#Bookrelated

Today‘s section in our #TreeADay reading. My question to you is if you have read the tagged book, any factual history or historical fiction set during WWII how you cannot see the parallels from that time to this? What is keeping you from recognizing how our freedoms are being taken away piece by piece? It is happening again and you are not only cheering for it you are praising God for it. God help us all.

Ruthiella I‘m currently reading Maus by Art Spiegelman and also see the pattern. Particularly in the swiftness. Laws and institutions will only hold up if we collectively support them. 2d
Jess861 The Dutch Orphan was a very interesting book to read at this time. Some spoke up, others didn't as freedoms were slowly taken away. The parallels are scary. 2d
Deblovestoread @Jess861 Stacked! Thanks for the recommendation. 🩷 2d

TheBookHippie I‘ve seen the replanted of this tree by the World Trade Center. I agree with your post… and am just making mine… 2d
Soscha We‘re past the punch a Nazi in the face days. And days of not wanting to be friends with Russian oligarchs. 😒 (edited) 2d
dabbe To add to your thoughts, you made me think of this allusion from my Book of Allusions:
•Bread and Circuses: This phrase was used by a writer during the time of the Roman Empire. He deplored the fact that the Imperial government was able to keep the populace content merely by distributing free food and providing entertainment spectacles, such as the fights in the Coliseum between people or between people and animals. ⬇️
2d
dabbe The writer declared that it was shameful that people could be so easily kept in line simply by receiving “bread and circuses“ from the government.

The term today refers to policies designed to PREVENT UNREST BY KEEPING PEOPLE HAPPY and thus DEFLECTING CONCERN about troubling issues.

How many dystopian novels show us that if you keep people quiet and happy (plugged in like F451), most will do NOTHING to save us all. #ranttime

This was a fantastic thriller. Alex gets an invitation to an exclusive writing retreat with her favorite author. Unfortunately, for her, her ex-best friend has also been invited, and her favorite author is nuts 💚

Been called Katniss twice today when I was going for a Lara Croft vibe. Hunger Games fans please help a girl out to understand? Never read the books or watched the movies. 🙊

Not #bookrelated but I am so heartbroken by today‘s fire at Notre Dame and I am sure there are other #littens that can relate. Paris is my favorite place in the world and never could have imagined that this epic monument wouldn‘t be there forever. I am heartened by the fact that part of the structure is intact and am sure they will rebuild to some extent but still devastating that 850 years of history is gone. 😭

Bklover 😥💔 6y
CollapsingLibrary Do they know how the fire started? I‘ve been following the coverage of the fire but haven‘t heard anything about how it started yet 6y
Rachel_nyc @hjreviews I think they‘re still investigating but as of now are calling it accidental. I‘m guessing the construction going on was a factor. 6y
BarbaraBB It is so sad, so much history destroyed. 6y
Rachel_nyc @BarbaraBB I‘m glad much of the structure survived, not to mention the relics but still so sad to see it with so much damage. My favorite view, from the left bank, will never be the same. 😢 6y

Not #bookrelated, but thought I'd ask on here just in case. I have a job interview this Tuesday for a library assistant job, & after receiving feedbacj from a previous one saying that I needed more confidence in myself, I thought I would create a cd to listen to in the car before it.
These are some of the songs I'm considering, but do any of you have recs for other songs to boost my confidence?
Many thanks in advance!

MicheleinPhilly Raise Your Glass by Pink, Survivor by Destiny‘s Child. Good luck! 7y
