A thriller with lots of unexpected twists along the way. Some chapters are an actual podcast, which is an interesting way to weave the storylines and characters. With such a focus on various timelines and characters, it lacked character development so I never could form a deep connection to main characters.

My 3 #ROLL100 books for April. These will also be on my #BookSpinBingo list.

#ROLL100 is definitely helping me read down my owned-TBR list.

11 year old Charlie Page & Scott Ashby were murdered 20 years ago in Bristol. A dead body is found in the same location. Are the 2 murders linked? Detective John Fletcher needs to know. Cody Swift, friend of the 2 boys, is now a film maker & he has a podcast to help find some answers. The story is told by using his podcast & flashbacks. The secrets from the past link some of the characters.

EadieB The book is a slow start but full of twists and turns which make it hard to put down. The clever ending was a complete surprise. If you like psychological thrillers then you should read this one. 3y

A novel I picked up on vacation at my grandmother‘s - she enjoys her British mysteries and I was looking for a quick, fun read. I was not disappointed and enjoyed another of Macmillan‘s novels, “What She Knew.” There are multiple characters telling the story of two seemingly disparate murders 20 years apart, but you know they will intersect at some point. You don‘t know who to root for but once you pick a side, you‘ll hope it was the right choice.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed when I think about how many books are out there that I want to read, and how my TBR is forever growing faster than I can scratch them off my list. 🤓 Side note > these are now all added to my TBR. 😝

Texreader Just try to live a long long time. Having a lengthy tbr list should be good incentive! Ahhh, booklovers! ❤️📚 5y

I finished this book yesterday but here is my reading and drinking situation from last Friday night. ? I truly enjoyed the book and I think overall it was good. However, I was not a fan of the "twist" at the end. ??‍♀️ ????

Three young boys are best friends and do everything together. One night two of them snuck out in the evening when they were supposed to be at home with one of the moms who happened to go out drinking. Those two boys were murdered and lots of people blamed the mom that was not home watching them. The third boy grows up and decides to make a podcast about the murders. Once the podcast comes out, so do many secrets in the town.

KaraWines I did not like this nearly as much as I thought I would. 6y

I picked this book because of the true crime podcast aspect, and there were parts of this that I liked. However, I did not connect with any characters and the ending was just not well done.

I enjoyed the different formats this book took, from flashbacks to podcasts and interviews. Everything connected really well at the ending, although I wanted a bit more conclusion but it was still a great read.

Finally, sitting down to read after cleaning house. Hoping this book picks up. A lot of different characters to keep up with, going back and forth between past and present, too.

Maybe I‘m too still distracted to have read this well, but I found it hard to follow at times. I wasn‘t keeping the characters aligned with all of the back and worth, but I still enjoyed it when it finally did all come together. Good twists!

Gilly‘s books are riveting-I‘m such a fan. This one weaved past and present with multiple POV‘s and added a podcast transcript to make it fun. Gilly does such a great job with layered characters. I had a hard time deciding who is the for-real villain among the bunch because they‘re so nuanced. Jess Paige‘s POV was my favorite-she‘s a hot mess at first, but has big growth and lots of depth over the story. And there are twists! Great read.

Reviewed this week for the blog-my 3rd Gilly Macmillan novel. I enjoyed the different turns the story took & how Macmillan wove past & present together through memories, podcast episodes & the POVs of the different characters. A body is found near the place where two boys were killed 20-years prior & their friend is back in Bristol with a podcast focused on the old crime. With Baked Beans on Toast with Smoked Cheddar. Link to review/recipe👇🏻

I‘ve read mixed reviews on this one, but I read it in one day and actually really liked it a lot. I like this author and how tricky she is. I love the twist and the fact that the character you expect to be the good guy isn‘t really. This was a compelling read- couldn‘t put it down.

This book was absolutely riveting from the first sentence! Having reviewed MacMillan's Odd Child Out, I was hoping to check in again with Detective Clemo. But this book, this book was all its own, and in my opinion her best yet (I have also reviewed The Perfect Girl). It was perfectly executed with enough twists to propel the narrative without becoming predictable or clichéd. And any book that mentions Depeche Mode is a winner!
