A story about two sisters who navigate family, friendship, and the spirit world while visiting a town with a rich history.
The author beautifully intertwines themes of grief and acceptance, appealing to children facing their own fears.
A beautiful book.

I was transported away with this little middle grade graphic novel. I read it in just a little over an hour. It touches on a lot of great topics but centers around family and honoring the dead through Dia de Los Muertos. I cried.
I love the fictional town it takes place in. The author said it‘s based on Half Moon Bay in Northern California @Leftcoastzen 💙

I love reading this graphic novel this time of year. It‘s atmospheric and touching. I was really tired last night and figured I‘d just read a few pages, but ended up reading the whole thing. Good thing it‘s a quick read!
That was absolutely wonderful. And a wee bit heartbreaking. All of her books are just lovely.

Gonna be catching up on missed posts tonight 😅
Fun yet serious. Wraps up the fears & the hopes that some might have revolving this subject.
Liked how this began in August. Not sure if the author did this intentionally? It seemed to give a silent nod to the more ancient celebrations that honored our dead (July to Aug. OR mid Aug. through early Sept. Celebration For Our Dead. I believe it was celebrated and called?? I'm still researching on these histories).
The art was whimsical & beautiful.
I've read this about three times...always an incredible read!
I have been considering getting a cute #ghost #tattoo so I have a bunch of inspiration in my phone :) they are super cute 👻

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. I will provide no description and no reason for wanting to read it. I just do. Some will be old, and some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

-- GHOST --
by Rainia Telgemeier
The book GHOST is a graphic novel containing the story of a family of Northern California who have a two daughters named Cat and Maya. Because Maya, being the little sister of Cat, is sick with cystic fibrous, the family decided to move to Bahía de la Luna, the girls explore their new homes and meet new neighbors. The neighbors of the place lending them into a secrect about Ghost in Bahía de la Luna.
A great graphic novel for middle grade kids. A sweet story about Day of the Dead, heritage, and sibling love.

This author is amazing! I‘m going to read this in the near future, but using it today for the #ScarathonDailyPrompt “Ghost” @Clwojick
This was a fantastic read for children/young adults. Deals with family, friends, moving, illness, death, culture, loyalty....everything in such a beautiful way.

I‘m trying to finish up the #BBRC prompts I‘d rather avoid, so here‘s #FakeDiversityForUnder16s for #yeahbaby! I think I would have read this differently had I not been aware of the concerns about the book‘s depiction of Dia de los Muertas and the happy Spanish-speaking ghosts of the mission. https://bit.ly/3uZV5CL
The question I came away with, though, was how a young person with cystic fibrosis would find this
Cat's little sister Maya wants to know what happens when you die. She has CF.
This book aimed at a young audience made me feel for Cat and her family, so well done.
Cat and her family move to a new town, and the town turns out to be haunted by spirits. The story explores some heavy subjects- genetic disease, anxiety, fear, and death. A moving story with a touch of magical realism about family, the importance of connection with them in life and in death.

Ghosts gave me my second #BookSpinBingo
I really need to try and get more reading done if I want to finish all these books
@TheAromaofBooks
Riana is quickly becoming a favourite of mine.
This is the second comic by her that I absolutely adore!
Shedding some light on Cystic fibrosis, teaching some Día de Muertos customs and traditions.
I can see why she's won countless awards and I would definitely recommend picking up some of her work.
Don't judge ... It's the middle of winter here so I chose a quick one for my outside read.

I'm not a fan of graphic novels but I enjoyed this one.

A touching story by one of my favorite middle grade graphic novel authors. Cat‘s family moves to a new town in Northern California because the climate is better for her sister, Maya, who has cystic fibrosis.
Raina is not Mexican, so I don‘t know if her representation of Día de los Muertos is a respectful portrayal. I hope so; I loved this book.

I enjoyed the themes of anxiety in this book, & related to Cat as she worried about her sister's health. It's difficult for kids to handle that kind of stress & fear (not to mention the occasional guilt), even for adults. Telgameier does a great job of conveying all this in a super kid-friendly way, while also telling a fantastical story about moving to a new place, making new friends, & refamiliarizing yourself w/your family's culture.
Probably not as light of a read as I was going for, but still a good one that kept me reading.
For those of you who are late to the party, like me, it‘s about two sisters. The youngest of the two has cystic fibrosis, which comes with its challenges for her and the rest of the family. This touching graphic novel depicts the girls‘ relationship, hardships, growth, and acceptance of death while they learn a bit about their culture. 💕 #middlegrade
I‘ve been having a hard time getting back into reading. Every time I would grab a book and sit at the couch Twinky would join me and snuggle up next to me, behind my head, or on my lap. So, it‘s been hard... 😔
Today I‘m just trying something light and fun while sitting at the table instead. 🙂 wish me luck.
Amazing! This isn‘t the first time I‘ve read ghosts but it‘s still good every time! Love it but I think it could have been stretched out a little.
I asked my 11 yr old if she wanted to do a graphic novel read-a-thon tonight with candles and pillows and blankets when it gets dark. Her stack is on the left, so I guess that‘s a big “yes!” I tagged one of Raina Telgemeier‘s books because my daughter reads all of them over and over.

My daughter recommended this to me because “It‘s so good once you start you won‘t stand up again because you have to finish the whole thing.” She was right of course. A very touching book- I‘m glad I was alone when I read it because I teared up at certain places.
