**** WINNER Best Mystery Romance - 2014 Indie Romance Convention Awards **** Theres more than one secret in the old Blackmoore house. Some have been buried for a long time and some are sitting closer to the surface. Morgan and Fiona Blackmoore enjoy their simple life in the sleepy ocean-side town of Noquitt Maine where they offer herbal remedies and crystal healing for locals and tourists alike. ...Until Morgan is accused of killing the town shrew, Prudence Littlefield. Suddenly the girls find themselves scrambling to find the real killer while they battle a crooked Sheriff, planted evidence, and a long list of suspects that all had a reason to want Prudence dead. Handsome Jake Cooper is new to the Noquitt Maine police force, which is exactly why Fiona Blackmoore doesn't trust him. But with time running out and the evidence against her sister piling up, Fiona has to make a choice - will she trust Jake with her sisters case ... and her own heart? Add in an old mansion on the cliffs of Maine, an attic full of mysterious treasures, and a cat that has the uncanny ability to show up at exactly the right time and Fiona has her hands full proving the Sheriff's accusations about her sister being a murderer are Dead Wrong. This is book 1 in the Blackmoore Sisters Cozy Mystery Series.

I got the first five books in this series for free during one of the Stuff Your Kindle days. This is book one and I enjoyed it. I completed my #SeasonalCozies read while also marking off another #Roll100 & #readyourebooks book. I love clearing titles off my TBR.

Mehso-so

I thought the book was simple yet entertaining. It took me a few hours to read it, but I kept reading it. I actually stayed up late to finish it. I liked how there was romance thrown in, but it didn't overtake the mystery part of the book.
I am curious as to what the other books in the series are going to be like. This one set the stage for them and I expect certain questions to be answered.

I actually read this on the kindle as a set containing Books 1-3 but that version is not available on Litsy. My Mum really enjoyed these so I read them on her recommendation and I think they are a really good entry in the cozy mystery genre.

It is wrong that I sometimes hide out in the bathroom at work to check out my Litsy feed?

readinginthedark 😂I don't know about at work, but I've hidden in the bathroom or bedroom at home from my son for this same reason! 8y

MaleficentBookDragon @Reviewsbylola I was doing that, but the station's GM kept coming into my office and catching me.😅 (edited) 8y

Reading this one simultaneously with The Winter People. So far a fun read with endearing characters.

Okay, so I was exhausted and too restless for my "real" novel, and the book was free. I still can't keep reading anything in which someone "procedes" someone else up the stairs. Lesson learned about the free Kindle books with cute covers.

BarbaraTheBibliophage Lesson I learned from this kind of book: The book may be free but our time is valuable. 9y
ramyasbookshelf It is for this same reason I stopped accepting review copies of self published books because (though I hate to generalize) so many of them were badly edited and full of spelling and grammatical errors. 9y
MaryAnn1 @BarbaraTheBibliophage I was never one to abandon a story no matter how tedious. It took me many, many years to realize what you have stated about my valuable time. Where have you been all my life oh wise one? 9y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Imagineannie Oh boy! I've been learning the same lessons since the advent of free, self-published, unedited books. 9y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MaryAnn1 Whoops - meant to tag you in that last comment! 9y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ramyasbookshelf I agree. When I published in 2014, the bulk of my budget (yes, I spent money to publish) went to editing. At least I'm not guilty of my own pet peeve! 9y
