Life just got a little sweeter in the island fishing village of Eastport, Maine. Jacobia Jake Tiptree and her best friend Ellie are opening a waterfront bake shop, The Chocolate Moose, where their tasty treats pair perfectly with the salty ocean breeze. But while Jake has moved on from fixing up houses, she still can't resist the urge to snoop into the occasional murder. Jake and Ellie have been through a lot together, from home repair to homicide investigation. So when they decide to open a chocolate-themed bakery, they figure itll be a piece of cake. With Ellies old family recipes luring in customers, they expect to make plenty of dough this Fourth of July weekend. Having family home for the holiday only sweetens the deal for Jakeuntil the ill wind of an early-season hurricane blows up her plans. When the storm hits, Jakes grown son Sam is stranded in a Boston bus station, and her husband Wade is stuck on a cargo ship. But as bitter as the storm is, something even more sinister is brewing in the kitchen of The Chocolate Moosewhere health inspector Matt Muldoon is found murdered. Ellie never made a secret of her distaste for Matt, who had been raining on their parade with bogus talk of health code violations. Now, with no alibi for the night of the murder, shes in a sticky situation with the policeand its up to Jake to catch the real killer and keep Ellie living in the land of the free. Includes a Recipe!

Tagged was an easy choice for worst read of July. I just didn‘t care about any of the characters or the drama manufactured by the MC.

The tagged is the first in the series but it‘s a spinoff series so I felt like I was missing a lot. I also didn‘t really care for any of the characters.

July in Christmas River was fun. Mayhem is book 2 in the Christmas River series and this is a series I‘ll continue.

julieclair Everyone seems to like the Christmas River books. I haven‘t read any yet. Too bad the cheesecake book was disappointing. 😕 4mo

Nope, nope, nope. I admit, my standards for cozy mysteries are not very high, but I cannot stand it when the drama is manufactured by the main character‘s own over the top bad decision making. It‘s a major pet peeve. 😑

The real mystery is why I read the whole thing.

This was a great book! A suspenseful mystery complicated enough to keep you guessing. Jake finds a dead man in her chocolate shop, the police suspect her partner Ellie. But they have 28 cheesecakes to make for July 4th with a hurricane approaching, her son is missing and her dad left the hospital on his own after a heart attack. Poignant family issues are mixed in. And don't forget the amazing chocolate! And sweet rescue dogs too. A must read!

This is really more of the beginning of a spinoff series than it is a brand-new series, because it follows characters established in Graves‘ other series, but it was still a pleasant read. Quick and easy, with lots of intrigue in a sleepy coastal town...and lots of chocolate. #deathbychocolatecherrycheesecake #sarahgraves

This is what my morning consists of so far; not too bad. (We did have to scold two guys for being loud af - where did these people learn library etiquette? - but it could definitely be worse!) Already an hour in, and about half a book left to finish by 5:00. I think I can do it. #deathbychocolatecherrycheesecake #sarahgraves

As we know, cozy mysteries are an addiction for me, especially when there‘s food involved. 😂 I also really love finding new series, so I‘m looking forward to this! (Plus, it‘s due tomorrow and someone has a hold on it, so I better get cracking.) #deathbychocolatecherrycheesecake #sarahgraves

Austen_Nerd Love the title I too, love a cozy mystery 7y
