pickThe author takes the reader on a journey through the late years of Monet‘s life while living and painting in Giverny. Since Monet was dear friends with a politician and the war was occurring, much of the book includes these topics. The author writes about Monet‘s painting, gardens, family, losses, and appetite for food and wine. I‘m always fascinated to learn about people from the past and this book did not disappoint. #MountTBR
The Christmas book haul! (My stack is under a for tall this year because I also asked for a lot of art supplies, lol.) I've already started Mad Enchantment, and so far it's fantastic.
pickFunny how things happen. My cousin in Boston read this for her book club and told me. I researched it here in Perth and found it in our library system. Just finished it. Great reading. Such wonderful research pulled together in a very readable book. I've been to Monets garden. A real highlight in my life. This book filled in the gaps. Highly recommend. @MrsMalaprop

bailedI wanted to love this book, but it's just too heavy and the writing too dry. There are some charming details about Monet included. And lots about French politics and the carnage of World War I.
I'm not ruling out another try, and I did get to 30% so I'll review what I can for NetGalley.
Having trouble getting into either of these today. I'm about 3% into the Monet book - I'll give it until 10-15% before bailing. I'll probably finish Labyrinth - at 36% already. And of course it could be me!
panThis was an exhausting read. Information was constantly restated to the point that I desperately wanted to bail. I only finished it because I love Monet and wanted to know more about his life. I would only recommend this to someone who desperately loves Monet.
Nyx the eyeless library cat and I are teleworking today. Ross King's new book about Monet is published in Sept. Our first impression (heh) is very good.
