Officially added to the TBR pile. Was browsing through some bargain books listed online, and this one caught my eye. We don't get many gladiatrix stories. I'm hoping I'll like this one. 🤞🏻

This is what my kids call a potato chip book. It's fun to consume but not very substantial. I had the feeling that, while the setting was interesting, the action could have taken place with very few changes in pretty much any time period. Actually, it could be kind of fun as a 90s teen movie. In tone it could go either Heathers or Clueless and be interesting. Ooh, or Mean Girls!
I observed a variety of chalk art messages while audiowalking today. Some seemed out of place.
When your #TBRBookcase needs its own #TBRBookcase .... #BookAddctProblems My hubby got me the bookshelf on the right for Christmas, and the one on the left for Valentine's day. (And 13 new books to help me fill the new one!)
🌟3.5
The Valiant started off really slow. I was bored in the beginning and it took me about 200 pages to really get into it. I didn‘t stop reading it because I was actually very interested in the plot and the characters, I just wish we would have gotten to the action faster. I became very invested towards the end and am really looking forward to continuing the series.
I was so disappointed in this book. Great premise, interesting choice for main character, but it just didn't work. Predictable plot twists, see-through characters, the romance...it all fell flat. Plus the inconsistencies bothered me: is it gladiatrices or gladiatrixes? And I found Caius' dialogue completely unbelievable ("call me Cai"?!).
Gave to my sister, of the English medieval history degree. She barely started it before bailing.
Devoured this one! Predictable at times, but a fun ride all the way along, nonetheless! Got me out of my recent reading slump!
Thank you so, so much @tpixie for this delightful, thoughtful and utterly amazing package ❤️. The frozen chocolate 🍫 looks yummy 😋, the scent is so refreshing and the mug is absolutely great! I love that you used local products only. The books 📖 are exactly my taste 😍. It‘s wonderful that people from Kansas and from Germany get to know each other that way!

Oh hell yes! This book 😍😘😍😘😍😘😍😘😍😘
It's just so bad ass! I loved getting a peak at Julius Caesar and Cleopatra too! I loved the sister relationship and the romances and the badass fight at the end! There's so much manipulation! It's just SO👏GOOD👏!
Cannot wait for my copy of The Defiant to show up and omg I am stoked for this to get it's TV show!
Reread to prep for The Defiant!
FEMALE GLADIATOR! Of course I am going to read this. Love all the action and overall was good. There were parts that did hit the mark for me. I am not a big fan of books that have instant love. I am curious what other people think. Do you prefer love at first sight in books or do you prefer relationships to grow?
Some awesome books that I read this week but that didn't make the too 12-ish list

The Valiant is being developed into a TV series.

Lesley Livingstone did an amazing job of keeping me interested in this book. It's true that it is like Robin Lafevers and Sarah J. Maas books:)
Started off good but now it's really boring... I would've DNF it, but I have to know what happens!

♥️📖
What an excellent read! Totally ran along the Spartacus storyline which I thought was fun coming from a female gladiators perspective! Princess turned gladiatrix in a series of surprising events that had you sitting on the edge of your seat till the very end☺️
Starting up again today! Found a reading buddy who's joining me today!☺️📖📚 #24in48 #readingbuddy
#shelfie time! I'd show my shelf too but I don't want to turn on the light 😂 #24in48 #candlelitreading #ambiance
A bout of sleeplessness has got me up late reading. Which isn't so bad when I've got this one to keep me company☺️ #wideawake #candlelitreading #24in48
I didn't sign up for #24in48 this go round but why not participate!! I've been hooked on this book since I got it so who knows where I'll be in it by the end of the weekend!!☺️📖
Found myself a new favorite female character! Fallon is a BA and isn't gonna let anyone get in the way of what she wants!❤️ loving the story and style of writing so far☺️ #lifegoals #dontneednoman #justgivemeasword
Mini impulse book haul. I'm SUPER stoked about the Valiant and The Beguiled sounds really good too. Plus who can say no to $5 bargain books!? 💸💸💸
The majority of these books, I realize, I ran out and bought IMMEDIATLY when they released, and I have read precisely ZERO of them to-date 🙈 ughhh I am so bad about that, which explains why I have SO many unread books on my shelves 😞 #booknerdproblems #tbr
Didn't know whether to rate this one with a so-so or a pick... because honestly it was somewhere in between that. I LOVED the premise of this book and it was enjoyable, there was just something missing that I can't quite put my finger on 🤔I'm glad I picked it up though! What did you guys think of this? It definitely was more unique than a lot of other YA 💙
I waffled between Pick and So-so on this one as I enjoyed it, but didn't necessarily love it. I loved the idea of female gladiators and all the battle scenes were exciting but the romantic subplot seemed unrealistic and annoyed me. I did like that everything wrapped up in the end so that even if there is a sequel, I don't necessarily have to read it.
Finishing up The Valiant while watching Finding Nemo with the little dude.
It was a good read. It was hard for me to get into at the beginning. I found myself complaining to my husband about the handful of disasters Fallon finds herself in early on. Once we got past that, it was good for me. 😊 Lots of action and suspense towards the end.
I'll be buying a copy of this book and adding it to my collection.
Excited to read my first for fun book after my first semester of grad school!
I've got a grumpy little man today while a bunch of teeth come in... but I'm going to enjoy the snuggles when I can get them!
#BarnesAndNoble #bookhaul today ❤️ We went as a family and I just couldn't say no to these two Lovelies 🙌 And as always, a bookmark was a must. #SheBelievedSheCouldSoSheDid
There's not a single book within my reach, and Toby seems to be settled in for the evening...
My husband is working an overnight shift and the baby is having a sleepover with grandma (I can't decide who spoils who here... I get a night to myself, they get time with their only grandchild). I'm celebrating with a drink, a bath, and possibly starting a new book despite that fact that I'm already reading like 6...
I really enjoyed this book which is a relief because I heard a lot of mixed reviews. It didn't end on a huge cliffhanger but there's obviously lots of potential for the sequel which I will definitely pick up. I was not expecting like...Any of the deaths or appearances because I was so interested in the world and time period. I liked the balance between violence, romance, love and hate.
"Bring honour on yourselves. Win. Be valiant."
Female gladiator?! *spikes football* I'm in!
Our reviewer loved @lesley.livingston's #TheValiant and had this to say in their review, "Livingston manages to capture the feeling of ancient Rome perfectly in her novel. Both glamorous and dangerous, Rome serves as an exciting backdrop for an even more thrilling storyline."
"You're all that has been in *my* heart since the day we met. When I sleep, I see your face. When I wake, I long to."
.
This is why real men will never live up to books.
Reading this book 📚 right now! Super good so far. Sounds like the rest is going to be awesome too. 👍🏻
First birthday book shipment had arrived!! (The first seven!!)
I controlled myself while at #NTBF17 this weekend, because I could have picked up a whole lot of awesome sounding books!
I love this book, Gladiatrix are awesome and the story is so cool. I can't wait to read the sequel.
