I agree with other reviewers that the beginning of this book didn‘t grab me at first, but THEN it all starts to come together and there are so many connections and emotions and WHEW. Not a book I‘ll soon forget.

This Printz Award winning [YA] book is an annual reread & one I would want with me if I was stranded on an island. I love that Marchetta throws you into the story trusting you will find your way, that you meet complex, flawed & interesting characters, & that it all comes together in such a way that it seems inevitable (…although maybe not from the first page). I always laugh/cry & today it is my train book.

Although the beginning was a bit confusing and ridiculous with the turf wars, it became something more a few chapters in. It's about life and love, family and friends.

I wish there were more pages about the original five, though, but it was still wrapped up nicely in the end.

I remember love. It's what I have to keep on reminding myself. It's funny how you can forget everything except people loving you. Maybe that's why humans find it so hard getting over love affairs. It's not the pain they're getting over, it's the love.

I first read [On the] Jellicoe Road in 2013 (Kobo). Don't remember much but I know I liked it.

I thought it was time for a reread when I chanced upon this new edition/ cover.

This started off slow with the silly territory wars but this book became so much more. I ended up really loving this one. #24 #2020

Today‘s #SundayShelfie is of some of the shelves housing my mystery collection. (I am one of those who alphabetize by author within a genre.) My shelves also hold a lot of other things—photos, Legos, The Child, a basketball signed by Kenny Battle (my favorite basketball player when I was in college). Might be time to clean them up a bit while we‘re home. Jellico Road, one of my favorite YA books ever & one I reread every year, is front & center.

The prologue is fantastic but overall this YA boarding school novel left me wanting a bit more. As a mom of teenagers, I found the adults behavior unbelievable. 3⭐️ Book 20

This was a really interesting young adult mystery. It kept me guessing until the end and was wrapped up in a very satisfying way.

It wasn't easy to find a book with both green and red on the cover.. I searched all my shelves on Goodreads and this is the only one I found! ❤💚

I stayed up too late finishing this last night. Beautiful writing and little unusual, and all in all a great read.

The start was confusing (or was it just me??) but when it all came together, it was heartbreaking.

Jumping on the #agameoffavorites challenge - hope it's not too late!

One of my favorite YA authors is Melina Marchetta. I adore her fantasy series Lumatere Chronicles and the tagged book is my favorite in the contemporary genre. Her all-time favorite book is Anne of Green Gables, which I also love!

This book has given me an emotional hangover. So beautiful. Loved every moment.

I don't understand all the hype about this book. People said it was hard to get into, but it was worth it in the end. I'm not sure that it was… I thought all of the stuff about the territory war between the three teen groups was really stupid. I also thought the twists and turns were predictable and I figured them out far before they were actually revealed. Not a fan...

It started as a very young adult novel, 2 teens in love but they're in denial, blah blah blah. The same old story that didn't quite sit well with me. The story of Taylor and Jonah is also connected with the story of 5 friends. Now, the story of Webb, Narnie, Tate, Fitz and the Cadet guy (what's his name again) is something that really made me read the book. Their story made me cry.

Having a hard time getting into this one... easy to read but I am not enjoying it ☹️

I went last night to the fall Book Club Bash at my local bookstore, Quail Ridge Books. Their booksellers give two recommendations each during the event, and they do drawings for book prizes. I didn't win anything but I did let myself buy two of the recommended selections. Has anyone read either of these?

Day 11 is Starts with J
Just pulling this off my shelf made me want to reread it. #anditsaugust

This got wayyy better towards the middle and end. But overall it still just felt too abbreviated. Scenes cut off abruptly, not enough time given to the characters from the past, not enough interiority for Taylor, not enough about the war, not enough Jessa or Santangelo or Griggs. The twists were predictable, which isn't bad. I liked the story, it made me feel things, but I just wanted MORE from this book. 6/10 ⭐️

p. 255: This book is hopscotchy and vague. You're half-told things, then the scene ends, then it skips to something else entirely. I feel like I'm reading a book with pages and chapters missing. It's frustrating, and I keep waiting for more, but there's not a ton left now... verdict TBD

I'm starting this book tonight, another one from my #sunmersolsticebookexchange package. I was warned to read it with tissues at the ready!

This was a little confusing a first. As I was reading I began feeling like it was like a masterfully written puzzle. If you are wondering - It is SO worth it to put this puzzle together. This is an emotionally charged book about past present and future. About regret, redemption, reclamation. This powerful book is a perfect example of why I love YA. #youshouldreadthis

A great read, no wonder it won the Printz award!! I loved the characters and the dual yarns interweaving. 5⭐️beautiful friendships!

A lot of interesting plot twists but I'll be honest. I had a hard time getting into this story. I struggled to keep up with the storylines and characters. I can see why it is award winning but maybe it just wasn't in my wheelhouse.

Australian author, and my next read...I'm very late to this game, but better late than never.

It was raw and I read it every chance I got. I'd read it again for sure.

I finished listening to On the Jellicoe Road, but I'm still up in the air about how I feel about it. The characters were all rounded and nuanced, but it took so long for me to actually feel connected to the story. I've read other reviews in which people said they loved it because of how the pieces all came together. I think the writing was good, but I still didn't quite connect the way I like to.
