The narrative alternates between Justine Evans (1999),and her great aunt Lucy‘s story (1935) this was a slow but steady story of loyalty between sisters Lilith, Lucy, and Emily. It revolves around there atmospheric summers in the 1930s at the lake house in Minnesota, adolescence, and summer friends, but the author builds a subtle but mysterious and dark story . #EasterExtravaganza @Andrew65
So the writing itself was really good, however, it was a slow read for me and I had a hard time connecting with the characters and unsure the point at times of the stories… but the writing was really what was keeping me hanging on. The end was a surprise to me! Also I hated the way she connected faith and prayer to this awful father, like tainting religion like this to child abuse and like prayer makes that okay to him. That was icky I felt.
