A tragic fire at a controversial oxygen therapy clinic leaves 2 dead and 3 injured. On trial is a mother, but everyone lies to cover up their secrets. The plot has nice pacing and it kept me engaged with the story. I did want to know who set the fire. I did not like any of the characters and had mixed feelings about the outcome. So a so-so at 3 of 5 ⭐️.
This was a great read, gripping and moving story. It's a crime story and courtroom drama all rolled into one.
I ended up adding this onto my box a few months ago (after not picking it it my original April 2019 BOTM box) … And wow! This was such a unique and heartbreaking read that kept me guessing. Highly recommend if you‘re looking for something different ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Loved my #Bookspin book for #bookspinbingo ! This is a great mystery with wonderfully tense moments of courtroom drama. The exploration of parent-child dynamics, immigration, guilt, and disability politics all make this a unique and richly drawn thriller that I didn‘t want to put down. @TheAromaofBooks #WinterReadathon @Andrew65 @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES
The beauty of print / never need to depend on battery life! IRL bookclub book - already heard back from one of the ladies - she hated it!! This is a re-read for me & surprisingly I‘m liking it less. Maybe because I think I remember the who/why/how ???
I could feel the author‘s personal experiences in this fictional telling - courtroom knowledge, immigrant story, even the hyperbaric chamber with the how/why of its uses. It made for a compelling story. I assume her autism knowledge came from her personal experiences with those parents over many shared hours in an HBOT. I would, however, TW this because there are statements about autism that may be controversial.
Happy geek moment! The author liked my review of her book on Goodreads. 😁 I derive ridiculous happiness from such rare occurances. It always shocks me when authors read these reviews.
This legal thriller hit heavy on many interesting and serious topics: ableism, parenting, child abuse, immigration cultural adaptation, even the use of hyperbaric chambers for alternative therapies. I believed equally that every character and none them could have done it; they were all so incredibly flawed and sympathetic at the same time. The ending was shocking and the process that led to discovery was well formulated.
This book was unexpectedly good. A puzzle and family drama. The setting, a tragedy, including the following court case. There was also some very honest discussion about parenting special-needs children, immigration, and dysfunctional marriages.
This reminded me how much I enjoy legal thrillers.
The twists and turns and understanding the motivation of characters is such a good ride.
I liked how Kim wove an immigrant, and ableism to create a multifaceted story.

Half way into this one and remembering how much I love a good courtroom drama.
I thought this was a well written, well plotted courtroom drama/suspense/mystery. I was really impressed that it‘s a debut novel. I would definitely read the author again. However, it is quite depressing.
Exceptional writing.
Very intense.
Flawed characters that kept me guessing, although I figured out who the arsonist was I didn‘t figure out the why.
My daughter @wideeyedreader has been telling me to read this for months-glad I finally listened to her! It‘s an excellent mystery/thriller with many twists and turns. There was a lot going on here, with court room scenes, what it means to be the parent of a special needs child and the lengths some go to to help their children, to protecting those we love and what it means to tell the truth.
In the end, I'm glad I took my time with this one. There was a lot going on with so many characters and different points of view. The story is about the court case of an explosion at an oxygen treatment facility, figuring out who started the fire. I loved how everyone's full story was slowly revealed over time. This book tackled a lot of hard subjects like having a child with a disability and culturally adjusting after moving from Korea.
I am determined to finish this book this weekend! I am enjoying the story, but sometimes physical books take me so long to get through...

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month and I wanted to read at least one book from an AAPI author. The tagged book is described as a murder mystery thriller with vibes similar to Celeste Ng's works so I'm looking forward to reading. Might not finish by the end of the month but that's okay.
I also picked up one of Gretchen Rubin's books that I haven't read yet. I love her podcast and loved her previous books.
“We‘ve been lying about so many things for a year, deciding for ourselves what‘s just or not, what‘s relevant or not. We‘re all to blame.”
Had I realized that this involved murder and a courtroom,I‘d have read it a long time ago. There was real depth to the characters, and it was an unveiled look at the all-encompassing role of mothers. I‘m going to give these other overhyped books a try this summer. They may just be my cup of tea!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is my temporary reading setup in a corner of my office while we wait to move into our home. I haven‘t been able to read much but I started Miracle Creek a few days ago, and boy are things speeding along! There was so much hype around it that I avoided it, but I‘m understanding the hype! Hope to finish today. The suspense is taking me over the edge! #currentlyreading
This haul might have been excessive... whoops.

Absolutely loved this book. The reveal at the end caught me totally off-guard, but looking back I can see how it would work! Totally recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had a hard time putting this book down. It kept me up until the wee hours of the morning. Its only downfall is that it seemed a bit drawn out towards the middle. Otherwise, the story was very good. I like learning while I read. This book taught me about the use of 100% oxygen to treat many conditions, including autism. The characters were very believable. This new author did a wonderful job on her first published book!

Book 8. I was surprised by how much I liked this book. A well done courtroom mystery about a controversial medical treatment.
Great novel set as a courtroom drama with a cast of characters all with various levels of culpability. Tragic tale focusing on the lengths parents will go to to help their children, centered on a Korean American family that run a hyperbaric treatment center that seemed to help autistic kids. Well written but not a full-on page turner. Still well worth the time.
My pen pal always picks the perfect books. Funny story - I opened this and thought “oh, no! I picked this as a BOTM...can‘t tell Mitch I already have it.” I went to my BOTM shelves and it‘s not there. Searched my other shelves-no book! Turns out, every time I see it in a store, I go to pick it up and then “remember” that I already have it. 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you so much for finally really adding it to my collection! 🤣🤣 (and I love the card 💖)
@bookish_wookish thank you so much!! This chocolate looks amazing! I‘m so excited to eat it up—and the book too! #jolabokaflodswap
The synopsis should‘ve mentioned how slow moving this book is! 40% in and hoping it picks up soon!
The cover of this book has a beautiful #nature scene 🍂🍁
I got this pic at just the right time! 🌅 🌳🍂🍁 No filter needed!

My #BOTM backlog is getting out of control. So I thought I was try to get the audiobook of some of them so I could listen to them instead. It took me a little while to get into this one but once I did I was hooked. It was a heartbreaking story. About how some choices change the course of some people‘s lives forever!

Someone is feeling very needy this morning! Thank goodness for audiobooks! 📚💜🐱📚💜🐱
This was an interesting and sad courtroom drama that took a hard look at what exactly guilt is, and how you measure out the consequences for the different levels of guilt.
I can't imagine a slower, less interesting, less compelling mystery/courtroom drama (although, it seems to me I've said something similar in the last few weeks). I should have bailed, but didn't because several of my fellow bookdragon friends rated it highly. I thought it was downright boring, and that some (most?) of the attitudes in it were appalling (including dangerous, debunked correlation made between vaccines and autism). #unpopularopinion
I am SO EXCITED to find out that my library book club is finally moving online starting in October!!! We haven‘t met since January (our libraries are still closed) and I‘ve desperately missed meeting with my fellow members.
You guys!! I‘m so tearfully excited about this!!
I forgot to post this amazing used book haul from last weekend. I snagged all of these for only $20?! I am particularly excited about Miracle Creek!
Ooh, so good... I loved how Kim slowly dripped new info into the story and how we flipped between characters. Her character development was fantastic and man, the way things unfolded!! I think it‘d have been even better without the epilogue, though.
A slowly paced character study that follows a court case trying to find the culprit of a fire that killed two subjects in an oxygen tank therapy session for autistic kids. Not quite a thriller but the ending and the consequences were so well done.
Kept me interested, but the ending wasn‘t as surprising as I wanted
A compelling legal thriller, full of twists & complicated guilt. I was glued to the page. However, I wish, like other readers, Kim said more about the danger of so-called autism “treatments,” like drinking bleach. These “treatments” are real & kill autistic people regularly & more explicit condemnation could have been educating. Couple this book with some research & you have an important piece of writing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley #bookspin
So good!! This book is about an accident that happens in a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber and the trial around it. The intrigue to find out what really happened makes it hard to put down. But the story is much more than that. I highly recommend this one! #catsoflitsy
