading this too long (been hard to read about the drudgery of war right now tbh). But I‘m in the back third now!
Me all week. Trying to read the Burning God. Mostly drinking wine.

1. The Burning God by R.F Kuang! The third instalment to The Poppy War series! LOVE this series!
2. The Girl & The Ghost by Hannah Alkaf
3. 48 this year, a 20% increase from 40 in 2020 :)

BookDepository, why do you hate me???? 😭😭😭😭
What do I have to do to get this book in paperback before May???? Why is life so cruel?????

It‘s here!
I‘m so excited!
It‘s also enormous so it‘s unlikely that I‘ll read it this month (especially since I was waiting for this one before reading the second book which I think makes if you‘ve read the first book)
Ugh okay my physical preorder of this book has just stopped moving so I don't know when it will ever get to me so using the audiobook!
Much like the first two books in the trilogy, this final instalment was absolutely perfect and heart wrenching and BRUTAL. RF Kuang pulled off a very ambitious ending, and same as my reaction to reading the other books, I have zero coherent thoughts and my heart H U R T S. Easily one of my favourite fantasy series ever.
I was so excited about Rhythm of War getting here yesterday that I forgot to showcase the other preordered book that came in! 😂 The Burning God is the final book in this epic, blood drenched, fantasy series! I'm super excited about it! I love Kuang's writing so much!
I‘m so excited and absolutely terrified for this series to come to its end.
