Good
Excellent. Interesting characters, great setting, mystery (which admittedly is pretty straight forward & I was able to figure out much of it but didn‘t care because it was well told), & high stakes. A judge is murdered, a boy goes missing, & there are a lot of theories & very little trust. Really, really good for a debut. Not sure why I‘ve never read this series but I loved the book and will definitely keep going.
I was looking for a new series to read this summer and came across these ones about sheriff Cork O‘Connor. I feel like I might have read this one years ago but didn‘t remember until near the end. I liked it and plan to read more in the series.
This was the “local author” pick for my book club this year. Good story, but totally dated female characters. Mostly defined by their breasts, hips, and thighs. It was written 20 years ago, but good grief. Yikes.
A darn good mystery in Northern Minnesota. First in a series.
Just requested the 2nd in the series. Enjoyed it so much.

Henry Meloux is the Objibwe shaman and Cork O‘Connor‘s good friend and mentor in the Krueger mystery series - he is ageless and wise.

I just finished a 19-book series by W. K. Krueger and truly loved each one. I‘m highlighting the first book which introduces the setting, plot & subplots, and protagonists in such a way that one becomes quickly invested in the characters and outcomes. I like the idea of the mood board and feel its importance in comprehension and analysis of what we read-thanks for thinking of me ❤️

Krueger's writing is straightforward & doesn't pull punches. His storylines are easy to follow with characters who feel almost universally realistic without hyperbole or stereotyping. Fantastic atmosphere that captures the Minnesota landscape & cultures. Though not OwnVoices, I understand that he consulted with tribal members as to content & portrayals. A fast-moving plot with interesting twists & turns. I will definitely be continuing the series.
Well I already LOVE the first book in the Cork O‘Connor mystery series! So I know I‘ll be reading more. Great characters and plot!

I enjoyed reading this novel. Krueger is no Louise Penny, but I cared about (most of) the characters, the setting is interesting, and the mystery is complex but not ridiculously so. I can see myself reading more from this series.

2nd book of the month and I'm starting to feel my reading mojo coming back.
Really enjoyed Cork O'Connor and can't wait to hang out some more with him.
This fulfills my #Booked2022 prompt of a murder mystery. Lots of murder-lots of mystery in this book!

Finished my first book since January! “Vespertine“ was a really good YA fantasy series start.
“Iron Lake“ is my current read and I'm enjoying this first book in the Cork O'Connor series. So far, I can see myself reading more in this series.
Up next-the newest Havill mystery. I've heard so-so things about this installment but I'm hoping for good things.
It feels so good to be back reading again!
Sometimes this was a little slow paced and the author spent too much time on Cork‘s personal life and neglected the mystery in the first part of the book. It picked up though, and I liked it. #audiowalk
The little boo has grown quite a bit since we first got him. My husband and daughter think he might be part Maine coon. I still have 4 hours left in Iron Lake. #audiowalk
I spent most of the day in a retirement seminar but our lunch break was over an hour so I got to walk at lunch, and then my daughter and I took the dogs from her dog walking gig for a walk. It was such a beautiful day! #audiowalk
I‘ve never read any of William Kent Krueger‘s books before, but this series sounded interesting so the first one is my new walking book. Kind of crossing over a little with my boys from Supernatural — there‘s a wendigo. #audiowalk

Trying to get through this one quickly for a book club tomorrow and I hope I can make it. Wish me luck. It‘s a bit chunky.
I‘ve seen this one pop up on “best of” lists for years. It‘s a good mystery. A disgraced sheriff who has lost his family and his job, stumbles upon the body of a dead judge. He soon realizes everyone in his small Minnesota town has secrets. It kept me interested and I think I‘ll continue the series, but don‘t feel any desire to pick the next one up immediately. The priest was one of my favorite characters.
Listened to this one on audio and really enjoyed! Great mystery with multi dimensional characters.
It‘s been so hard to find time to read lately, took me 2 weeks to finish this one. My first exposure to William Kent Krueger and I do love his writing style - he‘s a great story teller.
❄️ A search for a missing teen begins a series of events that end up unraveling more than one mystery in a sleepy, snow covered town. It‘s a book that pulls you in and makes you want to stay a while. Which is great since it‘s the 1st in a series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 9/20/20
Starting this one today based on a recommendation from @EadieB
Can‘t wait to get into it! 😊

Another fantastic series by an excellent writer!
After reading This Tender Land and Ordinary Grace by WKK I picked this one up at the library (30 minute browsing time) and read it in 3 days. Suspenseful with out being too scary. He is such a fine writer! #minnesota #northwoods #FirstPeople #mystery
The former sheriff of Aurora, Minnesota is at a bit of a loose end when this book starts. A mysterious death and a missing Boy Scout pull him back to his old job. This is a new to me mystery series that I will be reading more of.
A down and out former sheriff finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy. One which has left dead bodies all over his small county. As he fights to save his family and solve the mystery, dark forces are gathering. Great pacing, story, and atmosphere.
Interesting mystery set in the middle of winter in Minnesota. It was a little predictable, but I liked how much the setting played into the story.
It‘s hot as blazes in New Mexico today, so reading a mystery set in a Minnesota blizzard seems like a great way to keep myself cool- and homesick.
Wanted to try a new mystery series to recommend at the shop. This one, set in Northern Minnesota, was excellent - atmospheric, complex, with an engaging principal character. Satisfying plot. I shall definitely be going back for more.
Lots of secrets in Aurora, Minnesota Murder, blackmail, and overall deception. I enjoyed this book but the ending was not predictable. I did enjoy the events leading to the ending though. A surprising death broke my heart though. I recommend this book if this appeals to you.
Determined to finish this one today. What‘s next is anyone‘s guess! We shall see.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed, the plot was engaging, and being from MN I appreciated the setting as well. I‘ll definitely continue to read the books in this series.
A trip to #BEA18 also means a trip to the Strand 👌🏻
15 years ago my mom gave me a book called Iron Lake by William Kent Krueger. I was hooked by the O‘Connor family and the community they lived in up in Northern Minnesota. These stories keep you #reading until the early morning hours, but the characters and the social issues behind their actions are what keep me reading. Yesterday I received 1 of 300 copies of a never published Cork O‘Connor short story. I can‘t wait to share it with my mom.
#tbt to the first Cork O‘Connor book 💙💙💙 Cannot wait for Desolation Mountain in August. #firstinaseries #mystery #thriller #minnesota
I love mystery series with good writing. Some other series favorites are Elizabeth Peters, Tony Hillerman, Dorothy Gilman, Diana Gabaldon, Carl Hiaasen, Craig Johnson, and James D. Doss. ♡

Heading back in time to 1999 to start this suspense series that's set here in Minnesota.
Sam Winter Moon had cautioned him long ago that it was best to believe in all possibilities, that there were more mysteries in the world than a man could ever hope to understand.
I'm a huge fan of Krueger's books as I'm originally from Michigan and love the Minnesota settings and Native American angle in his books. They are light, easy, can't put down books I love for any beach, any day!! #laidbackbooks #augustphotochallenge
#funfridayphoto I'm a big fan of the Cork O'Connor mystery series set in northern Minnesota, where the weather always seems to be a factor.
