Demon Crown: A SIGMA Force Novel
Demon Crown: A SIGMA Force Novel | James Rollins
"Bone-chilling." -Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)"One of the best in the series." -Booklist (Starred Review)To save mankind's future, the members of Sigma Force must make a devil's bargain as they join forces with their most hated enemy to stop an ancient threat in this gripping adventure from #1 New York Times bestselling author James Rollins.Off the coast of Brazil, a team of scientists discovers a horror like no other, an island where all life has been eradicated, consumed, and possessed by a species beyond imagination. Before they can report their discovery, a mysterious agency attacks the group, killing them all, save one: an entomologist, an expert on venomous creatures, Professor Ken Matsui from Cornell University.Strangest of all, this inexplicable threat traces back to a terrifying secret buried a century ago beneath the National Mall: a cache of bones preserved in amber. The artifact was hidden away by a cabal of scientists--led by Alexander Graham Bell--to protect humankind. But they dared not destroy it, for the object also holds an astonishing promise for the future: the very secret of life after death.Yet nothing stays buried forever. An ancient horror-- dormant in the marrow of those preserved bones--is free once more, nursed and developed into a weapon of incalculable strength and malignancy, ready to wreak havoc on an unsuspecting world. To stop its spread, Commander Grayson Pierce of Sigma Force must survive a direct attack on the island of Maui. To be there first has always been the core mission of Sigma Force, a covert team forged to be America's front line against emerging threats. But this time, even Sigma may not be able to decipher the deadly mystery, one that traces back to the founding of the Smithsonian Institution. With each new discovery, the menace they hunt is changing, growing, spreading--adapting and surviving every attempt to stop it from reconquering a world it once ruled. And each transformation makes it stronger . . . and smarter.Running out of time and options, Commander Grayson Pierce will be forced to make an impossible choice. To eradicate this extinction-level threat and expose those involved, he will have to join forces with Sigma's greatest enemy--the newly resurrected Guild--even it if means sacrificing one of his own.

Finally finished this one at lunch.
I liked it but didn‘t love it. I‘ll explain why in a spoiler below.
#parkinglotreading

This was my June #doublespin selection. Now on to the next one.

@thearomaofbooks #bookspin

MaleficentBookDragon Wasps!!!!! No no no no no! This book really grossed me out. As much as I don‘t like Seichan that was just too much for me. As usual, too much Gray and Seichan, and not enough Kowalski Kat or Monk. I also now go into each of these books waiting for Kowalski to die, so I‘m tense the whole time. Tell me what you think of the series. 3y
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!!! 3y

My lunchtime reading (currently in my awesome #booksleeve) and some #bookmail to be sent out today. @Roary47
Excuse the messy desk/office. It‘s been a week. 🤦🏼‍♀️

The Midnight Library gave me a book hangover.
And, no one in bookclub liked it as much me.

So now I‘m going with some adventurous fluffy fun for the weekend. The 13th Sigma Force book. Rollins is always there for a good time.

See my spoiler below for my #unpopularopinion on the series.

MaleficentBookDragon Though all bets are off if he kills off Kowsalski , Kat, or Monk. I‘m still not over Rachel. Why not get rid of Seichan? Wishful thinking. I really dislike her and Gray. They are soooo annoying. Rant over. (edited) 4y
Texreader Wait what? People don‘t like James Rollins? How is that possible! Ok some of his books are better than others... 4y

I mixed up my #Bookspin choices for April because I'm such a mood reader.
I'm also in for a #doublespin and #triplespin
@TheAromaofBooks
3 audiobooks
3 kindle books
14 physical books

TheAromaofBooks Great list!! I really enjoyed The Cinderella Murder & that whole series - have you read any of the others? 5y
MaleficentBookDragon @TheAromaofBooks Oops! I thought it was the first one. I'll have to swap it out. 🤦 5y
TheAromaofBooks haha they do make a lot more sense if you read them in order (with some mystery series it doesn't seem to matter) since a lot of the characters come back. But I quite enjoyed them! The most recent one was published in 2018. Since MHC passed away, I wonder if Burke will write any more on her own, or just let the series rest? 5y
MaleficentBookDragon @TheAromaofBooks wow, I didn't realize she had died! I love her books. I see she died on my birthday. I will miss her and She Grafton's mysteries.😢 5y
TheAromaofBooks Oh no I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news!! I literally only knew because of people talking about it on Litsy - I'm terrible at staying up on current events lol Ironically, I've just started reading her books in the last couple of years, but every one that I've read so far has been fantastic! 5y

Found the tagged book at the laundromat yesterday and was stoked to add it to my TBR pile. Then, when I took the kids by the park to swing, we discovered a newly installed Little Free Library. I‘ve never actually seen one in person, and was so excited I ended up adding my new find to the collection. 😃 I didn‘t take anything from it this time, but we will see what‘s there next time. Maybe something with grab my fancy. (Cause I need more books. 😂)

SilversReviews This is a beautiful little library. 6y

Another solid book in the Sigma Force series. I️ just wish he‘d stray a bit from the formulaic storyline. There is a nice nuance in the development of the regular characters. But the crises and solution are predictable. But I love Rollins. So, a great read-meaning I couldn‘t put it down. 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5.

Didn‘t I say the librarian was going to be a hero? One team is looking for answers to this story‘s mysteries in the National Library of Estonia. It sounds amazing, doesn‘t it?

Bookzombie It does sound amazing! 7y

James Rollins always begins his Sigma Force novels with little known historical and scientific facts. This is from the beginning, his notes about the Historical Record. I️ ❤️❤️❤️ Rollins!!

We‘ve got a white Christmas.🎄Yay!!! Now, this book, what to say? Typical Sigma action and suspense. 💜💜💜 However, the main protagonists are straight out of a horror movie!!! I will never look at bees in the same way again

#TBRtemptation post 3! Just released. This is the 13th in the Sigma Force series. Off Brazil's coast, scientists find an island decimated by an unimaginable species. Only one scientist escapes. This threat is related to a cache of bones beneath the National Mall, placed by another set of scientists, led by Alexander Graham Bell. It holds the secret of life after death. A great force is poised to decimate the world. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

James Rollins delivers another pulse-pounding, action-packed, roller-coaster ride of a story in The Demon Crown. Once again, we‘re dropped down into the world of Sigma Force, and are carried along with the action as Gray and the team race against time to stop a deadly enemy from ending the world.
All I can say is...effing bees, man! I‘m still having bad dreams about this book!

Bookzombie I need to pick up one of his books. 7y
Booknerd2 @Bookzombie try and start at the beginning of the series. Definitely helps. 7y
Bookzombie @Booknerd2 Unless it happens by accident, I try very hard to start series at the beginning. 🤓 7y
