So I‘m about 1/4 into this book and it‘s taking me a while to read it. I think it‘s mainly due to how much school work I‘ve been doing and how much I‘ve been working! (Peep the pink scrubs 👀) I‘m hoping to spend some more time this weekend reading it and hopefully relaxing before Midterms start!

My top book from 2023

Intense teen book. Sadie's drug-addicted mom abandoned Sadie and her younger sister after subjecting them to a string of bad boyfriends, one of whom abused the girls. Sadie's sister is murdered and Sadie goes after the killer. The story is partly told through podcast episodes and interviews.

First half of 2023 winning book so far is Sadie. Lots of good books so far and really excited to see what I read for the rest of the year!!!

This was an interesting book where the predators hide in plain sight. It's the story of two missing sisters, at separate times: one whose fate is known and the other which is unknown. The novel is told through dual narration of a podcast and also the POV of one of the missing girls and protagonist, Sadie. The book deals the effects of childhood abuse, grief, and mothers, and daughters. I read the book, but many suggest to listen to the audiobooks.

Told via a combination of a podcast and the title characters narrative, this is a heartbreaking story of a missing girl seeking revenge. It is excellent, do not be deterred by its YA designation, it is very well written and dark (nothing is shared graphically but it does involve child abuse). I highly recommend the audiobook, it is an excellent production. 5⭐️

The concept of the book was pretty awesome! It‘s about a missing girl told from the perspective of a podcast. For those that like #truecrime and similar genres, you‘d probably enjoy!

This story is truly heartbreaking. The saddest part for me was the author‘s point that girls go missing all of the time. I listened to this audiobook and the format of a podcast investigating their disappearance worked really well. I love a full cast narration and the actor who voiced Sadie was very good, but some of the others were kind of stilted. Leaving the ending kind of open was a strange choice that I didn‘t really like. 3.75/5 stars

This is story about Sadie, her sister Mattie is found dead and Sadie disappears to try to find out who killed her. Her grandmother is worried and ask Wes McCray who decides to find out where Sadie went. He has a radio show so through a podcast he interviews the people involved. It a good story, it has some trigger warnings you might want to check before reading. It had me gripped wanting to know what happens to Sadie.

1. Yes it's always lovely to see.

2. I'm not into any winter sports, but going for a snowy walk would be very nice.

Absolutely loved this dual POV storytelling.
Sadie is hunting down the man that killed her sister and West is hunting down Sadie to save her and has a podcast about his journey. How far will one sister‘s love for the other drive her for revenge?

I really really liked this book. It was very raw and emotional and the main character was so relatable. I loved the two povs and the podcast was super cool so you got everyone's pov at some point. I'm gunna knock off half a start for the ending tho. Won't day why because spoilers, but I didn't like it. 4.5/5 stars.

Absolutely outstanding - hype is real

Absolutely my favorite dual POV story ever. 19 yr old Sadie is hunting the man who killed her little sister. Podcast host West is hunting Sadie, trying to find her before it‘s too late. This book is going to haunt me for a long time

Sadie is about a girl trying to find the person who killed her little sister Mattie. Sadie ends up missing and her surrogate grandmother is desperate to find her. It's told in a dual timeline with Sadie as one POV and West McCray, a radio personality, as the other POV. West is working on a podcast about small towns and ends up hearing about Sadie's story. If you end up listening to the audiobook, it's a wonderful full-cast narration.

This was riveting but very dark. I listened to the audiobook and liked the full cast. But I couldn‘t connect with any of the characters and was left feeling sad by the end.

A difficult one for me to review. I liked the format alternating between Sadie‘s POV and the podcast episodes. The story was just so grim - as it was intended to be, but not what I would normally choose. I couldn‘t stop listening, but I was glad when it was over.

It was a Mystery May for me. Here are the mystery/thrillers I read in May. Have you read any of these? Thoughts? Local Woman Missing was my favorite.

While my kiddo watches Baby Shark, I‘m digging into a mystery.

This was well written, but it just didn‘t click for me. I felt no attachment to the characters or the story. Because this is supposed to be (in part) a podcast, I also had a lot of trouble with how the interviewees sounded like they were reading from a script. I wanted a bit more ad-libbing, some well-placed ummms, etc. to make it sound how people actually talk. I get there issues with doing this, but it prevented me from buying into the story.

Just finished this and it was too riveting for me to put down. The ending leaves more questions than answers but there is one thing I am sure about.

Just started this. Went for an audio-walk earlier since it‘s a nice day out. Luckily Libby had the audiobook available.

What a hard and wild ride this book was, the story went back and forth between Sadie the main character and a local radio podcaster that is looking for her go back and forth telling the story and the ending was a bit open ended??

So I am thinking of an audiobook swap. Here's how it would work:

You'd fill.out a form that asks.you which service you use to get Audiobooks. Audible or LibroFm. Your match would buy your Audiobook (s) on the day of the Opening and they would send you some small bookish trinkets.. maybe some headphones or a Pop socket for your phone or maybe some claiming strips.

So that way you have something to open and you get a new book. Thoughts?

So I just bought two Courtney Summers books. Her newest and her first (I believe?) And I found out that she does podcasts to go along with her books?! Wild! That's awesome.

Sadie is cleverer than it might first appear. Summers lampoons the true-crime trend of middle-class butter-wouldn‘t-melt-in-their-mouths white blonde victims. I knocked it over in a single afternoon. I picked this one up on a whim and was totally intrigued by the whole “if she dies, she takes the truth with her” and I HAD to know if it did or not. The podcast side of the book was a nice surprise and did make me think this would be great as an audiobook (which I did listen to right after finishing the book and it was amazing!) It definitely has a heavy tone so not for the light hearted.

This book left me feeling shattered. It shines a light on our true crime obsession whilst refusing to shy away from the terrible pain of trauma and loss and being forced to survive on the margins of our society. Part of the great power of it is what it leaves unsaid and off the page.

TW/CW for child abuse, pedophilia, drug abuse, and mention of suicide.

Well there goes my #24in48. There‘s no way I can pick up another book after this one. We follow Sadie as she hunts down her sister‘s killer. Alternating that story is a podcaster who is now following up on the disappearance of Sadie, herself. This was dark and disturbing without the really horrific details, thank god. There are some really spot on paragraphs in here about different things that just really grabbed hold of me. Thanks so much,👇🏼

In a span of 4 pages, the voices of 3 people get metaphors.

Trigger warning: sexual abuse. I listened to this book which is done by a full cast and I think it really added to the story. It is told in alternating chapters by Sadie and a podcast host of a true-crime podcast investigating her disappearance. Sadie takes off after her sister is murdered in search of the man she thinks killed her. If you listen to true crime podcasts those chapters hit all the tropes of that genre. #audiobook

Another #NewYearWhoDis audiobook down! This one was on my radar for a while but i steered clear because of the hype. Now wish I hadn't because it's so freaking good! I read reviews on how the ending was unsatisfying but I thought it was perfectly executed and fit so well with the story

Oh, Sadie. Surprisingly deep for a YA read that got me pensive by the end. This ending is a bit controversial but I think it‘s fitting for the final themes, as much as I hate to admit it.
