dabbe @Prairiegirl_reading No need to be sorry at all! I completely understand and feel it, too. I guess I look at it as her looking at humanity as a whole entity and not as individuals. It can get truly ugly when it's individuals. As we know all too well. 💙 2w

⭐️⭐️⭐️let me say this is not a book. It‘s a diary and reads like one. That said what a harrowing experience for this poor girl to grow up in those conditions. I had no idea what a powerful young lady she was. She would have made an awesome feminist with her forward thinking. Tragic and important story.

This is my first time reading this. How has it taken me so long? I watched the movie The freedom writers and decided to start it straight away! Wow! This was just so much more than I thought it would be. I loved how progressive Anne is, and a feminist too! I knew that Anne died but it was still a devastating blow when it came. “Will I ever be able to write anything great, will I ever become a journalist or a writer?” Yes you do Anne! ♥️👏🏻

Today, Anne Frank would have turned 93 years old. I have read her diary multiple times, and it‘s one of my favourite books. Today, I want to remember Anne and honour her memory with my wonderful students @Sharv_Sona and @Lovelylottereader and @AnnaSummer7

I have recently discovered my love for Memiors so I may be behind the times. Can you believe I still havent read these! 😱 I hope there is one of these that you all have not read. Otherwise, I would be happy to get something you all are looking forward to not on my list. #LMPBC #GroupV #Round11

rjsthumbelina Out of these, my top vote is for 4y
ImperfectCJ Any of these would be great for me. I have read bits of Anne Frank and I have had a love-hate relationship with Walden for years trying to get through that one, but I haven't read any of them all the way through. 4y
rjsthumbelina But I would be up for any of them. I have read Anne Frank, but not since grade school, so it would be interesting to see what I think of it now 4y

Despite the tragedy of her death and the horrific world events surrounding it, this is a wonderful book which captures the essence of being a young teen. Despite being in permanent lockdown, she thinks and feels much of the things that a 21st century teen does. Her honest and open account of her feelings, set against the backdrop of such an important historical event makes for essential reading. As poignant and relevant today as in the 1940s.

2. Randy Travis. I told my friends that Ralph Macchio and/or Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains) was my boyfriend. Madonna.

3. The end of the Cold War. Tiananmen Square in China

This enduring diary of a Jewish teenage girl who went into hiding from the Nazis with her family for two years, is an intimate account of her experiences, feelings and frank observations. It gives us a glimpse of the everyday fear and horrors of the Holocaust. Yet Anne‘s optimism is inspiring, and her diary reveals a sensitive girl who saw the best of human kind.

Very first page!!! Look at the date ~ June 12, 1942 Anne‘s 13th birthday 🎁 I forgot how innocent and childish this diary begins. Even when Anne discuses the anti Jewish Laws that have been put into effect, its written with such nonchalance, an air of frivolity. And how foretelling “ I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support.” 😢

Crazeedi One of the books that had a very deep impact on me as a young girl 5y

Freespirit I remember reading this as a teen then as a young traveller visiting her house in Amsterdam. It has always stuck with me💕 5y
rretzler I reread when my 17 yo was in middle school - it was required reading for his language arts class in either 7th or 8th grade. By the time my 14 yo was in middle school, it was no longer required reading. ☹️ I would have loved for him to read this book, but he‘s mildly dyslexic and won‘t read unless he has too. Stupid school for changing the curriculum ☹️ 5y
Cinfhen All three of my kids read this book in 6th grade @rretzler @TheNextBook and it really made a strong impression on each of them. It‘s hard to read knowing the outcome @mandi1082 @Crazeedi @Freespirit but it‘s also important to let her memory live on through her words. You would think the world would learn through history 😪 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I read this as a young teen (?) thinking the forties were so so long ago, but it was only 30 years earlier. She would be in 90 now, and quite possibly still alive. Never thought about her like that back then. (edited) 5y
rretzler It is hard to read knowing the outcome, at least for me. When my 14 yo has had to pick books for class some of his choices have been - The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Fault in Our Stars! Even though he liked both books, this summer he told me for his summer reading he wanted a book that wasn‘t such a “downer”🤣 5y
Crazeedi @rretzler wow he is an amazing reader! I'm sure he needs something lighter now for sure! 5y
Cinfhen So true @JanuarieTimewalker13 although soon there will be no survivors left 😢my friend‘s mom was a hidden Jew in Amsterdam from age 5- 8. Her grandmother left the daughter with neighbors. She gave a talk at our synagogue last year. It was heartbreaking but Thank God her mother survived the concentration camps and came back for the daughter. My friend‘s mom lost all the rest of her family, aunts/uncles/ grandparents and her father. 💔 @Crazeedi (edited) 5y
