Stolen
Stolen | Lucy Christopher
A stunning debut novel with an intriguing literary hook: written in part as a letter from a victim to her abductor. Sensitive, sharp, captivating! Gemma, 16, is on layover at Bangkok Airport, en route with her parents to a vacation in Vietnam. She steps away for just a second, to get a cup of coffee. Ty--rugged, tan, too old, oddly familiar--pays for Gemma's drink. And drugs it. They talk. Their hands touch. And before Gemma knows what's happening, Ty takes her. Steals her away. The unknowing object of a long obsession, Gemma has been kidnapped by her stalker and brought to the desolate Australian Outback. STOLEN is her gripping story of survival, of how she has to come to terms with her living nightmare--or die trying to fight it.

It took me awhile to get into this book. I do not like that it does not have chapters, but eventually understood that the entire book is supposed to be a written letter. I loved the way the ending was done though!

This book is absolutely wonderful. There are only two characters that the book centres on, and they are both fully fleshed out and intriguing. There are many questions that the reader will have during the course of the story, and that is what propels the reader further. It becomes a bit stagnant towards the middle, but quickly picks back up. The ending was right in every way, but still hurt a bit. The characters are the novel‘s strongest asset.

Love love love! I read this book years ago and every year I re-read it! This books was AMAZING. I could feel everything she had to go threw, I could feel her fear, devastation, lust, and even love. I couldn't even imagine liking her capture, but at the end you can feel for him and her. This book will take you for an emotional rollercoaster, still the best book I've ever read.

I liked the book but wanted a bit more. It was more of a less cynical version of kidnapping. Still a good read.

3. I had this really goofy book called The Thingamajig Book Of Manners. It had gross-ish, funny, troll-like characters that showed what you shouldn‘t do....like fart at the dinner table. I was obsessed with that book (I still have it) and I‘m guessing my first lessons came from it.

Gemma tells the story, her story, in a letter to her kidnapper, Ty. It left me equal parts uncomfortable and captivated. It was an interesting way to get into the psyche of someone who has been abducted, and Christopher did a wonderful job putting the reader in Gemma‘s shoes.

I haven‘t done a #recommendsday in awhile, but a friend recently took my advice and read this book. We had an awesome discussion thereafter! It‘s a total mind trip at the end, which is why I loved it so much. Yes, at one point you may have to suspend belief, but things like this do happen.

If you‘ve read it, what did you think? Total hate, meh or love? I have to add that this isn‘t my usual reading wheelhouse, but i was still moved.

It has taken me forever to read this book, due to reading other things in between. It was moving really slow for me, so I got bored. However, in the last 100 or so pages my interest really peaked. It's decent.

This is a perfectly imperfect love story you will hate to love. The abduction of a 16 year old girl from an airport quickly winds into a cadence of "daily life" stories that at first, You'll want to stop reading but yet can't put down. As I reflect now, moments after hearing the final words, I realise I've heard the story of a young girl who tragically turns into a young woman and the lifelong pain of a man who's illogical thinking makes sense.

I finished this book in a day because I could not put the book down. Grant it I did stay up till 2:00 in the morning just to finish it, but honestly it was worth it!

Lucy Christopher did a stunning job portraying a young girl being kidnapped by a man who only wants to be loved. She is taken to the middle of nowhere in Australia, and is isolated. Only to have the company of the kidnapper, Ty, as her way of staying sane enough to survive.

You saw me before I saw you. In the airport, that day in August, you had that look in your eyes, as though you'd wanted it for a long time. No one had ever looked at me like that before, with that kind of intensity. It unsettled me, surprised me I guess. Those blue, blue eyes, icy blue, looking back at me as if I could warm them up. They're pretty powerful, you know, those eyes, pretty beautiful too.

As I'm planning my TBR lists for the various 2017 challenges, I want to try my hardest to use books that I already owned and haven't read. Going through my library I found this little gem that I started reading a year or two ago and didn't finish it. It will be my last read for 2016.

BooksTeasAndBookishThings I read this book about 2 Christmases ago, I remember wondering why I was so sad and actually agreeing/connecting with her emotions instead of thinking she is bat-shit crazy. Terrific story told from the other side of it. 8y
ShelvesAndCandles I completely understand you! I just don't know why it made me sad like I was thinking that Ty didn't deserve to be put in jail. Indeed, terrific story and somehow creepy. @BooksTeasAndBookishThings 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings Yes. The middle part could have probably been condensed a little, but behinning and end made up for it, I think. I think it is so creepy, because it is so plausible that someone would think the way he does and also because we feel ourselves understanding her affection toward him. 8y
