I truly enjoyed this book. The story moves back and forth in time, following the love story of a married woman and her lover through time, and also the story of the young reporter trying to figure out who these lovers were. I was completely sucked into the story, but did not find it a tear jerker like some of Moyes other works. I found the young reporter a bit unlikable, but that didn‘t ruin the story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 /5

My favorite place to read, in the sunshine, with coffee. It‘s only 50 degrees, but the sun makes my porch nice and warm. Glorious! Just hoping the squirrels are a little more aware of my presence today. 🤣❤️📚☕️

Aims42 Looks like a beautiful reading spot 😍 I also hope the squirrels are more aware of you today lol 🐿🥜 3y
Elizabeth2 @Aims42 No squirrel interactions today! Haha! I did get distracted by a woodpecker on the tree a few feet from me. The clouds moved in making it feel closer to 50 degrees so I‘ve moved back inside. I did get a wonderful 45 minutes though! 🙂🌤 3y

Wow this is overly dramatic and the second half I just didn't want. I am going to say so-so for the first half. Part of the issue was me I kept forgetting this was Jojo Moyes and wasn't expecting this sort of eye roll inducing "epic love" stuff. The basics of the storyline is very compelling though, and I might watch the movie.

Book #65: This felt like two books in one. An epic and sad love story lasting decades with interesting jumping timelines. I watched the Netflix film after I finished the book. Definitely preferred the book because they had to take a lot of the depth out for the movie and the casting wasn‘t exactly my favorite.

I ended up really enjoying this overall, although there were some things that I actually preferred in the movie version over the book. One of those was the pacing - the book spends the first over 50% just dealing with the past storyline without even introducing the current timeline. I much prefer when the storylines go back and forth throughout. The Ellie in the movie was also more assertive and independent. But still good! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I've had this book for awhile and never got around to reading it. Then I saw that the movie came out! Wanting to read the book before seeing the movie, (we all know movies are never as good as the books) I finally read it. It was so beautiful! I'm really glad I took the time to enjoy it. In true Jojo Moyes form, this book was a tragedy. If you're not familiar with her writing, make sure you have tissue on hand! Regardless, a great read!

One of the most impactful comparisons I‘ve gotten from The Last Letter From Your Lover was that J, in 1960, was always willing to get out of her loveless marriage despite being shunned by friends, not having money of her own, and losing her memory. While Ellie, in 2003, poured her energy and emotions in an affair, which headed obviously nowhere, armed with the ability of taking care of herself financially.

I had insomnia last night and ended up finishing this at 4 am. It was a lovely read and love story. The dual timelines worked well, unlike the way that a lot of historical fiction uses that plot device totally superfluously. I was interested in reading this after watching the Netflix adaptation; I can objectively say the book is better. I was surprised to find the plot in the later timeline is also quite different from the movie version.

Saknicole I want to watch the movie (you know I love Shailene!) but I am usually annoyed by duel storylines. Usually I don‘t give a fuck about the modern part. I‘m happy you liked it, that‘s a good sign! 3y
Kimberlone @Saknicole I still liked the movie, but the book is definitely better. I also get annoyed with dual timelines but I think it worked in this book. 3y

My husband had to leave for a business trip this morning, so Sawyer and I are enjoying the fresh air, while we can (until it storms again). I‘m starting this book so I can watch the movie on Netflix, while Sawyer starts a new bone to chew on.

The movie was lovely! I haven‘t read the book yet, so I can‘t compare, but I definitely recommend the movie if you like romance stories and those that go back and forth in time. And after the movie they had a very nice Q&A with the author, actors, and director! Now I‘m off to bed before I pass out 😴

Took me a while to listen to this one. I was more interested in Jennifer‘s story than I was with Ellie‘s in present day. I agree with what some others have said on here about Ellie‘s part starting 2/3‘s through the book & much of it being excess. There were parts in Jennifer‘s story that were long winded as well. All of this said, I‘m eager for the movie coming to Netflix this month b/c of the cast & that it looks different to the book.

Reading The Last Letter from Your Lover before the movie comes out. I only heard about the movie because Joe Alwyn is in it, so I hope it's good. 😂

MyNamesParadise I just finished the audiobook! And was excited to have it finished before the movie comes out. I heard of it because of Joe Alwyn and Shailene Woodley are in it. I‘m excited for the movie, even though i had mixed feelings about the book, and I realize listening to it may have been a different experience than physically reading it! 3y

Amnesia seems to have fallen out of favor as hackneyed plot device, but it makes a triumphant return in this tale of star-crossed lovers. I enjoyed this love story, riddled with tragedy though it was. I appreciated that the modern day perspective didn‘t come until 2/3 of the book was over and how that perspective added to the original and drew a contrast between love affairs that made Jennifer and Anthony‘s love...truer. A beautiful novel in the art of love letters written to ones who hold their ❤️ and hope. It's the 1960's, Jennifer Sterling, married to an asbestos tycoon, awakens in a hospital with amnesia. She lives a gilded life with loyal friends, and all things beautiful. However, a mysterious love letter begins a search into what happened before the accident, unveiling secrecies. Is there such a thing as true love-40 years later Ellie H. finds the letter.

Sills This is so hard cutting down a description-so much more to a beautiful and heartening plot of twists and turns❤️ 4y

I‘m not typically a romance reader and ultimately I‘d consider this as such, but I did enjoy it for the most part. It‘s got a more serious tone than Moyes‘ other novels, and it dragged on maybe a little longer than it needed to, but still worth reading. Bittersweet story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2.5-3 Stars

The main story was interesting (taken place mostly in the 1960‘s), but it was drawn out with these other little things that weren‘t essential. Then near the end of the book we meet Ellie in present day (2003). I see her as being valuable, but her own storyline was not. I could have easily skipped over her story.

This could have been an excellent story if Ellie's part had been left out. The story starts with a lady named Jennifer who wakes up with amnesia. She kind of remembers her husband, but when she gets home she finds letters from her lover. Soooooo, good. Then the author brings in Ellie's storyline and tie it into Jennifer's and I wasn't feeling it.

A mixture of two separate stories of doomed love, Moyes creates a combination of historical and contemporary fiction successfully intertwining the stories together in the end.

While I found myself less interested in the present day story, the author successfully drew me back in, although I wasn‘t satisfied with the ending. Letter writing is truly a lost art form and this reminded me of the beauty, joy and romance around writing love letters.

What are people's thoughts on audio books?
I downloaded one to listen to in the car as I now have a longer commute in the morning, but so far am struggling to enjoy it as much as sitting down and reading a physical book. 🚗📚

TheBookgeekFrau It took a little while for me to get into it (reading, not listening); but it was worth it. It's a good story so hang in. I don't listen to books, so I don't know if there's a big difference between the two 🤷‍♀️ 6y
Crazeedi I don't listen to many audiobooks, but I've promised myself that I will do more this year. I think it's a habit to develop 6y

These are my second hand bookstore finds from today. Went in with two bags full of books and came back with these. That's what I love when swaping books through second hand bookstore. I always come out with fewer books than when I went in with. I still have books for a second visit before my vacation is over. So hopefully get to do this again in few weeks. 😍📚
