Picked this up on a whim, and was totally pulled back to France. The storyline is captivating and touches on some of the more delicate topics floating around today, but these topics are given balance by descriptions of food and life in this part of France. Although the Bruno books could be read as stand alone, if you want to follow the relationship between him and Isabelle, and also Gigi it is worth following the series in order.

At first glance, you might be tempted to think of this as a cozy mystery. But after having read a couple of the more recent titles in this series and deciding to go back to the beginning with this one, I‘d say the only cozy aspects are the descriptions of food and the rural French setting. The mystery itself is gritty and morally challenging for our hero and the first in a very very good series. Oui! 🇫🇷

I had a lot of trouble picking new reads this week. Multiple times I thought "yes! This is what I want to read!" Only to read a couple pages and then put them aside. So I sent my son to the bookshelf and told him to pick me a book. So far so good! 70 pages in and still enjoying my time with Bruno in the French countryside.

TheSpineView I do the same thing!😋 5y
Teresereading I enjoyed Bruno! 5y

As recommended by @Crazeedi , I looked up these #ebooks which were also previously recommended during #AskALibrarian chat.

I was debating if I should begin with the first title in the series (tagged book) or top up my dose of 'readaboutWine'.
Glad to go with the latter esp when the epigraph is this:

Wine is bottled poetry.
- Robert Louis Stevenson

Crazeedi If you read this series, I think you'll enjoy! 5y

New author/series for me. Enjoyed reading about la profonde France, and the villagers' skirmishes with the EU inspectors. Similar vein to Donna Leon's Brunetti.

What a good book! It‘s not like Louise Penny‘s books, but I didn‘t care. Lots of heart, good mystery, and food descriptions. Love it.

So I‘m hoping THIS book suits my mood. I wish I could remember who was reading this series...I grabbed this based on her review of a later book. I‘m hoping it‘s similar to Louise Penny‘s Gamache series.

Laura317 Added to say: It was @Crazeedi that mentioned this series. 5y
Crazeedi I'm on book 6 of this series! I love it, I hope you enjoy! 5y

Happy, happy birthday @gradcat 🥳🎂🎉🥂 What a fun #birthdaygiveaway

1. Sherlock Holmes (💜), of course. And I really enjoy the tagged series, which is set in rural France.
2. I love my grandfather‘s (Pappy‘s) bourbon slushies: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-Gb6JyHjujKELj33o1RIXw4hij15KIrxpeWQjJEnn2U

You can actually use whatever liquor you wish. You can also add, or use in lieu of liquor, ginger ale or a lemon-lime soda.

Julsmarshall Happy Birthday! It‘s a great day for a birthday, it‘s my daughter‘s 18th today! 6y
Kimzey Thanks for the bourbon recipe and the series recommendation! 🍹🇫🇷 6y

#sunshine #porchreading
The sky cleared today & it was actually warm & sunny. So happy to be out on my porch again after what has been days of rain, fog, humidity, cloudy skies...if it‘s been nice, I have worked late & the sun sets earlier each day😟 Anyway, relaxing with a mystery.

BooksBikes12 very nice place for a day of reading. 6y
Crazeedi I have had this book in my sights for a year! I still haven't gotten it. Did you like? 6y

This was recommended to me when I was looking for a gift for my mom 2 Xmas's ago. Today it is $1.99 on amazon so I bought it. It seems everything time I turn on the tv I develop a nervousness tick... I need to escape!
The synopsis starts "Meet Benoît Courrèges, aka Bruno, a policeman in a small village in the South of France."
This seems like the perfect thing I have been looking for! And it's on sale today! ‪#freshpick #springflingreading

Reading with my buddy Thurston. We just started this book, the first in a series involving the chief of police in a small French village, and we're enjoying it so far. #catsoflitsy #ThurstonPrefersCatRelatedMysteries

Because of work and just a lack of time, it's been a while since I finished a book this quickly. I got this one three days ago and, even with all the Holiday craziness and family visiting, I just finished it. Good, likeable characters and s good first mystery for the series. I think I am going to like returning to Chief Bruno's part of France.

Starting a new (to me) mystery series. I read the two Chief Bruno novellas, so I finally decided to try out the full books.

I really enjoyed this five book series. we had a great trip to this region of France a few years before which made me pick it up. But it's got light mystery detective fiction, a charming lead and interesting supporting characters, romance that is not cheesy. Very enjoyable and I highly recommend.
