Hey Ladies!
Hey Ladies! | Michelle Markowitz, Caroline Moss
If you've ever been on the listserv for someone's bachelorette party, birthday party, or even a run-of-the-mill brunch among girlfriends, then the phrase "Hey Ladies" needs no explanation. In this book, based on their column of the same name from The Toast, Michelle Markowitzand Caroline Mossexplore the cliched and hilarious musings and conversations between a fictitious group of girlfriends living in and around New York City. Readers glimpse these exchanges through a series of emails, text chains, Snapchats, Slacks, and every other modern form of communication you can imagine. Hey Ladies!will follow these friends for one funny, obnoxious, snarky year. The book begins with the all-important planning of New Year's Eve, moving through to a loney hearts Valentine's Day, and right into spring activities. With a perfectly pitched sardonic tone, Hey Ladies!will have you cringing and laughing as you recognize your own friends, and even yourself.

Wow! Let me just say I loved this book! It made me laugh, cringe, and wonder if I would ever be friends with people like these. The book is told through emails and text messages between 8 friends over the course of a year, how things change between them and how some things will never change for them. I would highly recommended this book!

I can't believe I'm panning an epistolary novel, but I am. There's the bride, and then there's her alpha MoH. All about the bride and wedding. Didn't care if anyone had financial problems with any of the events, or in general. My favorite charger was Grace. Possibly followed by Morgan.

I added a fourth book to my #currentlyreading last night. I don't usually try anywhere near this many at once but I left Conversations With Friends at work. So, I had to read something and Clockwork Princess is dragging right now.
I'm just whipping through this book but these ladies keep making me groan, I nearly threw the book at one point.

Megabooks I wish I hadn‘t wasted a hoopla download on this one 6y
sarahs.thoughts.on.books I checked it out as a donation from a friend, she said it was hilarious. Maybe we find different things funny? Also, different parts of life? (I think she is early 30s. I'm late 30s) 6y

Capturing the time between Mean Girls and Desperate Housewives, I didn‘t like this like I thought I would when I first started reading but I stayed for the laughs, of which there were many. Despite this not being my kind of book, I rank it 4⭐️ for all the funnies.

Utter fluff! 🧠🍭 Ridiculous, OTT and I kinda mean that as a compliment!
Think snapchat/email-chain epistolary, if the ‘Vanderpump Rules‘ ladies were all A-types, lived in NYC, considered GOOP their Bible and planned a wedding for their Bridezilla bestie!
I could only take this satire in small doses, but when I picked it up, it never failed to make me laugh. Oh the cluelessness! 🤦‍♀️

These girls came into my life just when I needed them the most! I always hate giving negative reviews of books, especially when it has nothing to do with the writing style and is more personal opinion, but I hated this book. I didn‘t find it funny at all, and if anything it just stressed me out. Every character is an entitled, self-centered, & horrendous person. Everyone is fake and it hurts my heart to realize how many people are actually like this. I truly hope none of you have friends like this.

Bookcation74 @Librariana more good company! 6y

Librariana You're not alone in your opinion. I personally bailed after page 27 and it's nothing against the authors' writing style; the characters were just horrendous and annoying! As @Bookcation74 mentioned, we're keeping you company 😊 6y

Kaylamburson I hope you think differently about it @Mandigolightly and @bookandcat! So many people have loved it. Even all they were such great “friends” they were always bringing each other down and their whole lives were centered around what they could afford. 6y

Bailedbailed

I swear I have a sense of humor!
But this book was simply not for me 😕

I went into this thinking it was a nonfiction title... possibly a memoir... but was sorely disappointed when I began to notice a pattern with the characters (i.e. caricatures of lousy female stereotypes), figured out it was satire, and then noticed the spine label on this library loan.

Made it all the way to page 27 of 274 and then promptly abandoned it.

Bookcation74 It‘s so good to see that someone else bailed on this one too!! It actually made me uncomfortable how untrue the depiction of female friendship was... 6y
MarriedtoMrT I‘m bailing, too. I made it through January and that‘s all I could take. I understand what they were trying to do, I think, but all of those women were awful to each other! 6y
Librariana @Bookcation74 and @MarriedtoMrT - Oh, I am so glad to be in good company and not be alone on this! I saw that plenty of other Littens found it funny and I felt self-conscious having a strong difference of opinion, but it did make me uncomfortable to continue reading it. Any time I'd pick it up, I felt a sense of dread about continuing. I was tired of rolling my eyes! I really had hoped for something different 😔 6y
See All 9 Comments
Kaylamburson I can‘t believe I finished it. I should have bailed but I thought there would be some sort of redeeming quality at the end! I‘m so glad I‘m not alone!! 6y
Librariana @Kaylamburson - Good on you for sticking with it, though! You gave it a chance and I think that's very kind of you 😊💜📚 6y
SandyW I was touting with reading this as a palate cleanser at some point in the future, but I don't need to spend time with awful people, especially in print! Thanks. 6y
Kaylamburson Thanks, @Librariana. It‘s always hard since there are so many good books to waste time with ones you don‘t like, but at least it was quick! 6y
Librariana No problem, @SandyW. I would never discourage anyone from giving a book a try simply because I didn't care for it, but maybe I just don't have the right sense of humor for it. The characters were cliches, caricatures of stereotypes, and examples of just some of the worst traits in people. I got that it was satire, but when you find fictional characters to be insufferable, you bow out. 6y
Augustdana These characters are insufferable but I love it ????? Thanks for your review and your honesty! It‘s so weird to think about things we like and don‘t like. And WHY. Sorry I‘m just reading this book now and seeing your review. 6y

This is a light, fun story told entirely through email chains and group text messages between a group of friends over the course of a wild year.

It's not something I would usually read, but I was feeling a little burnt out on genre fiction, and this was a great read to change things up.
