Enjoyed this a lot, read very quickly and lots of twists and turns throughout.

So the writing itself was really good, however, it was a slow read for me and I had a hard time connecting with the characters and unsure the point at times of the stories… but the writing was really what was keeping me hanging on. The end was a surprise to me! Also I hated the way she connected faith and prayer to this awful father, like tainting religion like this to child abuse and like prayer makes that okay to him. That was icky I felt.
Incredible story, loved all the characters and each chapter following their journey - it was hard to put down! I think this is the first I‘ve ever in my life read of an entire family surviving this war like this before and then finding each other years later.
Such an incredible memoir of the authors childhood and what it was like for him growing up in Vietnam before and after the U.S. left the country. I could not put this down and re read so many of his stories that were so hard to fathom what that could have been like to experience. It really opened my eyes to what living in communism was like then and so devastating all the babies left behind after this war from Americans. An absolute must read!
I love this paragraph so much it brought tears to my eyes ❤❤❤ being a mother is such an incredible transformation and the journey you go through is filled with so many intense emotions but i wouldnt change it for the world.
