One of my favorite bits
This was a decent collection of graphic short stories, each with an eerie premise. I feel like the art was a tonal mix of classic fairy tale and Goosebumps. My favorite was the final story, “A Nesting Place.” It was the most “fleshed” out and had a concrete premise that I could sink my teeth into (see what I did there…) Some of the other pieces were a bit too ethereal or subtle for me and I felt like I was left wanting more. ⬇️
“She hopped moonlit streams and took in the scent of pale night flowers.“

The cover is fabulous, but I love the title page(s) even more. How ominous that looks, with only three colors and silhouettes.
Current read for Thing 1 who recognised the first story and suddenly realised he's already following the author on social media. 😂

Thanks for the tag @Yuki_Onna ??
? Mystery!
? Haunted House!
? A lot of promising spooky books turn out to be disappointing. The Loney had incredible atmosphere, but didn't fully hang together, for example...
I'm going to go for the tagged because the short story "The Nesting Place" was one of the creepiest things I've ever read!!!
Slade House by David Nicholls also gave me creepy vibes.

I'm charging out of September's reading slump for #Scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash. This graphic novel was beautifully illustrated with 5 spine-tingling stories involving strange occurrences in the woods.
@StayCurious
Picked this up out of my daughter's stack of library TBRs. Again, I don't read a lot of graphic novels but this was super fun. It has 5 short stories with images that could stick with you as well as "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark"
First graphic novel read in a while. It's neat that the author also provided her own illustrations (or maybe it started the other way around), which was definitely one of the highlights. The artwork was immersive and simple, like news comics, Curious George, Matilda; but I liked it included word bubbles. Second and fourth stories were the best, though all were atmospheric, experiential, the collection's strength. Brothers Grimm + Japanese horror
I dreamt I woke up on a boat
A rocking boat
A quiet boat
On a smooth black sea we float
Away, away
away
I dreamt a Captain dressed in grey
I dreamt I wore a long white coat
I dreamt a stone caught in my throat
I dreamt I choked
and choked
and choked
I dreamt my legs were long and pale
made of smoke
I choked and choked
And when I woke I wrote and wrote
as though it might all float away.
And she was awoken by a soft song: I married my love in the springtime,
But by the summer he'd locked me away.
He'd murdered me dead by the autumn,
& by winter I was naught but decay.
It's cold where I am and so lonely,
but in loneliness I will remain,
Unloved, unavenged, & forgotten,
until I am whole once again.
This quick, horrifying, creepy, disturbing, and beautiful graphic novel was just what I needed to start August. Loved it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
(I tried to clip a couple pics that showed a little but didn‘t give anything away… idk if I succeeded, but these images make me remember the stories so I love ‘em!)
Thanks again @TheBookHippie !! ♥️
Ooooh @TheBookHippie what a perfect taste of all things wonderful fall, hygge, & Halloween!! 🎃☠️🫖 The socks are cozyriffic, I love the witchy mug🖤, the tea smells perfectly fallgasmic, & those towels are super cute & ghoulish! Lock the Doors sounds like a perfectly scary read 👻, & I‘m sooooooo happy to finally have Through the Woods, which I‘ve been wanting for forever!! Thank you!! 🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤
And Fangs @paperwitchs for hosting this fab swap!
Where has this been all my life?! Each story has a smooth storytelling and beautiful narration, and the artwork compliments the tone of the narration and elevates the horror. It dialed up the creep and terror factor at the end of each story for me. Worth a read for fans of horror #comics #horror #lgbtqauthor #weekendreading
I enjoyed these unsettling short stories in graphic novel format. The ambiguous endings make it the perfect choice for a Teen Book Club. My favorite selection is “The Nesting Place,” which seems to shout the lesson, “If anything can save you, reading can!” I especially liked the darkly twisted allusion to the bedroom from “Goodnight, Moon” in the conclusion. Heavy on the red, black, & blue color palette. Be prepared for sharp teeth & eyelessness.
I wanted to read more graphic novels this year and Through the woods was one I was excited about. The book has multiple horror stories though I didn‘t find most of them scary but the artwork is really beautiful and definitely helps with getting involved in the story. 3.5/5 ⭐️
These graphic novels short stories were incredibly dreamlike and fairytale-ish. Most of them had dark woods in them in some way, and they were scary in a childish campfire story sort of way with very atmospheric illustrations.
#scarathlon2021 #teamslaughter @Clwojick I‘ll work out points for all the short stories when I‘m at my laptop tomorrow!
A quick creepy graphic novel of stories. I wouldn't call it really scary but definitely creepy especially the illustrations. The stories reminded me of the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series I loved growing up.

Thanks for the tag @Yuki_Onna 😁
1. I would have to say the Cacodemons from the original Doom videogame series... so cute, and yet so evil 😄
Other iconic faves can be found in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad & Trapdoor 😂😂
I also like Vampires. Of the non-twilight variety.
2. The Nesting Place *shudder* 😱😱😱
3. I'd like to read a creepy ghost (or lurking monster) story that actually hangs together by the end. Any suggestions?
“But the prince had an uncle who wanted the throne.“

#notthetaggedbook #shortwork Horror genre. Gorgeous artwork. The artist has a number of her works available as a #webcomic, and her use of space in the computer medium thrills me every time.
Beautifully drawn but oh so creepy! Definitely read it during the day and not alone if possible.
3/5 ⭐
Through the Woods was a nice 5 spooky story collections. I liked all of them except for one story. It was entertaining.
Happy Sunday, Litsy buddies!
I've had a look through my cupboard at some Picks from the past and thought I'd share them.
First up, Through the Woods... a graphic novel that gets its Pick status by containing the amazingly creepy story "The Nesting Place"... this one has stayed with me for years! (1/3)
This graphic novel has 5 creepy short stories. It was a fun way to end my Halloween. I love the artwork!

It‘s been a stressful week at work and I‘m having trouble turning my worry off despite the fact I am off for the next week. BUT I get to dive headfirst in to my TBR while overtime has been keeping me away again a bit. But first, book club read for tomorrow.
The old adage "don't judge a book by it's cover" doesn't apply today, because we are going to be talking about some beautiful book covers. What are some of your favorite covers?

Stunning artwork with simply stories that stick. Subtlety stick!
Five short horror stories put together in graphic novel form. Very eerie!!! I really enjoyed reading this book and I enjoyed the artwork as well. Everything was very well done!
HINT: it's better if you read this one by candlelight 😉 Enjoy!
Meh. it was OK. It wasn‘t really that scary, but I really appreciated the graphic novel format.
Recommended for: eighth grade and up.
Wow, this is a great book! So beautiful, so much atmosphere and a lot of shivers - even though I read it during day time. The pictures are stunning and work without using a lot of words. Loved it ❤️
Fun and slightly creepy graphic novel. I LOVED the art and would find myself staring at the pages just soaking it all in. Out of the 5 stories I think only one really gave me the creeps, but the others are fun just the same.
I really enjoyed this graphic collection of creepy stories.
Interesting plots, nice illustrations, and a creepy imagination = perfect reading time.
Well written short stories that definitely hit the creepy mark. The artwork is absolutely STUNNING. I adored this book to absolute bits.

Short but spooky. :} Much like Edgar Allan Poe's stories, Carroll's are scary and streamlined. #dw2020reads
Hi everyone! Happy Halloween. I just finished reading Through the woods. This book was creepy short stories. It was perfect for Halloween. #litsy #kindle #kindlefire #paperwhite #library #bookgeek
Sleet outside, hot apple cider and spooky stories inside. 🍂🌧️🍎
Decided to re-read this one. Perfect time of year for it!
WOAH! This was a lot darker than I was expecting! Like the brain child of Stephen King & Wes Craven this is some warped, disturbing stuff! Amazing gothic, macabre illustrations that made my skin crawl. Fantastic! #scarathlon #teamstoker
Read this graphic novel story collection last night with the dim glow of amber fairy lights, the candle, and just my booklight. Some great stories, but I think my favorite was “His Face All Red”. Quick and spooky pick for Halloween.
This book was okay, but I wanted more somehow (and not in a good way). I adore the illustrations, and the stories started off really well but then they just sort of stop and I‘m left disappointed. #screamathon
Um... it was okay🤷♀️ I think the short stories were lacking but the illustrations were beautiful. ⭐⭐⭐💫
Well, on to the next 📚
