The Immortals | Tamora Pierce
7 posts | 15 read | 4 to read
The Immortals by Tamora Pierce, is the story of Sarrasri (known as Daine), a parentless girl with an extraordinary talent. Daine finds a job that takes her and her pet Cloud from her home country of Galla to the kingdom of Tortall where she finds a new life and a new family, and learns that she has the magical ability known as "Wild Magic," which enables her to speak to animals, heal them, and take their shape as well as bend them to her will. She makes new friends with creatures, including the black-robe mage Numair Salmalin, a young dragon named Skysong (nicknamed Kitten), the lioness, Alanna of Trebond, King Jonathan, and Queen Thayet of Tortall. This single-volume omnibus includes all four volumes of the series: Wild Magic, Wolf-Speaker, Emperor Mage, and The Realms of the Gods.

Reading Tempests and Slaughter has sent me back to the original Immortals Quartet. Halfway through and remembering how much I enjoyed them. #tamorapierce #yafantasy #nearlyholidayfime #twodaystogo #oldschoolcovers

I'm thoroughly enjoying my trip down book nostalgia lane. And I'm reading them all in ebook format on my new, large screen phone. I almost feel guilty for enjoying the ebook format so much? 🐾💚📖

More #InternationalWomensDay fun. And again with Tamora Pierce (she's just so good). When I found out I could go back to Tortall, I was ecstatic. More magic and exploring this world was wonderful.

Love this series so much! Out of all the Tortall books these are my favourite!! I never get tired of reading them! Always feel like I'm revisiting a old friend....even if that does sound lame it's still true!

#FunFridayPhoto, Pt. 2: Tamora Pierce is a goddess among women. If she wrote it, I gobbled it up as a kid. Her series are full of no-nonsense strong female characters that face difficult challenges, often societal pressures. They have agency & drive & don't let the patriarchy grind them down. They also love and communicate with animals. She probably single-handedly turned me into a feminist as a kid. 🙋🏻🐎⚔ #ReadWomen

Broke_Girl_Reads I was going to make Tammy my #funfridayphoto too! I was convinced that I'd grow up to become a lady knight for most of my childhood because I loved Alanna so much 8y
BookishFeminist @Broke_Girl_Reads Do it! Tamora Pierce can never get too much love. I definitely went as a knight for several halloweens because of her. Alanna is such a badass. 😊❤️ 8y
literallycait Tamora Pierce is my hero! I miss these covers--I wish I still had my old copies from middle school ❤️ 8y

[DELETED] 2232195534 I read all these books as an adult and loved them. Great, great girl characters! Did you read the series about the kid mages? Sandry and Briar, etc.? Loved those too! 8y
ClairesReads Omg Tamora Pierce was literally my favourite! I LOVED the Immortals the most! 8y
kissxxmyxxconverse YES. VERY YES. I literally just made my parents buy these for me for my birthday since I lost all my old copies. 😂💕📚👍🏻🦄 8y
see.chels.read I agree, this was one of my very formative #girlpower literary memories !!! 8y
Gillyreads So much love for Tamora Pierce! Can't wait for her next series! 8y
WordWaller OMG I HAVE SO MUCH LOVE FOR HER. I never really realized they could be considered feminist but you're totally right! Probably did the same for me as a kid! 8y
kammartinez Oh man, the Tortall books. LOVE THEM. Did you know she's going to be publishing a series about the character Numair? You should have heard the delighted squeals my friends and I uttered when we heard the news XD. 8y
SarahKat84 One of my formative authors. I must have read the immortals series at least 10 times. Fantastic. 8y
Arabiatta Those weren't available when I was a kid but I just bought them for my daughter for when she learns to read (for me). 8y
Aleida I've never heard of these. My daughter just turned seven. Is she too young for these if I read them to her? 8y
BookishFeminist @Aleida Oh, they're great! Your daughter you probably love them. It's been a long time since I've revisited them but I think they'd probably be fine for her content-wise. I don't seem to remember any adult content. Maybe double check with a children's librarian though? I don't want to lead you astray. 8y
