1 I enjoy all Historical fiction, from a whole range of time frames.I tend to read a lot ofRoman and Roman BritainFiction, some which is more than 2000 years old,but also some that isn‘t.

2.I recommend any work by Ben Kane, but especially the Forgotten Legion Trilogy, and the tagged book, which is the first of a Trilogy based on Cicero born 3rd January 106 BCE.

Here was my 2nd book in #MayMadness @Andrew65 + really enjoyable. A bk about how cicero emerges as the great political figure in the Roman Republic. It rds like a thriller + is v readable + extremely interesting, a lot of intrigue bringing the senate to life.
I'll rd later + raise a toast to a lovely lady jenny @ReadingEnvy after the horrible news this wk. I listened to her for yrs + was lucky to talk to her virtually on the show in 2020. V v sad

Harris, via his narrator Tiro, Cicero's slave and confidential secretary, plunges us headlong into the morass of corruption and intrigue that was Late Republican politics and it's a page-turner from the off. Many memorable characters, but it is the portrayal of Cicero himself - witty, urbane, flawed, that makes this book such a good read. Laced with deliciously sly humour, this is the very best kind of history lesson.

This is the first Robert Harris novel I have read, and will certainly not be the last. He has written a detailed political drama that is deep, passionate, and full of strange and intriguing characters, most of whom actually existed! From great generals to grand orators Robert gives them all sufficient screen time and the story is driven forward with wonderful twists and turns. And it's the first in a trilogy; I cannot wait to read the rest of them

While reading Harris' trilogy I fell in love with Cicero. He accompagnied me everywhere I went for a long time. I miss him very much ...

I love that at the rural Base Hospital I work at our fabulous volunteer pink ladies have a substantial library for patients and visitors on each floor, plus a mobile service. I often find a gem to read myself 😍😂

First of three books about Cicero, the Forum and politics in ancient Rome. Absolutely loved this trilogy.

I decided to try something different. Historical fiction. I might have struck gold as this was a gripping tale told with such skill. Read many of Harris' books but none of these. Was a joy and books 2 and 3 in the trilogy ordered

Finished the first book in the Cicero Trilogy, as usual with all Robert Harris books this was a cracking read. This book covered the early part of his political life up until he became a Consul. This book helped me clarify the political process in Ancient Rome, as well as giving the precursor for modern trials. It is a surprise Cicero made it given the enemies Cicero made along the way, including Crassus. I look forward to continuing the trilogy.

Started Imperium by Robert Harris, which is the first book in his Cicero Trilogy. Really enjoying it, but shouldn‘t be surprised as he is a favourite author of mine.

Imperium is the first book in the #Cicero Trilogy by one of my favourite authors, Robert Harris! These are historical fiction books set during Roman times. This is one set of books of his that I have yet to read but do recommend his books. #MelodiousMusicals.
How's that for a link between Ancient Rome and Chicago. I love the songs from #Chicago and do love the Chicago story.

Considering the author's rep as a thriller writer, this story of Cicero from Verres to Cataline just wasn't very interesting.

Overall very good, although now I want to read some non-fiction about Cicero to check how closely this book mirrors the actual history.

Out running errands this afternoon and stopped at a Tim Hortons that makes toasted coconut doughnuts. Saved it for my evening tea 😊

For #backtoreading #audiotogo, I had to pick this Cicero series by Robert Harris. I especially loved it because I have a weakness for Roman History. Simon Jones narrates these & he is perfect. I loved the audio books so much I had to have print copies as well (both signed ❤️). FYI, the second book Lustrum is called Conspirata in the US. The third book is out now, Dictator, but I haven't gotten it yet because I know it's going to be a hard read. 😢

Up next. The Fortune Teller left me wanting to read about ancient civilizations, and this has been waiting for me to finally pick it up ever since I got it from the boyfriend on Christmas Eve. It's an attempt at recreating the vanished biography written about Cicero, and the first in a trilogy. Ancient Rome, here I come.

An absolute treat for this long-ago classics major. So vividly reimagined and Harris clearly takes great pains to be historically accurate. It's also surprisingly well written for a legal/political thriller. I'll be moving right along to the sequels - Cicero is a genius, but unfortunately we know his story doesn't end happily...
