Interesting book about the massacre of an isolated community by a band of Bigfoots. Loved the protagonist's journey and the format (diary entries mixed with interview excerpts), but the novel doesn't dig deep into its themes, especially the society breaking apart aspect.

Great read. Might be a bit too much for people with a light stomach. But the story keeps moving, the characters are great and the fear is real!

This isn‘t the type of book I would normally read, but it sounded intriguing and I gave it a go. I am so glad I did. The story was compelling, the characters were well developed, and I read it in 3 days. The ending was slightly disappointing, but I can see why it ended that way.

Pretty good read. I'd rate it between 3 - 4 stars. Some parts were very exciting and some parts dragged. I got a little tired of the enormity of some of the details, although it was interesting to see how the characters coped with the circumstances they were dealt with.
I do wish the ending was different!

I am actually a little surprised at how much I enjoyed Devolution. I was expecting it to be along the lines of Rant by Chuck Palahniuk but I was pleasantly surprised it was not.

Hoo boy! I love Bigfoot AND violence! Kate and Dan move to an isolated eco-community and very quickly, Mt Rainier starts to make some noise but that‘s really secondary to the aggressive local Sasquatch troop. Told through Kate‘s journal letters and interviews with her brother and a park ranger doing cleanup in the area. I thought this was a lot of fun, things moved along at a very fast clip, and lots of memorable characters. Excellent action too.

I guess 3/4 of the cats are highly invested in some book related napping. Please note how they lay far enough away from me so that I cannot even pet them.

After reading Devolution, this weathervane is terrifying!

I‘m starting to get into the suspense but I need to stop reading before bed! I woke up 2 nights dreaming about lava flows with heartburn and last night swore there was something in the house! 😱 🐱 😆

I had high expectations for this book because of how good World War Z was. I‘m not sure the epistolary style worked for this book. I didn‘t find it believable that the characters would have such extreme personality changes over the course of only two weeks. There were some pretty gruesome scenes, but I never made an emotional connection with the characters so the horror didn‘t affect me.

Sasquatch! Lots of them! Attacking a small group of not-very-self-sufficient humans in the middle of nowhere, Washington, after a devastating eruption of Mt. Rainier cuts the humans off from civilization and apparently disrupts the normal habitat and/or food chain for the freaking Bigfeet (LOL).

Like World War Z (also awesome), brilliantly told through journals, interviews, and news stories. Terrifying, gross, & AWESOME.

I never read Brooks' other books, but when I saw this one come out I knew I had to read it. It took WEEKS for me holding on the library wait list so I guess I wasn't the only one. lol

I really liked the way this was written- comprised of found journal entries, interviews, and other firsthand accounts. It was fiction, but read like non-fiction. Sorta gory but not a full on horror style read.

"I know, 'ration my current events, learn the facts, but don't obsess'."

"I needed facts, not sensationalism."

"It was the psychological aspect, the hyperbole-fueled hysteria, that had ended up killing the most people."

"The world's not going to change overnight. Just breathe, delete, and move on."

All sage commentary and advice that's oddly relatable to the US's current covid era political, socioeconomic, and human climate.

This was FANTASTIC!!! It's full of suspense and intrigue. I couldn't help but devour this. An excellent cast of narrators as well which made it all the more enjoyable. 🤗

Oh man... look what's up next! Another library hold, and I have been waiting for this one. While I own a hardcover (signed) copy, I've heard a lot of good reviews about the audiobook. Here we go!

I love some good cryptozoology. The telling of the story through journals and interviews enhances the eeriness. This was a fun, and suspenseful, gory summer read. The research Brooks does is my favorite part of his books. The last couple of chapters were a 5/5.

Wonderful horror book set on Mr Rainer. Sasquatches and volcanic eruptions make for a thrilling setup, and while not quite as good as “World War Z” it‘s still a really solid story.

First, hey all. I have been suffering major loss of focus with the pandemic and have not been around at all. I am still working (at home) and doing puzzles on my phone. But maybe this book got me out of the reading slump. It's somewhat like WWZ in that it's presented as true--kind of like the found footage book version. With Bigfoot. And I loved it. Worth the read for sure, if you like that sort of stuff.

🎧 I have 5 versions of WWZ & I never got farther than chapter 3. I LOVE Z-Lit so this is remarkable. Luckily my hopes were not high for this book! The first half is boring, only listened as I was multitasking! The main character is unlikeable. The horror that emerges in the 2nd half was good but too little too late. An awesome premise that shoulda rocked. The narration was AMAZING, still didn‘t save it for me. Glad I didn‘t buy it. TY Libby! ⭐️⭐️

First of all, Max Books is a freaking genius. You would expect a title like World War Z or anything with Sasquatch in it to be nonstop action, but they're not. They're incredibly detailed, well-researched, and remarkably (terrifyingly) believable.

Secondly, listen to the full cast recordings of both these books! So good!! I'm only halfway through Devolution and I'm already dreading the fact that I'll be finished soon 😭

One of my favorite books ever is War World Z. Many years have since passed, and sometimes, things would happen in the world where I would think back to WWZ and wonder-How did he know that? I have to admit I had my hopes up that Devolution made it as a #botm selection. Oh well, passing this month. Thanks to Stuck in the Stacks I now have a new book for my wishlist
