The Girl from Widow Hills
The Girl from Widow Hills: A Novel | Megan Miranda
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Last House Guesta Reese Witherspoon Book Club pickcomes a riveting new novel of psychological suspense about a young woman plagued by night terrors after a childhood trauma who wakes one evening to find a corpse at her feet. Everyone knows the story of the girl from Widow Hills. Arden Maynor was just a child when she was swept away while sleepwalking during a terrifying rainstorm and went missing for days. Strangers and friends, neighbors and rescue workers, set up search parties and held vigils, praying for her safe return. Against all odds, she was found, alive, clinging to a storm drain. The girl from Widow Hills was a living miracle. Ardens mother wrote a book. Fame followed. Fans and fan letters, creeps, and stalkers. And every year, the anniversary. It all became too much. As soon as she was old enough, Arden changed her name and disappeared from the public eye. Now a young woman living hundreds of miles away, Arden goes by Olivia. Shes managed to stay off the radar for the last few years. But with the twentieth anniversary of her rescue approaching, the media will inevitably renew its interest in Arden. Where is she now? Soon Olivia feels like shes being watched and begins sleepwalking again, like she did long ago, even waking outside her home. Until late one night she jolts awake in her yard. At her feet is the corpse of a man she knowsfrom her previous life, as Arden Maynor. And now, the girl from Widow Hills is about to become the center of the story, once again, in this propulsive page-turner from suspense master Megan Miranda.

Took me forever to finish this book. It didn't really keep my interest until the last 100 pages. Arden Moyner is the girl who survived. Now, as Olivia Meyer, on the 20th anniversary things are starting to happen, again. Can she trust anyone? What really happened 20 years ago?

😊 Happy Reading 😊

A soft pick for me, this one is a slow burn yet has weirdly addictive writing. As a child, Olivia was swept into her town's drainage system while sleepwalking, yet managed to survive three days and was rescued, becoming a national story in the process. Years of being harassed and judged (she and her mother received a lot of money as a result of the rescue) has led her to change her name and try to escape the pressure of the past. But as the 20th⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) anniversary approaches, Olivia is finding it harder to maintain her anonymity - especially when someone from her past appears in her front yard... murdered.

The whole sleepwalking thing was kind of creepy; it's so scary to think that you can just get up and wander around doing things and not know it. I can't imagine how terrifying it would be to wake up someplace different from where you went to sleep! This added just the right amount ⬇
2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) of unreliability to Olivia's account. The reason that it stayed a soft pick for me is that while the ending was mostly satisfying, I felt like a lot of the secondary characters were just kind of left hanging. I wanted more resolution with some of the other people I had come to know throughout the story. Still, a solid read, and I can see myself reading another of Miranda's books if it comes my way. 2y

Finished listening to this one today! Out of all the Megan Miranda books I‘ve listened to, this one is my favorite. There was more suspense in the story from the beginning which I felt lacking in some of her other books. Olivia changed her name since she was rescued as a child to get away from all the press, but when a dead body from her previous life finds its way to her new life, the race is on to find who killed him. Could it have been her?

I liked how the main character slowly revealed her personality and her trauma. It made an outrageous story very believable. The ending had quite a twist! I would recommend this book if you like mystery/ thrillers.

⭐⭐
I struggled through this one. I almost bailed a few times, but kept thinking that, surely, it would get better. It did not. I found the main character/narrator repetitive and naive. The storyline, which hinged on a seemingly villain-less childhood trauma, just dragged on and on. The events that transpire, 20 years later, make no sense, even after the "big reveal" at the end.
Disappointing.

Finished this book last weekend. I really enjoyed this book. It had some great twists and I didn't see the ending coming. I tend to enjoy this author and have just started her lated book. Sorry my review isn't great. Down with Covid this week isn't helping. At least it's milder than it could have been since I'm vaccinated.

What a well done thriller, a perfect summer read. I read it in one day. It's my first book by Megan Miranda, but it won't be my last.

The twists were impressive, as was how Miranda handled the issue of trauma's potential reverberations throughout one's life. I could see this making a good thriller movie or TV series.

This book was a quick and light read. It was interesting enough to keep me going and finish in a couple of days. I liked the plot of the book, but I feel like a few of the relationships in the book could have been elaborated and that the relationship between Olivia and Bennett should have been resolved in the end. That was my only disappointment. I say a good book for a rainy day!

Finished Megan Miranda‘s latest book, and it ties with All the Missing Girls as one of my favorites of hers. It got pretty twisty at the end, and I love when she leaves parts of an ending open to reader interpretation.

Between a So-So and a Pan.
Maybe it's time that I give up on Megan Miranda. I keep listening to her books thinking in my head...“ I really like this author“...but it turns out that I might be confusing her with Wendy Walker. This book is like most of her other books...kind of boring throughout with not enough pay-off at the end and/or one where the premise sounds interesting but the execution always leaves you wanting something more.

Meh. The plot was ok, but the main character annoyed me. I didn‘t really connect with any of the characters and I found myself just wanting to get through this one. The twist at the end was good, though I figured it out prior to the reveal. I switched between the audiobook and the book, but listened to the story primarily. I‘m noticing others didn‘t like the audiobook, so maybe that was part of the problem for me too. #jpbookreview

I wonder if I would have liked this book more had I read it, instead of listened to it as an audiobook. It was okay, not great had some interesting twists and turns to keep the reader engaged, but I didn't like the narrator and I thought the story overall was flat. I was surprised about the ending, but didn't really feel closure around this book. Meh. It was okay.

Just finished track 10 in the Audiobook, and it's not bad, once I slowed the book down to 1.0x instead of 1.25 it got better. The story moves and this won't be my favorite book by her but it isn't terrible either.

So far 3 stars. We'll see if my opinion changes.

So I just started this as an audiobook and I don't think I like the narrator for this Audiobook. I mean she did a great job for The Last House Guest but I am.not sure she's the right narrator for this book in particular.

Hmm I'll give it up to the first 25% and then make a final decision about this Audiobook. Maybe I should have read this one.

🎧 @Hazel2019 Thank you! Look what I just finished!! 🖤 TWISTS & TURNS! I read/listened to this straight through! The beginning was a little confusing but it quickly became an edge of your seat psychological thriller. A well written mystery.

A traumatized child grows up with no real knowledge of what happened during the 3 days she went missing when she was 6. She‘s running from a past that‘s unraveling in the present.

Fun book! 🎃 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/8

I have to say that I was delighted to love this book, as I was a touch disappointed with the end of Miranda‘s last book, The Last House Guest. I loved the characters, the setting and the plot, but the last few chapters let it down. The Girl From Widow Hills, however, kept its flow and manoeuvred it‘s way to a graceful and surprising finale. Highly recommended.

I have the same problem with each of her novels. The plot sounds so good but it doesn‘t take off until things are wrapping up. The chapters felt repetitive, continued to circled around the suspicious details 😒 and didn‘t start to follow up on them until after halfway through.
