Post-Birthday World | 
pickWhile reading this book, it fell into the most beautiful pool in Turks and Caicos. I wasn‘t certain at that point I even liked this book, as it seemed to ramble. I‘m glad I rescued it and finished it post drying. I do love her writing and these characters will live within me for a long time. Choices. And, timing is everything. 5🌟
I‘ve been working on this chunkster for a few weeks. It traveled to Turks and Caicos and was dropped in the pool. It‘s finally dry, so tomorrow I hope to finish it. Her writing is so good, and she‘s likely misunderstood by many. The characters in this book...brilliantly written.
pickI think this book needs a backlist bump.

pickTold in alternating, parallel-universe chapters that detail the main character‘s life (lives) after a decision point: Should she give in to the urge to kiss a friend at his birthday party – or not? From there, each chapter is split into two parts: what happens in her life if she gives in to temptation and kisses him, and what happens if she doesn‘t. I really liked this book—the writing is clever, intelligent, and witty.

I wanted to finish my book tonight but the DA on the Chris Watts case released almost 2k pages of documents from the investigation and I have spent hours reading them. 😖😬 Why do I do this to myself?! I am trying to wrap my head around how such a “normal” guy could be such a #psychopath.
Time to put my phone down and read ffs.

This is such a finely wrought book about the cross roads in a relationship and the decisions we make. I think the idea of a happy ending would be a #falsehope at this point. I‘m probably about 2/3 through and I‘m beginning to think that Irina is destined to be unhappy.

One night, Irina is playing snooker when a sexy man leans in behind her to adjust the angle of her cue. She can kiss him or choose for the safety of her a bit boring relationship.
In two storylines, the one Irina lives the peaceful, dull life, wondering ‘what if?‘, while the other makes a hurtful decision and suffers accordingly, but also gets the once in a lifetime highs and kicks. An amusing read.

pickIrina makes a choice; the story follows that choice, or the alternative had she not made it. I liked the way it was done; the slight differences or altered perspectives depending which story was being told. Yet there were also bits I hated - forays into politics, Britishness & a rant about the NHS. But the snooker! 🙄 Who‘d have thought I‘d get to the end of a book with this much snooker in it, of all things?!
I've started over I don't know how many times, and I still can't seem to retain what I hear. Even the basics - character names, setting - slide right down the sheer cliff face of awareness. It's a shame because, at 24hrs, it's ideal for tomorrow's long haul flight.
What are your favourite books to read on holiday? I need something not too taxing for an anxious animal brain that just can't process flight.
One of my favourite comfort movies is Sliding Doors. Lionel Shriver's tagged novel is based on a similar what if? premise. #Timeaftertime, the novel moves back and forth between two possibilities: what happens if Irina stays with her husband and what happens if she leaves him. Neither is clearly the right course.
I liked it when I read it but probably prefer watching pre-Goop Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors. #augustgrrrl @Cinfhen
46 years old today 😀 So grateful for my friends to be so thoughtful to surprise me with cake at the hospital. It wasn't lost on us that it'd be the last one my mom would be around for. And somehow when you realize that - it actually becomes the best birthday ever - because you appreciate it like you never have before.

Just finished the first chapter- which seems to set he premise... I'm excited. Sounds like it might be similar to the movie "sliding doors"- and I just realized this author, who also wrote "we need to talk about Kevin" is a woman. The name Lionel had me fooled. Anyway- I think I'm gonna like this one a lot!

pickWow... The premise of this book was so fascinating. For me, it sparked an intense reflection on the meaning of love, desire, comfort vs happiness, settling, and ultimately, how to face the consequences of the choices you make. Such a profoundly satisfying read.
