@Karisimo somehow I missed this yesterday. I had to choose one of my favorite children's classics.
#MiddleGradeMonday a book set at a boarding school.

I think this is the oldest book still on my shelves that was given to me as a gift, the sweet little inscription from the woman who gave it to me is dated May 1992. It‘s long since lost its pretty pink dust jacket, but these gorgeous endpapers are done by the same illustrator and remind me of how the cover once looked.
Listened to the audiobook - this was not on my radar as a girl. But I loved Burnett‘s “Secret Garden” so I gave it a try and enjoyed the story of Sara Crew‘s charmed life…

I read this book in elementary and loved it so much I ended getting a new copy of it when I was an older i had to throw my old copy away due to old age
4✨A little Princess has been one of my favorite movies for a long time. This is my first read through and the nostalgia was amazing to revisit. There is a lot of differences from the movie, but Sara is still the kind hearted girl that I grew wanting to be. I‘m so glad I finally got to read the book and that I got such a beautiful edition.
Silly me - I grew up with the Shirley Temple classic and only recently learned it was a book! Burnett in her typical style shows the reader how to find the magic in the ordinary. The movie was so loosely based on this retelling of Job, having stripped out all of its many layers of meaning. Excellent, excellent.
Book Haul! My kiddos got books right along with me. Excited to get more Bad Guys books along with Spooky reads for #scarathon #teamslaughter 🥰🧟♀️
Continuing my #BookshelfTour with my front hallway bookshelves 🥰
This is shelf 13/21 tagged book is my favorite here and is a childhood favorite 👧🏼

I really enjoyed this and all of Sara's little pearls of wisdom.
This week on my book podcast, we‘re taking it to the classics! Superstar author Danya Kukafka joins me to chat about A Little Princess, the book that inspired one of my very favorite childhood movies. Danya and I discuss the novel‘s cozy vibes, along with its dated, icky portrayals of gender dynamics, race, and morality. We also argue that main character Sara might just be the original manifesting babe! 👑 Listen at the link in my bio.
I haven't been posting much this year-will try to do better. Back in March I posted a pic of the newest addition to our family, Dulci. Here she is today, resting from her arduous job of ruling the roost around here.
23 Sep-9 Oct 2021 (audiobook)
Having watched various film versions, but not having read the book, I was a bit taken aback when Capt Crewe died. Sarah‘s trauma and ill treatment at the hand of Miss Minchin was far more severe and prolonged in the book version, I felt. We subsequently watched the 1995 film and Beatrix became extremely emotional at the captain‘s amnesia and Sarah‘s near arrest. A case where both the film and book have their merits.
Sarah Crewe showed the mantle of a leader, even a modern day woman can relate. She has a resilient and creative mind, that sees beyond the current. She also has an appreciation of what she has and has a big heart to always give back. This book had touched my heart in so many ways especially the last part. A story of friendship and hope. I‘ve always known Sarah Ang Munting Prinsesa but never realized her story is more beautiful than the series.
A odd and intriguing book. 3.5/5 Read for the June #Buzzwordathon - Name/Title
I'm going to finish this book tomorrow. I've really loved it. I'm reading a lot right now, so some of the books won't show up in the currently reading. I somehow missed reading this as a kid. Also, I know I'm late but I'm going to try and get a few pages done for the #MarvellousMarchReadathon hosted by @Andrew65 .
For anyone who has children or is child at heart. This story just warmed my insides.
Currently reading my sister-read, A Little Princess and oh my the book is wonderful so far. Sara is so dreamy and odd and kind and this book is so charming and funny 💛 they have the Audio Book for free on YouTube as well, I listened to a couple chapters while I painted and I really liked it.
Illustrations by Rebecca Green!
Continuing with comfort reads and re-reads in 2021.

4⭐️
This is the first time I‘ve ever read this book but I have such clear memories of this movie that I had such an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. Yes there are the differences but I loved it just the same.

A classic from the author of Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden.
Every bit as wonderful as I remembered, maybe even more so. ❤️❤️ I read most of this on #serialreader but supplemented it with a lovely illustrated edition from childhood.
This brings me to nine classics for 2020 so far, so I‘m well on track for my goal of 24 this year. #classicschallenge2020

This has been such an important book to me from a very early age. ❤️

How about you, @Reviewsbylola ? I saw you posted about this very same book today!
Currently reading this on @SerialReader but will likely supplement with the print version.
I just bought the book on the left because it was cheap and the description said it was illustrated. It‘s not, unless you count the little illustration for each chapter.
I have had the other copy since I was a kid and it‘s inscribed “Summer 1992. Congratulations—you read 10 books! ❤️ Mommy” 🥰🥰🥰
Recent book acquisitions. I knew I already owned a copy of the tagged book—I also apparently already own the same exact copy of A Secret Garden. 🤦🏼♀️
This was a favorite when I was growing up. I haven‘t read it in a very long time but I still really enjoy it. #MiddleGradeMarch @sblbooks @megnews
My #Januaryread #classic books 5/10.

Whatever comes," she said, "cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it.
I read this Jan 18-19 and gave it 4 ⭐️. This was a reread for me. It‘s a delightful if moralistic story. I find the older I get, the harder time I have with the moralistic element but I still like Sara Crewe and her imagination.
#2 This story is about a little girl named Sara Crewe. Sara‘s rich father drops her off at Miss Minchin‘s Select Seminary for girls. While gone on a business trip her father dies of jungle fever while also losing all his money on an investment in the diamond mines. When Sara loses her wealth she must live as a servant in the cold attic. Sara proves that a real princess takes heart and hope not luxuries. This book is a quick read and super cute!
