The Tower of Swallows
The Tower of Swallows | Andrzej Sapkowski
The Witcher returns in this action-packed sequel to Baptism of Fire, in the New York Times bestselling series that inspired The Witcher video games. The world has fallen into war. Ciri, the child of prophecy, has vanished. Hunted by friends and foes alike, she has taken on the guise of a petty bandit and lives free for the first time in her life. But the net around her is closing. Geralt, the Witcher, has assembled a group of allies determined to rescue her. Both sides of the war have sent brutal mercenaries to hunt her down. Her crimes have made her famous. There is only one place left to run. The tower of the swallow is waiting...

Everyone is really going through it in this 1, but Ciri in particular is back in focus &proving herself as she searches for the Tower.
Still irregular pacing, cliffhanger, multiple POVs & things told from different times, which is not the most cohesive. But was very entertaining.

I love the prequels to the main series, but after reading all the stories before the Ciri ark, I was disappointed in the main books. I couldn't get around to like Ciri or to get interested in her. The Witcher himself doesn't even seem that important anymore. When I was asking myself if I wanted to read the other volumes as well, it was a “Not really“. So for now I'm not going to continue. Maybe later at some point, who knows.

I think this is one of my favorites of the series. The author jumps around in time and jumps between groups of people because Geralt is with his own band of followers from the previous book, Yennefer is on her own, and Ciri started with the Rats, then captured, then with Vysogota and then on her own. This story is just told in a more engaging and riveting way with less of the tedious politics compared to previous books in the series.

Yen and Ciri really go through the wringer in this one. Lots of meaty character moments. Not a ton of plot development, beyond some sequences with Geralt and Yen, but I‘m excited to see what the next book has in store.

This was my favorite Witcher book yet, though that's partly because you get more invested in the characters as the story progresses. This book is a really important transition for Ciri, as she survives on her own without Geralt or Yennifer and discovers new powers. Bonhart the bounty hunter is a great villain.

blurb

The Tower of Swallows | Andrzej Sapkowski

The narrative shifts to follow Geralt, Yennifer, Ciri, Dykstra and several other characters, often flashing back and forth in time. Everyone is trying to find Ciri. We get a taste of Skellige, Kovir, and Toussaint. Crach an Craite, jarl of Skellige, is highly entertaining.

Ciri gets a megadose of trauma in this one. I'm glad that Sapkowski kept the quartet from the last book--Geralt, Dandelion, Regis, and Milva--together in the search for Ciri.

I continue to enjoy this series because it is way more than I ever thought it would be. Political intrigue, spies, battles, real and fictional monsters (kudos to Sapkowski for making this distinction, albeit subtle). TTOS was probably my top of the series: things are happening, moving forward, and his story telling in this one was more to my liking! Can‘t wait for Lady of the Lake!

Love and hate this one in equal measure. Not sure if I'm just wearying of the series, but between the moments between Geralt/Ciri and their respective companions, there's just a lot of gore packed in. Which I can appreciate in many moments, but felt like overkill here.
And following along as he learns how to write women can get frustrating.

This one was just a mess. I really enjoyed the previous book, but ToS not so much. I've made it this far into the series, so I'll complete it, but had this been the first book of the series I'd read I wouldn't continue.

This was one of the more memorable books of the series for me; I really enjoyed how the narrative went between the past and the present and yet somehow I still felt anxious that Ciri would perish, even though, as she was the one telling the story, I knew she wouldn't. The story was really exciting and suspenseful, definitely an improvement on some of the other books that had a slower narrative.

I'm so glad this one focused back on the characters more than the politics. It drops you straight into Ciri's storyline and her adventures. This will show you some of the darkest parts of Ciri‘s journey, and her ultimate breaking point. But from that low dark place, she will rise to take up the sword and carve out the path to her destiny. #fantasy

My sixth Witcher novel. I liked it better than the last, because it felt less like a filler and was less combative. It did meander along a bit. But the shifting temporal perspectives kept the narration interesting most of the time. Can‘t wait to hopefully have them reuniting soon! (+26)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ wow this was a great read 😊 The plot continues to thicken as Ciri continues to seek out her destiny. Add in some bounty hunters and evil sorcerers and it‘s a party 😊Geralt and Yennefer both want to help Ciri, but Ciri helps herself a lot in this one 😊 She‘s really growing on me and I can‘t wait to start the next book 😊 Gus is okay with me reading today I think ❤️

Hey Litsy! It‘s been a while since I posted, but I‘m back and more ready then ever to keep telling you all about my awesome reads!

This Friday evening finds me continuing The Witcher novel series with book 4! It continues to be a pleasing series. Bonus points if you can guess what I‘m drinking while reading! (Hint it is unfortunately a very topical tropical beverage)

In other news, I‘m now a resident of Vancouver! Where my fellow BC littens at?

The story continues. Geralt seeks Ciri, fighting humans more than monsters & undergoing a transformation. Yennefer has put herself in mortal danger, knowing she has no allies. Bounty hunter Bonhart, a vicious and terrifying man, is tracking down Ciri relentlessly and violently. Ciri relates her tale to the hermit Vysogota, who will help her to her destiny, https://cannonballread.com/2020/03/the-tower-of-swallows-a-novel-of-the-witcher-...

While always a key component, this one has a deeper than usual tonal shift in the mid-third (was a little lost on where it was all going, but the cleanly executed climax put us back on track) to deal more with the political consequences of events to this point. Switches between that and some frenetic yet rewarding violence. This volume lands squarely on par with the best of the GoT seasons. Last novel in the series proper is next! WOOT!

Falling a bit behind in posting progress with the series, but I‘m about 50 deep into the next one! Only one left after this (in the series proper) and it‘s my understanding that there‘s one after that, but it‘s a bit of a prequel (and not numbered). Also shown is a new nerdism that I‘ve picked up: making quitter strips in Affinity Designer! 🤓
(That one‘s of all the different Witcher Schools).

I just finished The Tower of Swallows and it was amazing! As some of you know I'm working my way through the Witcher series and I'm absolutely loving it and highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys fantasy. The Tower of Swallows focuses primarily on Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, who is struggling to survive after being seperated from Geralt.

Witcher #6: This is the best witcher book so far. I loved it. So much happens! Ciri is hunted and found and lost again, plots are revealed, villains are being terribly villanous, traitors traitorous, sorceresses sorcerous... Ciri becomes Death. the Elder Blood makes her powerful, and her witcher training a deadly force with the sword. Hunters become the hunted. The ending is magical... and goes right into the next book. Gotta read on... ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
