Skyward Volume 1
Skyward Volume 1: My Low G Life | Joe Henderson
21 posts | 25 read | 14 to read
One day, gravity on Earth suddenly became a fraction of what it is now. Twenty years later, humanity has adapted to its new low-gravity reality. And to Willa Fowler, a woman born just after G-day, it's...well, it's pretty awesome, actually. You can fly through the air! I mean, sure, you can also die if you jump too high. So you just don't jump too high. And maybe don't get mixed up in your Dad's secret plan to bring gravity back that could get you killed... SKYWARD, VOL. 1 collects issues #1-5 of the ongoing series from writer Joe Henderson (showrunner of Fox's Lucifer) and artist Lee Garbett (Lucifer, Loki: Agent of Asgard).

I enjoyed this so much that when the library didn‘t have the next one, I just went right ahead and ordered it online.

Normally I don't read graphic novels but looking at my feed a week or so ago I noticed @Tracyantoon's rave review of this book so I decided to give it a try. And I loved it! Really, everything, story, the ideas, what happens in low-G, the characters especially Willa, the artwork. Thank you so much for mentioning this book. Next volumes coming soon at a library near me.

Never used the #litsymademedoit tag before but I think this qualifies.

Tracyantoon Yay!!!!! Soooo glad you loved this as much as I did!! Volumes 2 and 3 are also incredible! 😍❤️📚 5y

This graphic novel was a #litsymademedoit. And boy am I glad I did! Everything about this was fantastic. The intriguing story, strong female protagonist, inclusivity, coloring, and artwork were all top notch.
The premise is that gravity disappears on earth and they must learn to adapt-from magnetic boots to using fire extinguishers in a new way. It also shows what a rain storm looks like in low gravity and how other animals adapt. Fascinating.

BookmarkTavern That sounds fantastic! 5y
TracyReadsBooks Love this comic! All three volumes are fantastic. And, if I remember correctly, it is in development for tv. I may be misremembering but if not, I‘d definitely watch it! 5y
Tracyantoon @TracyReadsBooks I zoomed through all 3 volumes and was sad for it to come to an end. I would totally watch this show! Will keep an eye out for it. Thanks for the tip. 5y
Tracyantoon @ozma.of.oz All 3 volumes are amazing and they are available on Hoopla if your library uses that platform. Highly recommend!! 5y

This is set in a world where one day gravity stops. Very creative and original.

Last year when I was browsing Brandon Sanderson, I came across this graphic novel trilogy. I decided to get it with some Christmas gift cards basically on a whim. I didn't know anything about it. I read Volume 1 in January and Volume 2 and 3 in February. I have to say for a whim purchase, I definitely was happy with my decision. An interesting exploration about what the world would be like if suddenly there was no gravity. Recommended!

Book 8: As much as I love comics, I used to not count graphic novels as real reading, but there is so much more to them. It took FOUR people to produce this volume (Joe Henderson, Lee Garbett, Antonio Fabela and Simon Bowland). It‘s beautiful, a whole world—an earth on which gravity has failed—brought to life. How would we live, grow food? What happens when it rains? Why did it happen at all? Lots of action, but also heart. #30booksin30days

So just as I finished the book I got called into work 😫
It was excellent but it left me with so many questions.... ok so maybe that's a good thing and a huge part of the reason why I've already ordered the 2nd volume 😂

The cast of characters is diverse and lovable, the art work is stunning and the scenes are perfectly fitted to the story.

I devoured this book and cant wait for more!

This is a really interesting concept! One day, known as G-day, the Earth went low gravity. Lots of people died because they floated up into the sky forever. I‘m looking forward to this Black girl saving the world.

Whoa. So fun! Great story & fantastic artwork—I can see why it appeared on so many “best of” lists. Twenty years after G-Day most everyone has adapted to Earth‘s new low gravity reality. Willa longs to leave Chicago, see the world, but that isn‘t happening, not as long as her father refuses to leave their apartment. When she goes to visit one of her father‘s old colleagues, things get even more complicated...and dangerous. Highly recommended.

NCBD was light Wednesday so I didn‘t hit the comic store until today when the tagged book, which I had to order since they were sold out, came in—came across it on some “best of” lists for 2018. Also picked up Shuri #4. Finally, Skottie Young did a variant cover for Bitter Root #3—yes I will buy a comic I haven‘t read if I see Young has done a variant cover for it—so I picked it up as well as #1. I‘ve heard good things so excited to read it too.

I LOVED this graphic novel! The concept was amazing. Willa is a kickass female lead, and she's black, too, qualifying this as a #diverseread. Will definitely be trying to get my hands on the rest of the series! First read for #24b42019 , and one i highly recommend and will be telling customers about! I borrowed this one digitally on #hoopla
