I have read several biographies of Bronson and Louisa, but did not know May(Amy) was a leader in her passion. Not only growing up with Transcendentalists and being offended by her portrayal in her famous sister's book, she knew several renowned artists of her time. I learned so much and stayed on Google to learn more about May's art. She was very independent and did not want Louisa's monetary aid once she was established.
I took a hiatus on posting due to some travel and am working on getting caught up on all things #PemberLittens! But I had to take a minute to post about the surprise gift waiting for me when I got home - this sweet collection of Louisa May Alcott titles. I've never read Jack and Jill, so I'm really looking forward to that one. I'm fact, I may need to do a full re-read of her works this year! #LouisaMayAlcott #BookishGifts
This cute little novella is about a group of siblings who don‘t have any money on Christmas Eve so go about various ways of earning a little something so they can buy food for Christmas dinner. A little schmaltzy but that‘s in keeping with LMA‘s style. 3.5⭐️

I read this book in high school for two reasons: I had a goal to read all the Newbery books and I loved Little Women.

I bailed on Susan Cheever‘s biography of Louisa May Alcott. It jumped all over the place,time-wise,people-wise,idea-wise.Too much about other literary figures of the time:Emerson,Thoreau,Hawthorne,Elizabeth & Sofia Peabody, Margaret Fuller, etc. Not that they are not fascinating figures in & of themselves,& they did influence Louisa, but it felt like the author spent an inordinate amount of verbiage on people & world events. It just felt scrambled.

4 ⭐. Very informative and easy to read.
This was slow going at first, the Branson Alcott section was a lot to get through, pretty dense, and quite infuriating. But when Louisa arrived in the scene, things picked up and the story of the family, Concord MA and all the historical elements were remarkable. Pretty astounding that Thoreau, Emerson, Henry James, Hawthorne, and both Alcotts were connected and many were dear friends. #MountTBR #BookspinBingo #20in4 @Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks
