Completed the Chunkster level for #ChunksterChallenge2025. I‘d give it a pick because it is a story well told (and well translated, if you get the P+V version). I wouldn‘t say it‘s the “greatest novel of all time,” as some reviews call it. It does provide an interesting historical context of its time. And now I can finally check it off my list. ✔️

monalyisha I *loved* this when I read it. But that was over 15 years ago! If I remember correctly, I may have even mentioned Levin in my internet dating profile (something about a “sweaty, lean farmer with metaphysical concerns”?). 😅🥵 7h

Amiable @monalyisha If I were going to pick a sweaty Russian out of the bunch, it would definitely be Levin! 😄 And I also loved Kitty. Anna, not so much. I actually felt sorry for Karenin. Stiva and Vronsky were basically Russian frat boys -- ugh. 6h

Amiable @CoverToCoverGirl The fact that the chapters are all pretty short is basically what propelled me through some of the sections, I'm not gonna lie. 😃 I could read two chapters (i.e. 5 pages) and feel like I'd accomplished something for the day. 3h

The first book I‘m tackling this year for the #AllergicToChunksters challenge is Anna Karenina. I‘m reading it for the #KareninaWinter buddy read, hosted by @TheBookHippie and @Librarybelle . I started it in December, and am woefully behind, but loving it.

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I decided to try and tackle The Last Magician again 🙇‍♀️ I‘m challenging myself to at least a chapter a day (they‘re about 5 pages each). The characters have started growing on me and so far I‘m up to page 173 🎩 1mo

mcctrish I read AK with a book club a long time ago and I only finished it because I got so sick I couldn‘t get out of bed 🤣🤣🤣 BUT I am glad I did. It turned out to be a book I had to finish to appreciate. It will be so good as a buddy read ❤️❤️❤️but once was enough 😉 1mo

I‘m currently on the 4th Outlander book which has 1800 pages on my ereader (so like 900 pages in the physical copy of the book) & have been reading slowly since October. 🥵 1mo

After initially feeling totally unable to distinguish between some of the male characters, I am far enough along to feel as if the characters are within my grasp. Only in pg. 91. I have a free period at work(prep) & I have been rewarding myself with reading this text then while my brain is still working! I am beginning to enjoy this novel. #KareninaWinter

A sweeping panoramic view of late 19th-century Russia and the strict confines of noble women. I was surprised to see that Levin was more like Anna than any other character, and the novel was really about both of them, not just Anna. Though a tragic character, Anna was unlikable at times, but perhaps she wouldn't have been if she had lived in the modern era. 4.5/5

I can‘t believe I‘m actually saying this, but as far as I‘m concerned, Anna Karenina is just… fine? It wasn‘t the dreadful slog I was worried it might be, but it wasn‘t brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same either. Just finished this awesome bookish puzzle 🧩. I have the first lines mug & when I saw someone on here 🤔 post this puzzle, I had to get one for me, and one for my puzzling book-loving friend Sophie for Christmas ❤️🙏🎄.

A sweeping panoramic view of late 19th-century Russia and the strict confines of noble women. I was surprised to see that Levin was more like Anna than any other character, and the novel was really about both of them: both aspired to a life of happiness, but only Levin achieved it. Though Anna is indeed a tragic character, she was unlikable at times, but maybe she wouldn't have been if she had lived in modern times.
