Hijo Dorado
Hijo Dorado | Pierce Brown
In the much-awaited sequel to Red Rising, Darrow has won a place of honor with the governing elite after a fierce competition. He now wears the curved scar of the Golds, but he is not one of them. To destroy the system from the inside, he must become the strongest, most intelligent, and most implacable...the golden son. This is the only way to bring light back to his people.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! It‘s rare but I may have like this one more than the first? Hard to say since they were both so good 🥰 I can‘t wait to see what happens in the next book 😬📖

Pierce Brown is a bloodydamn genius. A brilliant wordsmith. The ultimate creator of worlds. Channelling the Poet sovereign, Homer, while posing those much coveted moral questions and an action-packed plot, Golden Son upped the ante with its breathtaking plot twists, stinging betrayal and political discord. I was enthralled from beginning to end, desperate that my favourite characters survive the bloody warfare. The conclusion left my jaw unhinged.

Daisey I read Red Rising early in the summer and really need to move this one on up my TBR. 4mo
DGRachel This is my favorite book of the series as of book 5. Book 6 has been sitting on my shelf since pub day. I‘m still not emotionally ready for book 6. 😂 3mo

TheIntrovertedDodoBird @Daisey It's a fantastic series! I'm so obsessed that I'm reading them back to back. Every instalment somehow gets better! 3mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @DGRachel I loved this instalment so much, though, I must admit, the third book is my favourite of the series so far! I'm currently on book four, but I read that the fifth and sixth instalments have some heartbreaking moments, which I'm dreading! I'm not emotionally prepared for any more sadness. 3mo
DGRachel @TheIntrovertedDodoBird Book 3 is the favorite of a lot of fans. I will allow it. 🤣🤣 And yes, book five should come with a trigger warning for one scene. I kind of get it, for the plot, but I‘m a little upset with Pierce for including it. 3mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @DGRachel Whoa! I just got a spoiler, and wow, book five should definitely come with a trigger warning! I'm actually glad I spoilt it for myself so I can mentally prepare myself for that scene! 3mo
DGRachel Yeah. It‘s a lot. It‘s why I haven‘t been able to bring myself to pick up book 6. 😔 3mo

Just barely a pick. Not sure why this series is not resonating with me, but I think it‘s the lack of complex characters. I can‘t say this is better than the first one, but I‘m probably not going to read any further into the series. Better than so-so, but still on the “meh” side.

#12Booksof2023 on the 4th day of Christmas my favorite book of April was Golden Son, part of the Red Rising Saga.

Andrew65 Loved that book and really need to get back to this series. I stopped after the initial trilogy. (edited) 11mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book really develops from the first one where the characters go from a training environment to real life civil war. It gets deeper and more painful but it also starts getting somewhere. Slowly Darrow‘s story is shared with friends, he visits his home, you find out who Ares is and who is really on his side. Pierce Brown knows how to end a book on a cliffhanger and I have no idea how it will continue. To book three!

I was not too impressed with this book. I managed to get through it and yes, I will probably read the next one because I do what to see what happens. There were times that I felt confused with who was on whose side. I read it for #NSR23 @Nessavamusic to get another bingo. Did get a spot for #ISpyBingoMay @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks It is book two of the series #SeriesLove23 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

TheSpineView This was my least favorite in the series. Great job for sticking with it. 2y

I took a photo of the edition I read on Libby, where it said 620 pages. Goodreads says 430 pages. I do not understand the reason for the difference. The except for the next book was only 4 pages. #ChunskterChallenge2023 @Amiable

Amiable I wonder if the page counts for the digital versions vary depending on what type size the font is set at? I usually go with whatever the page count is for the hardcover edition when I‘m calculating for a challenge, even if I‘m reading a different format. 2y
LiseWorks Well, since I usually read from my tablet, I will go with what it says. Although the book I'm reading now is a soft cover and it also has a lot of pages lol. I never ever read hard covers as they are too heavy to cart back and forth 2y

Wow I had heard this second book was a big improvement from book 1 and the fans were correct. A non stop action packed continuation of the story of a man who transforms from a Red - the lowest born of the Mars society to a Gold - the prestige ruling class. The first book was more YA and in a training school setting. This one is definitely an adult novel and features the many sparks of all out civil war. ⬇️

Nessavamusic I look forward to the next book in the series. 5⭐️ (edited) 2y

First book of 2023 finished.

I had a hard time motivating myself to read this one but then could very easily pick off 50-100 pages when I did actually pick it up. I did enjoy it while reading and the last 100 pages were amazing.

4/5⭐️

A great start to my 2023 reading.

I was struck with a quote that I related to deeply, we are all trying to chase that feeling of being 13 again getting lost in our first Harry Potter book. The first trilogy of Pierce Brown dang near did that. Mixed between hunger games and space travel I was locked in from chapter 1. Golden Son was my favorite of the trio, intense! Book 4 is on my shelf, waiting.

Book 2 in the Red Rising series, Darrow has made it past the tests from the first book and finds himself in a series of other tests to gain leadership amongst the golds.

For me, this book dragged a little bit in the middle like the author could not figure out what needed to happen but the ending definitely packed a wallop to keep you wanting more.

#thoughtfulthursday @MoonWitch94

1) I play a daily puzzle/word game on my phone every morning. I feel like it helps wakes me up and gets me ready to start the day. At night, I put my boy to bed and hold him for a little bit watching him sleep. His little baby snores and sounds takes all the stress of the day away.

2. I try to, but not always.

3. I need noise. @Texreader that tinnitus is the worst sometimes.

This book is probably my favorite in the original trilogy and I loved it more after reading it again. 💚

Darrow is faced with a tough decision yet again and finds himself the leader of a group that threatens to change everything the Golds have created. The action is amazing in this one and my favorite character, Sevro, has some great scenes.

This book was action-packed. Everywhere Darrow turns, he faces betrayal, complications, and hard choices. It was a good testament to the pain of war & challenges of leadership. At the same time, these characters - including and especially Darrow - spend so much time posturing that it's fairly tiring. It was hard to engage w/the plot at times; yet I continue to find the overall storyline of this series compelling.

rachelm I read the first one and this one and then kind of lost momentum. Let me know if you read the next! 4y

Bk2 of my #SuperSeptemberReadathon is done! That‘s 2 books off my #MountTBRShelvesOfDoom & another 4.5hrs towards my goal of 24 with much enjoyment, well, enjoyed😋Bk2 of the Mars series was fantastic, though not quite as good as Red Rising IMHO. It was still a ride of mayhem, blood & death with betrayal & a big dose of snarky crazy. Thank god I have the next book to read! Need to pick up Bks 4 & 5 though🤔

Spent the weekend camping in remote McCarthy, AK. This was the view from our tent, overlooking the Wrangell Mountains and Root Glacier in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park (the largest national park in the country). I didn‘t get much solo reading done but my BF and I finished listening to Golden Son on audiobook since we had a 12 hour round trip drive. We literally finished the book at 12:30 am as we pulled onto our street!

KVanRead Gorgeous. Was just reading about this park in the tagged book and then saw some of it in the Ken Burns doc series on the Parks. Would love to visit - someday maybe in a post pandemic future 😂 For now thank goodness for books. 4y
