The story is told in alternating chapters between Edie in her 30s and Heather at 16, so the reader hears the story from both characters‘ perspectives and as things happen at each age. I thought this was very suspenseful; it kept me wanting to read to find out what had happened when they were 16, plus what was going on in “current” day and how things were going to turn out. I know I did read this before but had forgotten. It was before I got on Litsy.

I keep getting deja vu feelings like I have read this book before but I can‘t put my finger on it exactly. It would have been before litsy (for me) if so.

Another mystery with an #unreliablenarrarator.

Ok, I'm 5 days late on this one!! But that's kind of the story of my life...anyhoo, I'm tagging my favorite 2016 Book in this stack. It's not popular, but damn #WatchingEdie is the best damn psychological thriller I've EVER read- & as that's my favorite genre & im trained in readers advisory- trust me on that!

A great start to the book. I often feel like this since my children were born.

As I was reading this, I thought that I would end up marking it a so-so read as I was having a hard time with the characters. Edie just seemed so pathetic and Heather is creepy; it was hard to care about either. Things began to change though as I passed the halfway point. I won't say how as that might spoil the nice surprise ending, but I like that the book was unexpected and had a good couple of twists. A satisfying psychological thriller.

Wow! I just finished this book and wow! I did not expect that twist. This story is about two girls trying to find their place in the world where their parents don't pay much attention to them, so one clings to their friendship, while the other clings to her first love. In the end all I can think about is the argument about nature vs nurture. Would the attention and love from their parents have changed the outcome? This story just blew my mind.

Most days I don't want to adult anymore. Take me back to my carefree childhood! 😜

I read this sentence and was instantly reminded of Carrie from the show Homeland!

Yeah, she really should've gotten an abortion...or given the baby up for adoption. Or practiced safe sex. I like that Edie is complex and not the ideal mother.

Oh I don't even know. The rape wasn't needed but ergh. I can't explain my indifference in words.

Listened to this in audio. While I grow weary of thrillers moving from past to present to keep the one event until the end, the change in narrator between the two sections kept it more interesting.

A psych thriller set in London that grabs the reader early on. Edie and Heather were friends in their late teens but, then something happens that keeps them distant for 17 years. Fast forward and Edie, the confident, attractive one is pregnant, alone and a mess when Edie reappears. Heather narrates the chapters about the past, Edie in the present and as the tension builds the reader wonders whose more unstable. An unsettling read.

I've read a lot of suspense/psychological thrillers lately - and not all have been very good. Loved Watching Edie. Edie is a single mother with a newborn. Suffering from postpartum depression, she is finding it hard to get through each day. And then Heather shows up. The history of their friendship is revealed and it's hard to know who is telling the truth and who to trust.

As the unreliable narrator has been abundant in many psychological thrillers as of late, it only added to my distrust and wariness of both women, which I enjoyed.
