Into the Land of the Unicorns
Into the Land of the Unicorns | Bruce Coville Coville
20 posts | 36 read | 11 to read
From the well-loved author of such successful young readers' books as Aliens Ate My Homework, Dragonslayers, and the "Camp Haunted Hills" series comes the first book in an adventurous new saga--the story of a young girl destined to save a gentle land from the dangerous, evil hunters trying to destroy it.

I only recently heard about this middle reader series. I'm so glad I did. The story is excellent. Since it is a series and there is more adventure to come I will be collecting the rest. (6 more) And it has a few different cover options but I loved this artwork the most. If you like portal adventures, unicorns and dragons you might want to check these out. (It may be too scary for some children so know your reader.)

🧮Yes, the tagged book holds the most rereads, The Lion, the witch, and the woredrobe, and Dinoverse. 👀 I would say yes. I do not pick it up to find out what it says without it catching my eye. 🌈Anything by Aldo Leopold. My favorite being The Sand County Almanac. Thank you for the tag @wanderinglynn Want to play @Littlewolf1 @CatVall85 @Tiffanyrgp ?

wanderinglynn The tagged sounds like a fun book. 👍🏻 4y

This is probably the 5th time I‘ve read this book. It was the first book my dad gave me money to purchase. I‘ve loved it for a long time, but finally have the whole set to finish and enjoy. I‘ll need a new copy next time I read it since it is well worn through the years.

I cannot think about unicorns without thinking about this little storybook my daughter made when she was in fourth grade. She won a citywide contest with it. I love it so much! #🦄 #emojimadness

A great fantasy primer, with complicated villains & complex emotions.

The very beginning & very end are the best parts. The first chapter features: a church as sanctuary, a dangerous man chasing a young girl & her grandmother, a precious amulet, & a fearless dive off of a tall tower into magic... or an untimely death. 🤷‍♀️ The end brings a dragon named FireThroat, the many returns of lost things, & the gift of tongues. It (mostly) holds up. 🦄

Laalaleighh Omg omg omg. My (librarian) aunt gave me this book to read while staying at her house as a kid and I‘ve been trying to find it ever since so I could finish the series but she couldn‘t remember the name- and I could just remember some vague things about the plot and that there was an amulet. THANK YOU I‘ve only been looking for this for like almost 20 years!! 7y
monalyisha @Laalaleighh Even if this Readathon were a complete bust otherwise (it‘s not), this would‘ve made it completely worth it! I‘m so happy for you!!!! 🎉😍💖🦄 7y
Laalaleighh Awww 💙💙💙 thank you!!!! You‘re so sweet!! ✨🦄✨🦄✨ I cant wait to order this one and FINALLY read the rest of the series! 7y

“Her heart was filled with an icy pain. Here is the reason: When the arrow struck [the unicorn], he had snapped up his head so fast that the tip of his horn caught beneath Beloved‘s breastbone and broke off there. That piece of horn was now lodged in her heart, which was doomed to be forever wounded, forever healing, both in the same instant.”

It‘s the first, true Weekend day of the #ThrowbackReadathon! Time to party! 🎉💃🏼

Unfortunately, I have to work 9-5 today, too. What the heck?! Who planned this? Who chose these dates?! Oh, right... that was me. 😆

I‘m planning to read some serious goodies today, though... so I‘m still excited.

Happy Saturday, guys!

Clwojick This ones one mine too, because I always wanted to read it as a child, but never got my hands on it. 😆 7y
Bookzombie @Clwojick So it can be books we somehow missed as a kid too? Also, what about ones I read in middle school, is that okay? 🙂 7y

monalyisha @Bookzombie I‘m not reading any I missed as a kid, but it‘s your weekend; you can shape it however you like. I would *focus* on/make the bulk of your list rereads, though, since that‘s the spirit of the event. I think at least one or two of mine were middle-school reads. It all kinda blends. 😉 (edited) 7y
Clwojick @Bookzombie I'm taking it all the way back, and even rereading some of my favourite picture books ( Dr Seuss, Robert Munsch ) then I'll be passing the books along to my nephew. 7y
monalyisha @Clwojick I love that you have someone to pass them along to after! How sweet. Somehow, I don‘t think the only child in my life (an 8-year old boy) would want my Sweet Valley books. 😅 (edited) 7y
Clwojick @monalyisha save them for a giveaway? People went wild over my R L Stine giveaway. 👏😆 7y
kendrastephaniekaryn Ooh! I'll post my list when I get to work. Great choices! 7y
Bookzombie @monalyisha @Clwojick Thanks! My list is rereads, but I just wanted to check. I‘m looking forward to the readathon! 🙂 7y
