Mostly Void, Partially Stars
Mostly Void, Partially Stars: Welcome to Night Vale Episodes | Joseph Fink, Jeffrey Cranor
106 posts | 47 read | 2 reading | 51 to read
From the authors of the New York Times bestselling novel Welcome to Night Vale and the creators of the #1 international podcast of the same name, comes a collection of episodes from Season One of their hit podcast, featuring an introduction by the authors, behind-the-scenes commentary, and original illustrations. In June of 2012, the creators of Welcome to Night Vale began airing twice-weekly podcasts. By the anniversary show a year later, the fanbase had exploded, vaulting the podcast into the #1 spot on iTunes. Since then, its popularity has grown by epic proportions, hitting more than 100 million downloads, and Night Vale has expanded to a successful live multi-cast international touring stage show and a New York Times bestselling novel. Now the first two seasons are available as books, offering an entertaining reading experience and a valuable reference guide to past episodes. Mostly Void, Partially Stars introduces us to Night Vale, a town in the American Southwest where every conspiracy theory is true, and to the strange but friendly people who live there. Mostly Void, Partially Stars features an introduction by creator and co-writer Joseph Fink, behind-the-scenes commentary and guest introductions by performers from the podcast and notable fans, including Cecil Baldwin (Cecil), Dylan Marron (Carlos), and Kevin R. Free (Kevin) among others. Also included is the full script from the first Welcome to Night Vale live show, Condos. Beautiful illustrations by series artist Jessica Hayworth accompany each episode. Mostly Void, Partially Stars is an absolute must-have whether youre a fan of the podcast or discovering for the first time the wonderful world of Night Vale.

This volume collects the scripts from season one of the absurdly brilliant Welcome to Night Vale podcast plus behind-the-scenes introductions to each episode. This is my brand of weird and I feel no shame about that. Actually, I feel no shame or really any other emotion…I am suspended in a jar of jelly that isn‘t really jelly, just the consistency of what you know to be jelly. Send help. Or don‘t. It‘s whatever.

ChaoticMissAdventures I used to love this pod! It was so creative. The faceless old woman always gave me the creeps 😂 2w
AshleyHoss820 @ChaoticMissAdventures I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it until I picked this up! I forgot all about Hiram, the 5-headed dragon. The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home! So skin-tinglingly weird! ☺️ 2w

It took me about four years but I finally finished this! I read it episode by episode while also listening to the Good Morning Night Vale episodes for each one. There were many long pauses in between episodes but I got there eventually! It was nice getting to revisit the early episodes and I really liked the short forewords before each one💜

I've recently gotten into the podcast Welcome to Night Vale! It's so weird and fun. I had heard of it before, but didn't actually give it a listen until I stumbled upon a used copy of this at the store. It has transcripts of the first year of episodes and some other fun bonus content. So far my favorite episodes are "A Story About You," and all the episodes with the Glow Cloud. I guess the cover inspired this weeks mani ?

Totally went off-track with my reading plans for the week...

I always enjoyed Welcome to Night Vale, but I'm not good at making a point of actually listening to the podcasts. It was lovely to be able to read the episodes instead. What a fun book! Looking forward to reading the next collection of episodes!

I went to Ikea yesterday and got myself a book cart! I absolutely love it already, it was so nice to move all of my #currentlyreading books into it and away from my nightstand. And it has room for my #bujo stuff too!📚❤️

I read the tidbits for each episode in the book after listening to them on Spotify. I only recently discovered this podcast and I‘m in love! I can‘t wait to keep going with the second book/audio combination.

TheBookbabeblog84 There is a novel by Joseph Fink as well “Welcome to Nightvale”; You might like it if you love the show. I struggled with the book. 5y
wellreadredhead @TheBookbabeblog84 I have that one and It Devours and I‘m definitely going to read them when I start catching up to the current episodes of the podcast 5y

"And now, a brief public service announcement: alligators. Can they kill your children? Yes."

ohyeahthatgirl I love listening to this show, but reading it might have been even more my jam. And the new ones come out very soon! 6y
RebelGrrrl I love reading it because I can process things slightly better and it already feels like the words are sticking more than they do when I listen, but I have to admit, Cecil makes this show what it is. His voice is everything and as a result it's a little weird to be reading rather than listening lol 6y

Today I decided to finally get back to reading the first Night Vale script book and listening to Good Morning Night Vale. I like how I can experience the story again but in a slightly different way than before! #welcometonightvale #currentlyreading #lazymorning

This book collects the scripts of the first 25 episodes of Nightvale. Each chapter begins with a very brief introduction giving a little background in the writing if the chapter or something similar. Fun to revisit if you haven‘t listened to the early episodes in a while. Also a very quick read.

"PROVERB: What has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening? I don‘t know, but I trapped it in my bedroom. Send help."

quote
morevna

"And listeners: Night Vale is an ancient place, full of history and secrets, as we were reminded today. But it is also a place of the present moment, full of life, and of us. If you can hear my voice, speaking live, then you know: We are not history yet. We are happening now. How miraculous is that? Goodnight, listeners. Goodnight."

quote
morevna

"We did not back down. We stood eye to eye with violence and it blinked first. Stand proud, Night Vale. Be afraid on the inside, of course. You are, after all, your own downfall. But stand proud against those predators that would harm your family."

quote
morevna

"Dear listeners, stay tuned next for a live broadcast of a man locked in a recording booth, silently staring at the microphone with intense suspicion. And, as always, since always, and for always: Goodnight, Night Vale. Goodnight."

I haven‘t actually listened to Night Vale in a very long time but I‘m revisiting my 2013 self‘s deep love for the podcast by reading the first script book 💜

I just do not believe violence is ever the answer. (It is a question. The real answer is far more terrifying.)

Oh yeah! I already read a book that works for #litsyAtoZ #letterF! These compilations of the first two seasons of Welcome to Night Vale podcast episodes (with commentary before EACH ONE) are amazing. You can't beat listening to the podcast, but this is a great way to catch another layer of understanding and get genius background info on the podcast, process, and people. A million stars to these wonderful weirdos. #recommendsday

This was so great! I love reading the episodes rather than listening to the podcast. For some reason, I just can't pay attention to audio books or podcasts, so this format is much better for me. If you have the same issue and you want to see what Welcome to Nightvale is all about, then I highly recommend this book. If you're already a fan, then this is a great way to revisit the older episodes.

Got in another argument with my mother over politics (I will not start, but let me just say she needs to get out of her own head more because the voices in it seem to be the only ones she is listening to) so I bought myself this pretty. I am definitely considering a welcome to Nightvale tattoo for my 27th bday

This last paragraph from Cecil about the live show just speaks to me in ways that Nightvale has always spoken to me. ---------- My mother died last week and I was just now able to be in my home with my cats and boy and feel things I needed to feel. And this observation just blew me away.

Leniverse My condolences. 8y

Sometimes the best/only therapy is laughter.

Leniverse You're reading the episodes? I don't know... It wouldn't be the same without Cecil's voice in my ear. He has a great radio voice. Actually, reading the excerpt I can hear his voice in my mind, so that kinda works. 8y
Brenley @Leniverse yeah I've listened to most of the beginning episodes multiple times so I can hear Cecil's voice most of the time. I really like the intros by Fink and Cranor at the beginning of each episode in here. It's cool to here some behind the scenes writer stuff. 8y
Leniverse Aha, the book provides extras! Ok, yes, that's a hook. Lol 8y
