Specifically using this edition because of the sad news of Shelley Duvall. I scored 46% in the quiz. Three movie quotes that I love that were not listed:
“Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.” (Big Lebowki) Especially effective when dealing with fools online.
*“Strange things are afoot at the Circle K“ (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure)
& perhaps the greatest of all...
(CONT)

vivastory “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.“ (Princess Bride)

TheBookgeekFrau I Love that you included the Circle K quote!!! I can't pass one without quoting that line 😂😂 8mo
vivastory @TheBookgeekFrau 😂 😂 There's some great lines from that one “Be excellent to each other“ is another favorite 8mo
dabbe Great quotes! I can't believe they didn't make the list! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🤩🤩🤩 8mo

I have been meaning to join in on this for awhile, so might as well now. I took the quiz & I received a measly 30%. I know that @dabbe said name 3 of yr fave movies from the challenge. I am taking this as movies that are not on this list, & there just might be more than 3 movies. However they were all released 2010-2023. I'm not a total anarchist after all. In no particular order.
*Dune 1
*Mad Max: Fury Road
*The Lighthouse
*Hereditary
*The VVitch

dabbe Ooh, great list! I've added some to my “to be watched“ list! Thanks for playing and sharing, and you still beat my sorry 🫏! 🤩🤩🤩 8mo
vivastory *Killers of The Flower Moon
*Pearl
*Moonlight
*Lala Land
*Lady Bird
*Parasite
*Vice
*Ballad of Buster Scruggs
*Get Out
*Whiplash
*Birdman
*It Follows
*Under the Skin
*Grand Budapest Hotel
*Detroit
Thanks for posting @dabbe !

1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die, 7th edition | Ian Haydn Smith, Steven Jay Schneider

I received this as a gift from my brother several yrs ago & although I have dipped into it periodically since, I really utilized it last year as I went through a period of exploring a lot of older films! Some of my favorites watched in '22 that this book prompted me to check out: Pandora's Box, Touch of Evil, Dog Day Afternoon, Lady From Shanghai, The Good The Bad & The Ugly. Also the 50th Anniversary of Godfather was a '22 moviegoing highlight.

I love popcorn, but it is a rare treat for me. My first job was in a concession stand at a movie theater & it wasn't until several years later that I actually regained my appreciation for the moviegoing treat.
Also, if you haven't watched Arrival, please please do so. It is one of the best film adaptations of a short story.

A book I picked up recently, it's so informative, it's about the thickness of a Yellow Pages and heavy af; you could actually fire it out of a catapult and knock down a castle wall! 💥🎬

AshleyHoss820 I have one of the editions and the app! It truly is worthy of the word TOME! 😄 I‘ve found some awesome movies through this list, though! Enjoy!! 6y

A favorite hobby, aside from reading, is movies! I don't have cable & I typically watch Netflix only 3 hours per week. I love movies though. My favorite theater is Alamo Drafthouse. They have a strict no texting, no talking policy that preserves the unique moviegoing experience. They are socially engaged (ie the recent women only screenings of Wonder Woman with a portion of the proceeds going to charities). 👇

vivastory Plus, you can order food & drink during the movie in comfortable chairs. They champion independent films & sponsor Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the states. 8y
RohitSawant Everything about it sounds absolutely wonderful! 8y
vivastory @rohit-sawant It's the best. I used to be forced to wait for at least 2 or 3 weeks after a big film had been released to see it (because of rude people using their phone during the movie). Now, i can go to the Alamo opening day & not worry about it. Plus, their food is pretty delicious. 8y

MicheleinPhilly I wish they would open a location here. We haven't been to a movie theater in 7 years because people suck. 8y
celtichik I hope they drop an Alamo closer to Frisco 8y
RohitSawant @vivastory That‘s awesome. Nothing irks me like people who can‘t part with their phones in the theatre. I‘d love to check it out someday! 8y
Eyelit 💜💜💜 the drafthouse - it's basically the only set of theaters I go to anymore 8y
DeborahSmall Me too, my biggest passion after reading is movies. Hopefully Sam will be going to Queens university Belfast to study film in September. We have the QFT in Belfast. It's a great small theatre ran by the uni. You have always been able to get coffee etc when in other big movie houses here won't allow hot drinks. You can also buy beer and stay after for a few drinks. Sam and I do the Schmoedown on a Friday night if he's not out, he always beats me... 8y
DeborahSmall As I say 'my job here is done' proud to have raised such a wonderful movie buff/geek. He's going to a Big Lebowski showing with his girlfriend at the QFT tomorrow night. I was pissed he didn't invite me so he said he'll take me for dinner and movie next week. My husband thinks we're the biggest geeks 😂🤓👍🏼 8y
vivastory @DeborahSmall Haha Well-done raising a cinephile! I haven't watched The Big Lebowski in far too long. It's definitely a personal favorite. I have also been meaning to rewatch O Brother, Where Art Thou. Noah Hawley is speaking at my local indie next Thursday. I'm going to try to go. I loved his take on Fargo (i haven't watched season 3 yet) 8y
Leftcoastzen @DeborahSmall I'm a Lebowski , you're a Lebowski! Donny ,you're out of your element. 8y
vivastory @eyelit They're the greatest. I saw Wonder Woman there a couple of weeks ago. I'll be returning to see Dunkirk & War For the Planet of the Apes in July 8y
vivastory @celtichik I'm a bit surprised they haven't already opened one there 8y
vivastory @MicheleinPhilly They've been expanding, so hopefully you get one soon. 8y
MicheleinPhilly I would be so happy! I used to spend so much time with my jaw and knuckles clenched because talkers and texters would stress me out so much. I've seen way too many a film craning my neck in the front row in order to watch the film in relative peace. 8y
celtichik @vivastory season three of fargo is great! I'm about halfway through the season. 8y
LeahBergen That theatre sounds great! 8y
DeborahSmall Fargo has been great but I haven't started season 3 yet either. He bought a great Jesus t shirt for tomorrow night. Noah Hawley is great i love Legion!!! @Leftcoastzen 👍🏼😂 8y
Izai.Amorim I'm a great movie fan as well, and I also have a problem with noisy people. When I was a kid all you got was a very small popcorn and those tiny coke bottles. Everyone was done before the ads and previews finished. Now people get two huge buckets, coke and popcorn , and they keep chewing and slurping for hours. It's depressing. 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I am so far away from a Drafthouse, but they sound like a movie lovers dream. I frequent their affiliate movie site birth.movies.death. Also I saw Baby Driver last night and it was incredibly good. 8y
vivastory @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I only recently heard about Baby Driver. It sounds interesting. I will definitely check it out. 8y
Suet624 @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I've heard the music is great in that movie and perfectly timed to the action. Want to see it this weekend. 8y

I swear to god, if I ever run into Steven Jay Schneider on the street, I'll shove all 11 editions down his throat. Makes a good reference book though.
