#mounttbr2020 #bookspinbonanza I read this book for #doublespin this month. Really enjoyed this book loosely based on late 15th English royal history, complete with a magical system based on the power of water and a young boy who, with the help of some friends, is trying to escape death as a result of his family‘s treason. @TheAromaofBooks
Looks like 2 books fighting for the same characters; tighter editing would've helped. Could have been a decent 1st effort but Wheeler had at least 3 books published before this. Looking to the synopses of the next 5 books the story seems to come into its own where this book sets up the world and follows our history quite closely. Looks intriguing but I won't be rushing to read them. Irritated me but not enough to throw my Kindle across the room.
I‘m a little more than halfway through now. The writing has been choppy but with the introduction of another child and her explorations with Owen it‘s smoothed out a bit - though why anyone would willingly put their granddaughter into this food-taster/ hostage situation puzzles me.
Tower of London with the needle-like Shard behind it; I assume this is the setting.
I‘m 5 chapters in; off to a bit of a slow start with a child, Owen, as the protagonist. Kingfountain (the capital) has echoes of Tar Valon & Tai-tastigon. King Severn is a facsimile of Richard III
Have to say this book had me hooked from the start. Really good can‘t wait to read the next book to see what happens to Owen and Eve.
Current listen for the work day. Not to bad so far, defiantly keeping me interested. Has anyone else read this book? What did you think?
I read this because of the cover and I wanted to read about the queen's poisoner. Sadly it was a disappointment. It was just really boring. It was told through the perspective of an 8 year old boy and this boy thought, acted, and spoke like a 40 year old man. If you want to write a book through the eyes of a kid, then it needs to sound like a kid. The queen's poisoner was barely in it and didn't do anything. Skip it.
Has anyone read this series? The first is the tagged book and I read it as an e-book so I don‘t have the complete actual book set which annoys me but that‘s ok. 😬
This sounds good...only 99p for the Kindle at the moment. has anyone read it ?
This was a fun fantasy read! Very G rated (as the main character is 8 years old) but it has a good plot, interesting characters, and some fun deception. I will be continuing Wheeler's novels in this series.
It was a bit of a slow start, but I ended up enjoying this one. Love the intrigue and complex characters, especially Severn and Ankarette.
This is a great fantasy book so far! I might be getting roped into another trilogy lol
This was a Kindle First pick that looked intriguing. I loved the political intrigue. Owen who is given up as payment for his fathers treason must go to the kings court. He and the other children are tasked with tasting the food before the King. The Queen‘s Poisoner takes Owen under her wing to prepare him for the game that is to be played to save the kingdom. This is the first in The Kingfountain series.
“Never trust another person to do your thinking for you.” That sounded a little strange to Owen, but he accepted it.”
Stumbled on this fun fantasy read and really got a kick out of the King Fountain series
What to do when your blood sugar won‘t behave? Take to bed with an audiobook.
I couldn‘t follow this story for the life of me and felt bored while reading it which is a terrible feeling as I‘m sure you know. The premise was great but this book was not what I‘d hoped it would be. #kindle #candles #bookstagram
I had actually found this book while browsing kindle unlimited and decided to read it on a whim and was not disappointed. This story is about an eight-year-old boy being seperated from his family due to war and learning that he is blessed by the fountain and has powers. This book made me want to continue on with the series. I think the character development was well done and I love Owen and look forward to seeing him grow into a great leader.
Book haul!!! I couldn‘t help myself! They were all on sale for Kindle, and I was able to get the audiobooks with them for $1.99 each! Lol I‘m weak. 😆💸 #BookHaul #KindleSale #KindleBooks #Audiobooks
I️ have a cold today and my eyes are too watery to successfully read, so I‘m trying out my first ever audiobook. So far so good!
I Loved The Queen's Poisoner I finished the Book Within Day An Half This Book Had Me An Emotional Roller coaster From Start To Finish Which Is I Haven't In Long Awhile It Made Me Laugh, Angry, And Fearful. I Love How That Main Character Is Younger Than Most Characters In YA Evie And Spymaster Made Me Laugh All Through Out The Book This Not Fantasy Adventure Novel Its Story Of Finding Courage, Survival, And Friendship #favoritebook
Very quick and enjoyable series. A bit taken aback that the main character was very young but I have the second book ready to go!
I enjoyed this book. I found it to have some holes in development, and at times it reminded me of parts of other stories, but overall I liked the main character, the concept that sometimes there is neither all bad or all good, and that family is not always what we think family should be. It has magic, adventure and intrigue.
I didn't love this book, but I think it's pretty okay. The story is kind of meh, but I may be tainted by reading Six of Crows right before this. It feels a least a little influenced by Arthurian legend, which is interesting. I liked it enough to start the next sequel.
I really wanted this book to go into more depth with the magic system, maybe the next book will. I am very intrigued, and I can't wait to start the next book in the series!
I am a sucker for an Audible sale. This one is the deal of the day today.
Anyone else love audio books? Any favorite books or narrators?
Reading while I wait for school to let out.
Maybe is just me, but I literally laugh out loud! And this is just one of many in the book!
I love the witty remarks and conversation! The pacing and story picks up in the second half of the book, but the plot twist is mediocre. I didn't fall in love with any of the characters and I felt there is not much character development for Owen, the protagonist.

Was eager to jump into this book. Now, more than half through but feels like nothing much is happening.
"Owen watched as the king prowled around the hall, choosing victim after victim. Age did not spare anyone from his barbed wit. His words were feints and thrusts, always sharp and always ready to draw blood. This is what Owen had to look forward to everyday. To be wheedled and teased..."
