#EmmaInTheNight #WendyWalker #BookSpinBingo

One night three years ago, the Tanner sisters disappeared: fifteen-year-old Cass and seventeen-year-old Emma. Three years later, Cass returns, without her sister Emma. Her story is one of kidnapping and betrayal, of a mysterious island where the two were held. But to forensic psychiatrist Dr. Abby Winter, something doesn't add up.

EadieB Looking deep within this dysfunctional family Dr. Winter uncovers a life where boundaries were violated and a narcissistic parent held sway. And where one sister's return might just be the beginning of the crime.
This is a psychological suspense novel about the Tanner sisters disappearance. It is a slow-reveal as Cass comes home to tell the story.
2y
EadieB Cass is an unreliable narrator as she isn't telling the truth. The story is about narcissistic personality disorder and how it manifests in a dysfunctional family. The characters are very manipulative and the plot is one that keeps you reading to the satisfying ending. You just need to read this book. If you love psychological suspense then you will love this book. 2y

This novel isn't what I expected, but I enjoyed reading/listening to it. Without going into spoiler-level detail, I'll just say that I appreciate the nuanced redemption in this book.

It's also my May #bookspin, so the month is off to a solid start, reading-wise.

This was the stranges book I ever read.
One family. Secrets. Lies. Mysterious disappearance of Cass and her sister Emma. But what happend?
We follow Cass as we uncover the truth of what really happend when her and her sister disappeared. She tells the story to Leo, the investigater and Dr Winter's.

@Clwojick
#TeamSlaughter

We read two point of views, one from Cass has she explains the events from the beginning and one from Dr Winter's.

This was a gripping thriller right up to the end. Emma and Cass are sisters, then they disappear. Three years later Cass returns. She tells the police they were kidnapped and have been living on a mysterious island. Dr Abby Winters is a forensic psychiatrist thinks something is wrong with the story. The family is really dysfunctional and with one narcissistic parent. It goes back and forward with story, so we see what led up to the disappearance.

This was my 4th read of 2021!! I loved it. I thought the characters were super well developed, and with that being said, there were a handful of them that I just could not stand. I thought I had a pretty good idea of how the book was going to turn out, but I was completely wrong. Great twist!!

So, this is difficult for me to review because I had such high hopes, but ultimately the thing that gets me with "thrillers" is, "does this make sense?" With this one, it somewhat does but seems so convoluted I cannot imagine it actually happening. There's a lot going on here and it is all very twisty, so if that's your thing, I say go for it! A pick with some reservation. Two sisters are missing; only one returns. What happened to Emma?

Gripping from the get-go. I liked this book a lot and found the pacing, suspense, and psychoanalysis engaging. It did get confusing in the last 20 percent when the story starts to unravel. It‘s not a great sign when I feel the need to reread the last several chapters or read a plot summary to clarify what happened. 8/10.

I don‘t mind not liking my MC, but I want to enjoy my dislike or even learn from it. That didn‘t happen here, and by the end it was too late for me to really care. Rather than a mystery, this was more a fiction within fiction which made the build up - and my reading - seem kind of pointless.

Eh. Not bad but not 🤯. Story of a messed up family where 2 girls dissapear and eventually 1 comes home. Dual point of view told by the girl that returns and the forensic psychologist pushes it along. The girls point of view held my attention a lot better. 👩‍👧‍👧👩‍👧‍👧👩‍👧‍👧 3.5

From the very beginning this book grabbed me and didn‘t let go. I love how this story unfolded slowly but kept a decent pace. Mostly I loved Cass. I related to her and was brought to tears at certain points. Especially when she describes her “scream”. Love love loved this one.

Last year, I read & thoroughly enjoyed Walker‘s latest novel, so I was excited to pick this one off of my TBR pile! Engaging from the start, this book revolves around the disappearance of the Tanner sisters picking up about three years later when Cass returns to her mother‘s house. The other narrator is Dr. Winter with the FBI & she‘s eager to see if her discarded theory proves to be correct after all... I couldn‘t stop listening! #Audiocoloring

This was a quick enjoyable read about a complicated family that appears successful and normal by outside appearances.

The story explores and reveals what goes on behind closed doors as it follows the family, and a psychologist and detective trying to find the truth and a missing daughter and sister.

#Bookspin @TheAromaofBooks Unpopular opinion here.Book is ok to so-so but I enjoyed it.Two girls were missing and one of them return years after, cliché.I liked that story discusses the narcissistic personality & other mental health concepts like dissociation but not necessarily in realistic way or accurate. There were some twists not realistic but they entertained me.3⭐️Books for April Bookspin were in my shelf for ever. I'm glad I read them.

People who have a scream are too angry or too sad or laugh too hard, swear too much, use drugs or never sit still... I don‘t think people are born with it. I think other people put it inside you with the things they do to you, and say to you, or the things you see them say or do to other people. And I don‘t think you can get rid of it. If you don‘t have a scream, you can‘t understand.

I was sucked in to this crazy, dark read right from the start. This is a well crafted story with well developed characters and a story line that is full of secrets, lies, and a toxic family dynamic. It was captivating. While I had a sense of where things were going, I certainly didn‘t guess it. I intended to site down and read a few chapters and read more than 200 pages. That says something. I couldn‘t put it down.

I felt like this book was a little long winded in the story telling and started to skim as I was getting to the end. It was just ok for me but kept me curious as to how it would end. If you like a lot of narrative and not much dialogue then maybe this is the book for you.

Finished the first book for my #BFC challenge but it also fit the #nightorientedtitle prompt for #booked2019

Was an easy read with some real intrigue/interesting thoughts. Some of the writing felt clunky - I‘d have to reread sentences before I caught what the author was saying. The truth/reveal definitely didn‘t sit well with me, but I‘m sure that was the point. Held my attention but didn‘t love it

I didn‘t love this book and I didn‘t hate it. It gripped me 80% of the way and I don‘t know if my ADD kicked in or if the storyline was losing me but either way I started rushing towards the finish line and sort or skim read. I will admit the ending had me SHOOK I didn‘t really see that coming 🤯 I think after I dwell on it and think about the whole story I will give it a better rating

I read this one so fast! I just could not wait to find out what exactly happened to Emma.

Three years ago, Cass and her older sister disappeared in the night. Now Cass is back, but where‘s Emma? And what exactly happened three years ago?

Filled with lots of dysfunctional family drama and narcissism, which I loved. Couldn‘t stop turning pages!
